This song reminds me of those days when I used to wake up at 6a.m. to prepare for school. This song was always playing on VOK right after the national anthem, on National service radio.

Ain't that a trip...VOK first with colored lines and then the National Anthem, halafu hii ka-song, you had no choice...but discipline is all over the song, we didn't know then. And now, aiii, we appreciate those days. Discipline at it's finest!

    Artist: Maroon Commandos
    Song: Amka Kumekucha
    Language: Kiswahili
    uvivu ni adui mkubwa
    wa ujenzi wa taifa
    kwani nicho kiini hasa
    kisababishacho njaa
    ewe ndugu yangu wee
    amka kumekucha
    kamata jembe na panga
    twende shamba
    hata wewe mwanangu
    amka kumekucha
    kwani hizi ndizo saa
    za kwenda shule
    hata wewe Karani
    amka kumekucha
    kwani hizi ndizo saa
    za kwenda kazi
    uvivu ni adui mkubwa
    wa ujenzi wa taifa
    kwani nicho kiini hasa
    kisababishacho njaa
    ewe ndugu yangu wee
    amka kumekucha
    kamata jembe na panga
    twende shamba
    hata wewe mwanangu
    amka kumekucha
    kwani hizi ndizo saa
    za kwenda shule
    hata wewe Karani
    amka kumekucha
    kwani hizi ndizo saa

    za kwenda shule
    hata wewe Karani
    amka kumekucha
    kwani hizi ndizo saa
    za kwenda kazi
    uvivu ndio adui
    wa ujenzi wa taifa
    jiepushe na uvivu
    tujenge taifa
    ndugu yangu kumekucha
    amka twende shamba
    jiepushe na uvivu
    tujenge taifa
    mwanamke kumekucha
    amka uende shule
    elimu ndio msingi
    wa maendeleo
    Karani kumekucha
    amka uende kazi

This is the type music that exudes patriotism and builds a nation. Tell me anybody with such music today that transcends internal political differences and appeals to all who understand Swahili worldwide. Last time I checked there was only one number by Atomic jazz in TZ that had the same type of appeal though it was all about Raisi Nyerere and Tanzania

when kenyan artist made quality authentic music. the so called current Kenyan artist only know how to imitate American or Jamaican music then wonder why Kenyans prefer to listen to Tanzanian Nigerian and Congolese music.

Always best memories, nostalgic. These are the kind of landmark hits that our stations should be playing.
User to wake us up for school those days. My dad was an early riser, opened the small Phillips radio he still listens today, and the song reminded us it's time to get up for school, of course bare feet.
