  • Here I asked teachers with some experience of living in China for advice to those who want to come and work here. Every trip to another country is an adventure which can be even better if you know a few things in advance - forewarned is forearmed! Local and international teachers from different parts of the world share their thoughts.

I guess a couple of main questions that potential teachers ask is, am I good enough, and what grade in school will I be placed in? Are teachers in front of a class, talking eight hours a day, five days a week? As the BRICS countries unite and grow in number, the idea of becoming a teacher in China becomes more tempting.

What a parasite that has lasted after all these generations. This is 2024 so please consider your wide audience watching and talk about the reality of that too. It's funny how you didn't interview any chocolate people too 😅

Hi Aleksander, I’m 21, a native English speaker (from Australia) and I don’t have a bachelors degree, but I am able to get a z visa through the points system (I have a vocational skills certificate plus other requirements to pass the points system.) currently I’m doing my tefl Cert diploma which I’ve almost finished, and I’ve started looking for jobs online and on WeChat, I discussed that I don’t have a bachelors degree but I can get through the points system and recruiters from schools as well as agencies said it’s alright and it is correct that I’m able to get through the points system .
Based on your long teaching experience in China is it possible to get an English teacher job in China as a Native speaker without a bachelors degree?

@@starszsakuga I’ve never heard about points. If your experience in talking to recruiters shows you actually can get a z visa without a bachelor’s degree, then the answer to your question is yes in your case :) however, I’ve never met anyone with the same way to get a z visa.

@@starszsakuga one more thing is that even if it is actually possible to get a z visa without a bachelor’s degree, I doubt that recruiters will bother. It’s way easier to get a teacher who has a bachelor’s degree. Please let me know if you succeed!

@@aleksandrlukin565 i literally applied to 1 job on the Dave ESL cafe, and this is from a recruiter btw. As soon as I opened up with “im an Australian native speaker” they asked for my CV and self introduction video. I explained to the recruiter about the points system and I don’t have a bachelors and said that it’s okay. I even said I can’t apply now because I’m still finishing up tefl course and they have to wait and they said that it’s no problem
