wildest dreams is my favourite video. it’s beautiful! i never got the controversy because she’s making a movie in it like??? also after a pic of her grandmother came out it makes me kinda emotional thinking about how she wore the black wig like. she looked like her grandmother!!!

the wildest dreams controversy was people creating drama for the sake of it - if they knew anything about cinema history and what inspired the video, they wouldn't be out here saying it is "glorifying colonialism". totally agree that it's a beautiful video and deserves the most.

I mean let’s not act like those type of movies didn’t used to glorify colonialism. Even if these movies are part of cinema history doesn’t mean they weren’t problematic. “Wildest Dream” video is a masterpiece and doesn’t glorify colonialism, but a lot of those old white rom coms placed in Africa have a pro apartheid feel to them. She could’ve reference another type of genre like western or historical drama but whatever. My point is that there’s a valid reason for being against these types of movies, even if Taylor doesn’t deserve the hate from the mistakes these movies made, she could’ve reference any other film or film genre. Idk, just a POC point of view
the thing is she put that out with a fundraiser for saving wild animals. the reason she shot in Africa was to get the animals in her own habitat

Also Style is god tier for me! The faux home movie shots, the driving, the backless dress, the misty forest, the symbolism of the mirror shards--all incredible choices. The subtle sense of mystery is what makes it so compelling and so sexy. I was very meh on it in 2015 when the video first came out, but I've really come around on it; I think setting it in an obvious mansion would just turn it into Blank Space redux and Style is such a perfect song that it deserves its own unique visual identity.
The shade you threw on Delicate MV was personal for me. Agree with everything else more or less tho
The way I gasped when he put lover in mediocre. I don’t think it’s juvenile! I think it plays with an immature aesthetic, to illustrate the simplicity of her love. It’s back to basics, but in a new flourishing way.
I agree so much! Lover is my favorite album, just because of how dreamy and sweet it is!
I love that music video!
My personal fave will always have to be You Belong With Me because of the intense nostalgia I get from the video. I can just vividly remember being like 6 or 7 and having my dad pull out his like iphone 4 and pulling up the video and watching it as a family ugh what times.

The gold dress in Speak Now is the best dress she has ever worn at any of her concerts/tours and I will not hear any other opinion. It is absolutely iconic.
My fave video is IKYWT just because it's just so iconic and I remember being so shook when it came out and seeing the hair and outfit. It was so new and different for Taylor.

"Here's the truth from my red lips" and she doesn't have red lips. If you're complaining that they messed up her lip color, you're wrong I think. I think it was intentional. I think her saying "Here's the truth from my red lips" and her not having red lips implies that she's lying, it was intentional. Idk that's my perspective

Loved this! I was so excited to hear she was doing a song with Chris, I just wish it was more memorable than IBYTAM 😩 The hook of that song randomly lives rent free in my mind but… that’s the only part - and that’s fairly rare for TS and my brain haha

I was like a casual till about 2019 and it was maybe middle of lover era and I watched the Me video and i actually didn’t have that many strong feelings about it but I hadn’t seen a lot of her country stuff so mean/mine/ our song blew me away. When All too well short film was released everyone was talking about it and it was so fun like even my friends stepsister who doesn’t know I even like Taylor brought up how amazing it was randomly.
I don't know why but after all these videos I still hear "Taylor Swift Apologist" instead of "Taylor Swiftologist" in the intro orz

This is a good ranking, agree with just about all your takes. Probably my biggest disagreement would be Lover, which deserves better than forgettable IMO. But I liked the sound of something more stripped back for this mv too. Did you like the live performance of this at the 2019 AMAs, with just the piano and ballroom dancers?

When I think of Taylor music videos I think of four specific videos- Our Song, You Belong with Me, Bad Blood and YNTCD. The earlier vids bc I listened to all my music on CZcams until I was 10ish and the later vids mostly bc they were significant pop culture moments.

I was honestly so upset when I listened to wildest dreams on 1989 and it didn’t sound like the radio edit. The amount of times I used to listen to the radio when I went to bed and would wake up every time that song would come on is sickening
for me, a lot of videos aren’t great like wanegbt and everything has changed, but they are iconic

I Bet You Think About Me is the single most baffling thing she's done since the Lover era. Forgettable song, cringey lyrics, completely unnecessary video, Miles Teller. Blondie, why? The Very First Night was right there. SHE WAS RIGHT THERE.
My wish list for your videos: why Lover made Taylor Swift fans want to flee the country, best and worst award show looks, does Joe Alwyn actually exist, your top 5 artists besides Taylor, possible aesthetics Taylor could use in future eras, are Folklore and Evermore REALLY fictional (because I'm 99% sure she's still mostly writing about herself and tweaking things just enough to deflect attention away from her personal life).

I too feel like folklore/evermore are way more autobiographical than she will admit, and it really sparks interest about who she was potentially meeting for illicit affairs 😂 but seriously it's so smart she prefaced it with the whole 'non-autobiographical' disclaimer because I think it let her be the most honest she's ever been in her music. I truly hope she keeps it up, i much prefer it!

Lol you and I are 100% simpatico as it pertains to Lover hatred. It is seriously the ‘wine stain’ on the shirt she ‘can’t wear anymore’. Lover not only was such a jarring thing sonically, but somehow brought all the Karens into the fandom that we now have to deal with. Lover is the soundtrack that Karen listens to on the way to Marshalls to make a return and scream at the manager.
Omg the Lover music video was so awful. The song is so beautiful and it worked perfectly with the old home video projector in the attic aesthetic. I thought that would be what the mv was going to be like. What the hell was that rainbow house about? Ugh it physically hurt. And the salad dressing joke? I nearly puked.

I agree that the Delicate dance routine is really weird and awkward. The only impressive thing, for me, in that video is when Taylor slides off the hood of the car and gets into that perfect gymnastic pose ( sorry, I don't remember what it's called).
Dancing is not at all Taylor's strong suit and it shows every time she does it. She is a hard worker and rehearses her ass off for the tours and it looks fine on stage but she should avoid it always.
And she does avoid it actually.... apart from the small sassy dance routine in LWYMMD and a couple of steps here and there, I don't think there's any major dancing in any of the music videos. But with Delicate, she felt adventurous I guess.😂😂😂
I think the I Bet You Think About Me video is popular because: Blake Lively directed it, Taylor is frolicking around with kids and being cute, Taylor is wearing an absolutely stunning 'Wedding gown' AND the amount of Red with combination/contrast of White used in the video.... there, those are the things that made Swifties go gaga over it. Otherwise it's pointless.
With Lover, I basically like that song a lot. So, for me, its video is also dreamy and 'oh wow, so cute, adorable, awesome'.
But I agree with your opinion here, it's too much colour, brightness, naive and childish. I agree.
