I don't think any character in the Fire Emblem universe will ever garner as much dread as the Black Knight does whenever he shows up and his theme plays. His theme, in both versions, oozes menace, power and an air of authority that demands to be taken seriously; doing otherwise is done at your own peril. While the original version amps up the villainous air of the Black Knight, with far harsher drums and basslines from the brass, punctuated by almost choked-out endings to notes that create moments of silence filled by fear... this version almost seems melancholy, with the increased presence of the violins and the way that the brass is more subtle, especially with how they draw out their tones instead of cutting them short like in the original. It's a nice touch, reflecting the different visions that the producers of the two games had for the Black Knight... It's also interesting to see that this is reflective of Radiant Dawn's soundtrack and tone as a whole. In general, Radiant Dawn's tracks are far more focused on strings being the centerpieces of their songs, with underpinnings of subtle tragedies and backstories unknown, while Path of Radiance's soundtrack was far more straightforward, with the brass taking center stage in many prominent tracks reflecting a far more straightforward storyline, albeit with nuances that make it stand out. At least, that's my take on it. I don't know what was going through the minds of the composers when they made these tracks.
My exact thoughts, and his battle theme really hammers home the feeling his theme has, it really gives you the feeling that the Black Knight is invincible, that your attacks are futile, that your fighting an insurmountable wall that can and will hit back and way harder
They tried to make him like the Black Knight but when you can get killed by a level 7 15 year old your are not the same as the man who can kill everyone in your army.(I bet 50 000 dollars than he could kill everyone with his fists)
Yeah character-wise the Death Knight was pretty lacking. Gameplay-wise I like Death knight as an optional boss to certain levels that reward players with good items if you beat him.
man the black knight was such a great character. theyve yet to top him in terms if antagonists especially in terms of how menacing he is when he turns up on the field
