    Excellent review as always Aurora.
    Just one question though, is it possible to show how it compares to the xtool p1 in a separate video?.
    They seem to be filling the same market niche.

    Galvo’s cut at an angle as it gets further away from center. Also, with the extension connector attached, the head is so heavy that it is not level with the bed. I’ve had engravings that are uneven or skewed because of this.

  • @AndyboyH
    @AndyboyH Před 10 měsíci +1

    It might be worth noting in future videos for fixed head lasers that any cuts it make will have a non perpendicular edge due to the route of the laser from the fisheye lens?

    That is indeed a slick-looking machine. In general, laser engravers/cutters seem even farther behind the curve than 3D printers when it comes to adding form to function - not that that's a problem for avowed hobbyists, but it is something that can reel in new people that might be turned off by less-refined designs. Then again, that brings me to my next point: I wonder what warnings LaserPecker might include in the documentation regarding laser safety or what safety interlocks might exist on the machine itself when using it for hand-held engraving.
    We recently got a new toy at work, a laser-induced breakdown spectrometer, for checking the chemistry of purchased scrap or of our own castings that can't be tested for their composition by traditional means. This instrument has an internal camera that can detect when a sample isn't being held tight to the analysis window, and shuts the laser down to prevent stray laser light from being beamed out into the room if the window isn't covered...a nice feature, given that the instruction manual says that the ocular hazard distance (or whatever the term was from the manual I read a week ago) is a full 13 meters. It seems obvious that this engraver can pump many more watts than our handheld spectrometer can. If you're holding it and get a hand cramp or have to shift your stance or can't suppress an itch or someone bumps into you or there's a bear attack, are you just spraying everyone in the vicinity with eyeball-cooking laser power until you can fumble around enough to hit the off button? Also, is that touchscreen the only place where such buttons exist? If you have to take your eye off of where the laser beam is going to find the e-stop, that could be a bad thing.
    Anyway, great review! You two probably get this comment a lot, but you really do have some of the best, if not the best, review videos in the 3D printing, laser, and desktop CNC hobbyist market. You're thorough, honest, not afraid to make constructive criticisms when necessary, and offer great ideas for modifications and design upgrades for manufacturers and users alike. In fact, your SV06 review helped me eventually pull the trigger on getting an SV06 Plus two months ago. Thanks for setting the example that other channels can and should follow regarding trustworthy review practices.

    Great video! I am curious how realistic it is to hand hold a laser like this? Seems more dangerous than practical?

    • @andrewzimmer9161
      @andrewzimmer9161 Před 6 měsíci

      More dangerous than practical. I'm not aware of any cut-off. If you stumble, it's going to keep firing. It's also not just "not dropping it", it's "not moving even a fraction of a milimeter" if you want a tidy engraving.

  • @nigel8649

    In the last 2 months they raised the price to $1999 then put it on sale for $1699, still $100 more than it was without a sale. I keep looking at this because I want a portable unit but some of the cons you mentioned were already on my mind. The xTool F1 is more money and has a smaller usable surface. I want to be able to do glass, metals and acrylic. Please help me find a good alternative? Genmitsu Z3?

    This approach is faster than moving the entire laser head in theory, but when you then have to actually slow down to burn deep enough, you lose a lot of that benefit. How do the times compare to other 10w lasers? how much time do you actually save?
