As somebody who is considering getting a service dog and is currently majoring in education, it's very comforting to me to see that there are schools who know that a teacher can have a service dog without it being a distraction or a hinderance on the class, which I feel is the assumption, especially with young children. Keep on rockin Mr. Peets!
Watching all these videos on how dogs touch human lives brings tears to my eyes. They are lovely creatures and truly a gift from God. People should stop being cruel to animals.
I met a guy with a guide dog a few years ago who told me he once was spit on by a woman just because he politely asked her to call back her children who were literally all over his guide dog and pulling on his harness. I mean, how hard is it to understand that a guide dog is not a circus act or a toy for your kids but a life-saving tool for a blind man to safely navigate traffic etc.?
I raise puppies for a non profit guide dog organization and its amazing how many of our puppy raisers are school teachers. They have permission to have their pups in a pen in the front of the classroom everyday and the kids learn about service dogs and the puppy gets well socialized. Dogs are wonderful and so is this kindergarten teacher.
This inspired me to follow my dream to become a teacher. I have a Service Dog and I thought it wouldn't be possible for me to have a Service Dog as a teacher. Then I saw this, such inspiration. I'm now in my Junior year of college and on my way to become a teacher with a Service Dog. I hope this continues to inspire others that you can follow your dreams, even when you have disabilities and with a Service Dog. Thanks for telling this story. Be Safe Take Care.
tylr josph I plan on doing an update this weekend. I don't have the puppy yet waiting on conformation on successful breeding. Hope to have the in the next week.
They will be a complete human...many kids will have own dogs for sure...what a nice experience...God bless u , rex, school, parents, kids ...all !!! May in all over world we have inclusive life only...love to all

MR. PEETS & REX. THE REAL SUPERHEROES THAT WALK AMOUNT US EVERYDAY. I WISH I COULD BE A KID AGAIN AND BE IN HIS CLASS. I WOULD BE READING AND WHISPERING INTO REX'S EARS THE WHOLE DAY. I WOULD NEVER HAVE A BAD DAY. I WOULD MAKE SURE THAT MR. PEETS AND REX NEVER DO ALSO. SOMEONE HAS TO WATCH OUT FOR OUR SUPERHEROES TOO. REPORTING FOR DUTY.
This is great that he has his service dog in the class cause he can teach them don't touch service dogs and basic things like that , that alot of kids parent should teach them at a young age bit don't also with the reading is a great thing as well it also teach kids , that everyone different in but treat everyone the se :D
Me literally begging any organization to just give me a service dog for my epilepsy But every organization says I must have a seizure once a month yet I would go over my service dogs tasks every day if needed for them to get me one
You are going to have to train your own. Unless you are a veteran, you won't get a facility dog. You can even go to places like PetSmart for the obedience part. Then train the epilepsy response that you need and if you need help with the public access training, hire a private trainer for that part.
You should look at Therapy Dogs. no matter what, when a dog appears on campus, it's under the principal's discretion (unless it's a service dog). To be fair, Mr. Peets was teaching elementary kids, and if a real service dog showed up on your campus you probably wouldn't be able to even interact with it, since it's not a service dog's job to entertain others :)
I can hardly believe that 5 year olds are better at "do not pet" than most adults.
True
They’re used to Rex
well now really ive seen lots of kids run up to service dogs
Shut up kid. This is just a typical stupid comment to get likes
My daughter has a diabetic alert dog and adults are the worse at not petting the dog while he's working smh
This teacher seems to be a great human being. Look at the kindness in his eyes. And bless Rex ❤️

What a superb companionship. Kind and considerate owner and loveable willing canine friend. Also well behaved young people.
this reminded me of a program i heard about once where kids read to dogs. it's supposed to help build confidence and stuff.
