A friend of mine used to joke that I had a PhD in Grateful Deadology. But this is a true education. Listening Phil teach these kids is amazing. They are just soaking all this knowledge. Great stuff Phil.

First time I heard about the 12. Nailed the segue: COSMIC.
My favorite episode to date. Cool to hear the band talking through the key / chord / song changes and then go and do it. Especially noted the small grin on Phil's face when the change from 12 to 11 happens. That's always been a cool moment in that song for me, so it was neat to know that it's still a little magic moment for Phil, even after playing it thousands of times. Did I also notice that Phil does not use a pad or teleprompter for lyrics? Darn fine for 84!

This is a great example of things getting better with age. Granted, the skills of these players are far in excess of what was around in 1968 on the part of the Dead. This arrangement is really electric. All the players really cook. As an audiophile of SF in the 60s it's great to see the spirit so evident there and then now and here!

They have the sound so dialed in for that space, it’s great! Closest I’ve heard to early 70s Dead tapes.

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing the discussion throughout the video. I think it helps understand such discussions take place with any band that want’s to take things to the next level. Along the same lines of China Cat originally in E, I think Help>Slip, was originally in Em and performed once (possibly twice). I need to dig the recording up.

Any chance more DeadCo guests will stop by? It would be nice to see John come back after all these years now that he knows the material. Originally when he attended the Terrapin venue, it was brief and a warmup for him but nothing like he plays now. It would be nice to see that other guy drop in; the one that plays rhythm guitar. LOL, kidding. Bobby of course. And maybe add some gym equipment to the clubhouse so everyone can workout with Bob, before a jam session.
Again, a Fog machine and colorful lighting would be nice. It could be fun to also have a clubhouse cat walk around during the Jams.
