I have a Cat 303CR and it has been my experience that when ever I have lost a track it happens again a couple of times soon after. My theory is that there is air pockets in the track tensioner. Whenever I hear a clunking sound that sounds like a rock in the sprocket I become very cautious and assume it is the track coming off again. I immediately reverse direction slowly and keep the machine as level as possible, it seems to keep me out of trouble. Turning on a slope in soft dirt is were I got into the most problems with my excavator.

This is the first excavator I've owned and I'm learning what situations I will lose the track. I also do the "ear" test myself and listen if I hear something happening to the track I will stop and check. I've started making my tracks a lot tighter and been having better luck keeping them on.

Hey. Just stumbled upon your video. I know it is too late know, but in case you weren't told when purchasing the new drive, it is supposed to be half filled it gear oil. Look a bit too dry even if you drained it before taking the lid off.

Yes the old drive was leaking and wouldn't hold any oil which is why I got the new drive motor. I checked the new drive when I got it and was at the correct oil level. Thanks for the comment!

I find putting a 4x4 or a plank under the track helps with the slack when putting it back on. Just my opinion

Yeah that's a good idea! I really needed something to give me slack on the track. I fought with it way too long!

What size of bolts did you use to plug the hydraulic lines?

Can't remember, I just remember I bought a bunch of fine thread bolts

how much was your drive motor?
how many hours do you have on your excavator

Think it was around 1,800$ for the drive motor. Around 3200hrs
