I think listening and speaking are the keys to be fluent in any language. It's suck that I' m man of few words, sometime even struggle to express myself in Chinese
The sequence of objects. English speakers have better short term memory. For instance, this computer instructions:
"Click underline in the format group that is in the main tab."
Most Asian language would say this in the time sequence of users' actions.

Lots of ppl use English words and phrases they learned from textbooks. They should learn colloquial English.

小時候移民去加拿大的時候，因為我兩個弟弟先去4～5年了，我晚了4~5年才去，
記得有一天去海灘附近玩，然後他們問我要不要吃熱狗，
因為我不會講英文，他們就先進去幫我點，點好了之後要我去進拿，
結果我在裡面待了5分鐘以上了還沒出來，因為我都找不到番茄醬.....
兩個就進來找我，問我再幹嘛？怎這麼久？？？
我：找不到番茄醬啊？ 盒子都黑色的，馬的（怒！？）～英文沒有半個T開頭的，不知道哪個是番茄醬 ？？？ (在台灣番茄醬一定有這個字)，加拿大沒有＝.＝+
兩個弟弟：丟臉啦～這個啦～ K開頭的 Ketchup = 番茄醬
從那一天起一次我就永遠記起來 XDDD
真的要學英文不只要臉皮厚，有環境更能加分，丟臉一次真的就會了。
然後後來認識美國人朋友，發現美國人不會在意你的文法，只會在意你的「發音」
Do you、Are You 傻傻分不清楚，亂用我記得當時沒什麼再糾正我，有一次我拿臺灣的孔雀餅乾給她吃，我指著孔雀說告訴她說 「批卡」

文法真的沒有特別學，感覺在生活中常常講，後來自然就知道怎麼說（可以說是算是被洗腦嗎 XD）
20年前我還帶快譯通在澳洲夜店撩妹!!!!!
台灣教育就是真的把英文當考試工具使用,幸好我小時候有去兒童美語補習班學習英文奠定我對英文的好感,但是我到國中時期才發現不是每個人都有對英文有好感,我還記得班上有個女同學的英文完全沒基礎,被教英文的女老師(台灣人)罵到哭出來,那位女老師的眼神就感覺出來"妳這學生如果考差了就是害到我"的感覺,我想那女同學從此以後就對外語完全沒興趣了,學語言是樂趣也是文化的理解和延伸,但是台灣完全扼殺了學語言的樂趣
我英文很差，但我認識一票定居台灣10~30年以上的美國人，多數是中文不錯到精通，十多年前 他們就告訴過我，他們發現只有台灣人會恥笑及歧視台灣人的英文不好，他們匪夷所思!! 在他們外國人心裡根本不在意英文好不好，重點在溝通、在個性。
不......香港也有同樣的,有時候想模仿正確的美式/英式口音還會被人家笑,即使那是正確的發音......
我同意你说的，虽然英语在世界各地都很普遍的能溝通。但相大部分的游客都不会埋怨我去到这地方玩，你这地方的人都必须会英语。而当地的人会受身边朋友们影响取笑英语不标准，而令你缺乏自信在别人面前说英语。我相信人与人相处不在于语言不通，而是大家彼此有没有用心去了解对方的文化。

這個影片應該要發送給全台灣英文老師讓他們上課時撥放給學生看 以老外的觀點來看台灣人說英文 太重要了
还有大陆的会议口译也用太多大词和长句，以我在美国生活和在大公司及大学工作的经历，感觉普通人真的没有必要搞这些花活儿，😄😂。就有一次我跟法学院的朋友聊天，他们说，其实你很适合做上庭的那种律师，讲话的词汇习惯可以把人唬到，就觉得你是个厉害的狠角色，😂！后来就会慢慢注意，跟人聊天多用高中词汇😂
確實在大學和外生交流的時候，會發現其實你只要讓對方聽懂就好，文法什麼的倒是其次...一直在意文法反而會讓對方聽的很頭痛

但他們在台灣沒有義務要使用英語，反之，他們該使用華語！

我總認為英文的"讀寫"跟"聽說".完全是兩回事! 我在想在台灣就算是英語系畢業的人.能夠流暢溝通的應該也不多! 在台灣如果是英文口語非常流利的人.大部分都有出國或留學的經驗.如果有一個人.他的英文聽說讀寫都很流利但說他沒出過國.都是在台灣完全靠自學跟苦讀.若然...那會讓我相當佩服! ps.妳老公真的很優秀!
就我個人來說沒差多少以流利程度而言，但有出國的經驗英語認識的程度有相當的差異。多補充一點不是課本上的一般口語用法和流行用語反而比較有助於溝通。
我一個出過國的堂哥就比較能講英文

I practice english listening by watching a lots of FRIENDS!!! Seriously, it helped a lot!!! And for english speaking, since I have to work with foreigners, I will have to speak to them all the time, and in my opinion as long as you can understand each other its fine, unless you have to write business email then you will have to be correct and formal, otherwise just take it easy and be brave, although you dont speak perfect english, no one is gonna mock you for that, usually the one who mock you is your own fellow countryman.

做為一個也是鄉下長大，後來也學了半吊子的人。建議在考試中成長的各位，高中畢業之後想要自己的英文更進步，卻沒有英語朋友的人，最簡單的辦法是閱讀。閱讀不能增加口說能力，但是你也沒有多少機會說。然而多閱讀可以增進知識量，和單字量。最後會讓你需要中翻英說英文或寫email 的時候，快速找到對的專門字(term)。
找自己最有興趣的領域，開始閱讀。運動比賽、歷史地理、股票投資、社會百態、國際政治、醫學保健各方面。是的，差不多是新聞分類。但是不止於看報紙。

家中有三種語言的我（中韓英），我自己的經驗是，若要讓小孩學雙語（或多語），最好的方式是父母各自使用一種語言，而不要混著講。小孩子自己會分辨出爸爸的語言和媽媽的語言，溝通上就會比較專注。

不會啊 混著講就跟新加坡人一樣多元 效果不會比較差 也不用怕小孩會搞混 就算搞混也只是過渡性
@@egemix894 新加坡人除了上年紀老一輩，其他人絕大部分日常是完全不會用華語溝通的，只是歌會聽華語歌。
@@JC-yj5xn 要看喔 像我那時候在那邊是念特選小學 有念高級華文的 大概就一半一半 但面對一般人確實會切成幾乎全英文夾雜台語跟華文模式
我也有聽過這個說法，父母各講一種語言，不要混著講

Big fan of yours, Elizabeth!! Always amazed at your Mandarin ability on the WTO show! I noticed one huge cultural difference between expats living in Taiwan and HongKong is that in Taiwan, if you wanted to blend in with the locals, you just gotta make a strong effort to learn at least some basic Mandarin. In HK however, foreigners are just so spoiled and they would never think about learning Cantonese ever!

真的 學一個語言不適用來應付考試 這是真的 一個精通多國語言的人部會說我考幾分幾分 而會說我可以用哪國語言教你.... 語言最終目的是用來交流的
Watching tons of TV in the categories you interested in, sitcoms and talk shows really helped in terms of listening, cultural background, and even vocabularies that are useful when having conversations with English speaker.
Yes!!!! Just like what Eric was saying, listen listen listen!! I really like when people are able to learn from things like tv shows, because it’s a fun and relaxing way to learn! It helps people to relax and have fun with a new language!

所以我覺得不是不會講英文，而是沒自信把自己的想法表達出來。

There is another platform such as talking to native English speakers at English Free Talk at Carpenter's House (木匠的家）in Zhongli District, Taoyuan City. Tuesday through Friday 7:30 pm.
Now the activity has been officially banned due to the pandemic, so that is the action must be taken. 😁
I moved to US when I was 9. I took some after school English in Taiwan for a bit, but it wasn't that great. I don't recall having too much difficulty understanding teachers after moving here though. I think it was easier because it was forth/fifth grade, the environment was easier.

I had a similar experience encountering with foreigners when I was a teenager. It was about Christmas time. You can imagine how good my English could be, but they were really nice just like you said. When they said your English is good, I honestly knew it was not true. 🤣🤣🤣

The society that I grew up is much the same as Eric's. It was hard to find someone to talk to in English, even at this time. To think in English is the later step that you would use, we all have to learn for a few years to catch a lot of vocabularies, grammar rules,etc.
The key point that I turn the way into thinking in English was the time after I had watched many American episodes. , then, I started making sentences in my brain without mandarin. I care about the mistakes only because I want to correct them, so that I will be able to master this language as soon as possible. This is really crucial.
