Yeah, when I was a kid and first saw this movie that was the highlight of the film for me too. To see someone's head blown off was kinda cool. But it all reality this is a great film and really depicts the way battles were fought back then and highlights a dark chapter in American History, the Civil War.
It is amazing the vast numbers of men who went into battle that way. Pretty old tactics. Kinda like suicide, almost like 1 man made no difference but 20,000 did.
@Bluenoser1954 This is the 1860's, and this is how it was done. Throughout the war, our tactics changed from basically Napoleonic to the trench warfare you find in WWII, but simply put, it takes time and experience to figure that out, this battle is part of that experience.
This is such a good movie! I watched it in my history calss becasue we are learnign about Robert Sahw, we werent allowed to watch the beginning scence though
Do you want us to just sit back and be invaded?? What the hell would we do that for?! We have to stand for what we believe in, to fight for what we believe in!!!
This movie doesn't "cast a dark shadow" over The South, this movie is about Col. Shaw and his 54th Regiment. They were of course part of the Union Amry. It depicts them, making the C.S.A look like the enemy. Cuz theey were. But the ending when the Rebs bury Shaw with his fallen men, is based on actuality, man.
Those who start wars are the ones you should be ranting about. The people who fight wars for America which stands for peace and freedom are to be thanked. The Civil War was fought to keep this nation together. If we didn't fight that war we would have been a totally different nation today. I don't think that there was a way for the Civil War to be avoided forever.
The Effective Radius of a Muzzle-Loader was 160 Yards. If they charged, seeing as they were more than 150 yards away, they would be tired by the time they reached the Confederate Line.
The Confederacy won? In every single history book I've seen or history documentary, it always said the battle was either inconclusive as to the victor or the Union won the battle. The scene we just saw was the Cornfield, one of many locations fought at Antietam Creek where the Confederacy won, but the battle was also being taken place on locations such as the "Sunken Road," "Bloody Lane," etc.
The Emancipation Proclamation meant that the Union was going to put down the rebels at all costs and to end slavery, however at the starting of the Civil War this was not true because Lincoln said that he was fighting to keep the Union together and was not to free slaves. When the common people of France and Britian heard about the Unions new goal they sided with the Union. Hence, cutting off foreign aid to the Confederacy.
ok here.. good quality but could you number your videos? I want to watch the whole thing... and the reason it hasnt been posted on is because no one has really watched glory. I watched some of it is but soo far it was good.
I wasn't just speaking about the war in Iraq. If there is a war going on, then there is a threat that we will be invaded. Do you want to defend yourself, freedom, peace, and your family? Or would you rather just give all of that up?
@bookkeeper57 Yup, but when you say it was the last of his kind, you forgot the french-Prussian war (1870-1871). It was more a curstomp battle, but still,.. : charge of the french cavalry against gatling and modern prussian cannon... battle of Reischoffen... it was not a walk in the park anyway.
4:11 i think he killed somewon... stating that theyr not all has mercifull has the one who woke him up and let him go... but idk maybe he whas just being sure that he doesnt get up and shoot them or something else not sure
ragglefraggle your right. I'm done with arguing. djhives I hope that someday we will all live in a world where peace is a common thing among everbody and war will be a thing of the past. For now we will just have to wait how this war in Iraq affects everybody.
Wow, every Civil War Movie should be as brutal as this on. This war was pretty bad, I was reading on it and I read something about "Facial Wounds"...... (cringes)
You know, not all of the 54th was black. There were white officers and white platoons. True, only like a garrison of 200 Confederate troops died in Ft. Wagner. The Union Army lost much, much more. But only 40% of the 45th were casualities. Not half. They lived to fight another day....but check it, that one blonde guy, Shaw's friend and Major, survives the entire battle AND war! He retires after.
those werent soldiers. Now towards the end the South had just started to consider using real black soldiers infact I believe General Lee was a big supporter of it but the south was over by that time
i'm guessing your from the south? and may i add that if the south had won. we might still have slaves. or atleast have slaves for many more years than we did.
I also watched this in my AP History class. It was a good movie.
one of the best war movies ever

I was on that film shoot, and a fragment of the fake head was a much coveted souvenir.

That's the way that is was back then.
this movie was amazing! but i saw it in school in 8th grade. i was pretty much scarred for life. hahaha

I'm sure you would only feel it for a spilt second. O_O

Well, if I am fighting for freedom and peace then at least I died for something.
if the union had just one tank they could have owned the world
ragglefraggle09 knows what he is talking about. If you don't like standing up for freedom and peace then why are you here?

I wasn't just speaking about the war in Iraq. If there is a war going on, then there is a threat that we will be invaded. Do you want to defend yourself, freedom, peace, and your family? Or would you rather just give all of that up?

@THEARB1TER10 Yes it would have changed back then cause there was no country known as Germany back in the 1860's

i'm guessing your from the south?
and may i add that if the south had won. we might still have slaves. or atleast have slaves for many more years than we did.
