Interpretation of Music: Lessons for Life
with Benjamin Zander
Dave Jamrog Audio/Video
I like this woman’s clarinet playing and musicianship a lot.
It is sad to go through life without music. Mr. Zander makes this so clear. Dina, like all piano accompaniers, plays such important role even though she occupies such modest position in the back. The students... are so lucky to have him and her!
I play bassoon, so sitting next to clarinet players all the time in orchestra has given me a picky ear for clarinet sounds. I must say this sound is one of the most soothing, comforting sounds I've heard from a clarinet. That tasteful hint of vibrato helped too...
This piece came directly from the heavens. Soul crushingly beautiful.
That woman! Dina Vainstein! She is absolutely marvellous.
Benjamin Zander gave her freedom, what great lesson of life.
Robert Jones Show me where Mr. Zander touched you.
@@robertjones2221 excuse me...?
A lecturing teacher who contributes nothing new to improve her clarinet playing just “ You got it ! “ and only praising the pianist. Compare Martin Frost’s detailed masterclass
@@robertjones2221 you are right I was fooled and could not see it. thank you for correcting me on that comment. God bless you
@@edwarddesenne6153 Benjamin Zander isn't a clarinetist unlike Frost
He has so much enthusiasm! I love him :D
Wouldn't Benjamin make a great next Doctor ? And his TARDIS could have a Mozart theme - It would be splendid!
I don't know, but Benjamin Zander looks like the paintings of Hayden... so I think Hayden is a vampire, and Hayden is actually Zander.
Or Hayden in reincarnation.
Bravo maestro Benjamin Zander! Bravo Luz Elena Sarmiento! Bravo Dina Vainshtein! It was a real lesson for Life! Mozart would be very happy with you all!
Such a LEGEND! Thank you Mr Zander
This videos are always so great, so educational! Thank you so much for helping all of us improve our understanding and appreciation of music!
Love this bloke.
Magnifique son , félicitations Luz Elena 👌👍
So beautifully played.
She's great. Beautiful sound and control.
I love this piece so much.
Oh my gosh that is so beautiful 💕☺️👌🏻👏🏻
He is a legend
Wonderful and inspiring!
Beautiful playing - God bless you - Bill - UK
Congratulazioni, davvero una stupenda interpretazione
This sounded a little rushed to me. However she has a very nice tone and overall expression. I love this concerto, thanks for uploading :)
Hell of a player!
Lacking the necessary "messa di voce" on the first bits which is mostly adapted to the clarinet technic and carachter. Dearest Mr. Zander there are MANY period books about these "simple" yet fondamental rules of phrasing. Mozart becomes romantic usually when he is played based on the baroque language. This is why he is so fugitive and hard to interprate. I humbly believe some interpretations need a very simple and basical knowledge about this language: the rubati, the relations between bass and melody, messa di voce, vibrato as an ornament, intervals in dance style versus expressive style and mostly the art of the appoggiatura, the most basical and essential melodic tension there is...ecc. Love your lessons and humanity! Thank you
Il's fantastic!I love it.good sound .👍
What do you mean playing Mozart in the 'Baroque language'? Why go backwards in time? Surely he should be played in the Classical, if not Romantic, language.
this guys knows his music ! bravo !
Understand the historical context of the clarinet concerto please. When did Mozart write this? Without this understanding, you'll always play it out of context, and hence, incorrect.
The piece was one of the last pieces Mozart wrote before he passed. At the time, he was already feeling quite ill. He probably knew he wouldn't have much time left in his life. Imagine Mozart reminiscing the days when he was younger, when he would always attend Friday night dances with women. Yes the piece is about a dance, but it ISN'T a dance. It's a distant memory, which includes Mozart remembering his elegant dances. So it should not be taken as fast in my humble opinion.
The ending of the piece is much sadder than what you would think. The whole movement is filled with long lyrical lines, but it changes to incomplete ideas. As if Mozart realizes... yes I used to have those nice dances with women, but I won't have them anymore. It's a thing of the past. Now I'll prepare to peacefully meet my end...
It's a nice interpretation of the composer's thoughts, but I think you put way too much emphasis on images and feelings that you can't know for sure Mozart ever felt or saw.
Maybe he simply composed music, and did not let himself be influenced by his personal life or "the pain he might have had reminiscing his life".
You should respect someone else's point of view, even if you're convinced about the well foundation or your own.
And have a nice day. :)
Exactly. And you can't make an opinion humble simply by using that most tired phrase, either.
I'd have thought trying to impute Mozart's intentions concerning this composition would be, at best, speculative. Yours is an interesting interpretation, but I daren't say it's conclusive.
Mozart wrote a complete opera, La Clemenza di Tito, k621 immediately before the clarinet concerto, there was no hint of ‘tiredness ‘ in the opera. The proposition that Mozart “knew” he was soon to die is a retrospective romantic construct. The final movement of the concerto is joyful and sprightly it’s not valedictory.
Mozart was just writing a very good piece for his friend Stadtler, the clarinet player. There is not a hint of weariness in the music.
Bravo CZcams c’est le morceau que je travaille
As a person who is not classically trained and just appreciates music, I can’t for the life of me tell the difference between each time she plays. Maybe I have to hear 1000 people try out like that guy before I am tell the difference.
I had to listen to it twice too... and probably will a 3rd time.
But the difference was in the tempo and accents on her phrasing.
She was originally playing a bit faster tempo than the pianist and she wasn't holding the long notes out as long... she was shortening them.
This is really polishing... way she was doing it was enjoyable. But this brings it up to an even better level as it pairs both her and the accompaniment styles both in phrasing and tempo; the mesh better.
un son magnifique!
Omg I have the students same ligature!!!!!
+Madi Ghor This should be under a tumblr post called "Things only clarinetists get excited about." haha!
YESS
Well, you will never catch me playing this concerto for Mr. Zander. I don't see why we can not be expressive without pushing it forward into the 19th C. It is Mozart after all, not Weber or Schubert. Love it without romancing it please. Luz, very nice and Dina - Call a tuner next time and not one of those Equal Temperament Technicians but a real tuner; then your playing will sparkle.
You are right. Music from Mozart's time is without feeling.
I wonder what reed she is using!! I am having a hard time finding the perfect reed for this piece.
try another mouthpiece?
The piano sounds either flat ir sharp compared to the clarinet , but it still sounds nice
April Ludgate ??!
Spero che esista l'aldilà e che sia questo
Everything was not bad exept the tempo, after all this was an Adagio.
And also at the same time the maestro could raise comments about nuances at the very beginning and the culmination area of the piece etc.
In general it was all good but
I still feel the two musicians ( the clarinet and the accompanist ) would play good weather the interprator was there or not. I could not see that much the impact of his opinion exept his hand gesture .
Sorry for being bold,
Ah...Meryl...
Please Stop touching her. Stand BACK. give her some space
Yes, one can see her stepping away from him, only for him to move in again. it's super annoying.
Мне жутко нравится, как она играет.
Are you serious. I think I'm getting an upset stomach. Anyone have some Pepto Bismol?
Stop invading her personal space! You can tell she's uncomfortable
Is that the largest clarinet ever made, or is the soloist 4 feet tall?
Not a Bb Clarinet, friend. Concerto in ___ !
This is not a regular clarinet
It’s a basset clarinet clarinet in a
Brave ᚺᚩᛒᛒᛁᛏ it is most definitely not a basset. Although Mozart did write the piece for basset. It’s a buffet rc (or r13) prestige A clarinet.
Anthony Flanders I know that I can tell the difference by a larger clarinet is usually basset clarinet. I wasn’t specifically talking about this clarinet
The piano is off with itself...
Sorry but .. it is not Mozart...
What the hell are you talking about?
You don't know what Mozart is theb
This is just a commercial show. This girl simply don't need this guy for THIS music...
For you is not...it is envy.
Commercial show... WTF LOL
That reed is way too heavy for her! It should never be a 2" x 4". That hissing sound coming out from the mpc area is one consequence, while her bulging veins is another!
I can play Better than her.
