    It is sad to go through life without music. Mr. Zander makes this so clear. Dina, like all piano accompaniers, plays such important role even though she occupies such modest position in the back. The students... are so lucky to have him and her!

    I play bassoon, so sitting next to clarinet players all the time in orchestra has given me a picky ear for clarinet sounds. I must say this sound is one of the most soothing, comforting sounds I've heard from a clarinet. That tasteful hint of vibrato helped too...

    Lacking the necessary "messa di voce" on the first bits which is mostly adapted to the clarinet technic and carachter. Dearest Mr. Zander there are MANY period books about these "simple" yet fondamental rules of phrasing. Mozart becomes romantic usually when he is played based on the baroque language. This is why he is so fugitive and hard to interprate. I humbly believe some interpretations need a very simple and basical knowledge about this language: the rubati, the relations between bass and melody, messa di voce, vibrato as an ornament, intervals in dance style versus expressive style and mostly the art of the appoggiatura, the most basical and essential melodic tension there is...ecc. Love your lessons and humanity! Thank you

    Understand the historical context of the clarinet concerto please. When did Mozart write this? Without this understanding, you'll always play it out of context, and hence, incorrect.
    The piece was one of the last pieces Mozart wrote before he passed. At the time, he was already feeling quite ill. He probably knew he wouldn't have much time left in his life. Imagine Mozart reminiscing the days when he was younger, when he would always attend Friday night dances with women. Yes the piece is about a dance, but it ISN'T a dance. It's a distant memory, which includes Mozart remembering his elegant dances. So it should not be taken as fast in my humble opinion.
    The ending of the piece is much sadder than what you would think. The whole movement is filled with long lyrical lines, but it changes to incomplete ideas. As if Mozart realizes... yes I used to have those nice dances with women, but I won't have them anymore. It's a thing of the past. Now I'll prepare to peacefully meet my end...

    • @Barde_Jaune
      @Barde_Jaune Před 6 lety +18

      It's a nice interpretation of the composer's thoughts, but I think you put way too much emphasis on images and feelings that you can't know for sure Mozart ever felt or saw.
      Maybe he simply composed music, and did not let himself be influenced by his personal life or "the pain he might have had reminiscing his life".
      You should respect someone else's point of view, even if you're convinced about the well foundation or your own.
      And have a nice day. :)

    • @andrewjenkinson8948
      @andrewjenkinson8948 Před 5 lety +1

      I'd have thought trying to impute Mozart's intentions concerning this composition would be, at best, speculative. Yours is an interesting interpretation, but I daren't say it's conclusive.

    • @russellbaston974
      @russellbaston974 Před 5 lety +3

      Mozart wrote a complete opera, La Clemenza di Tito, k621 immediately before the clarinet concerto, there was no hint of ‘tiredness ‘ in the opera. The proposition that Mozart “knew” he was soon to die is a retrospective romantic construct. The final movement of the concerto is joyful and sprightly it’s not valedictory.

    • @frankstein9982
      @frankstein9982 Před rokem

      Mozart was just writing a very good piece for his friend Stadtler, the clarinet player. There is not a hint of weariness in the music.

    • @jmitterii2
      @jmitterii2 Před 4 lety

      I had to listen to it twice too... and probably will a 3rd time.
      But the difference was in the tempo and accents on her phrasing.
      She was originally playing a bit faster tempo than the pianist and she wasn't holding the long notes out as long... she was shortening them.
      This is really polishing... way she was doing it was enjoyable. But this brings it up to an even better level as it pairs both her and the accompaniment styles both in phrasing and tempo; the mesh better.

    Well, you will never catch me playing this concerto for Mr. Zander. I don't see why we can not be expressive without pushing it forward into the 19th C. It is Mozart after all, not Weber or Schubert. Love it without romancing it please. Luz, very nice and Dina - Call a tuner next time and not one of those Equal Temperament Technicians but a real tuner; then your playing will sparkle.

    Everything was not bad exept the tempo, after all this was an Adagio.
    And also at the same time the maestro could raise comments about nuances at the very beginning and the culmination area of the piece etc.
    In general it was all good but
    I still feel the two musicians ( the clarinet and the accompanist ) would play good weather the interprator was there or not. I could not see that much the impact of his opinion exept his hand gesture .
    Sorry for being bold,
