  • Take a drive with us in our 1939 Packard 120 club coupe. 839 miles to Carmel and back, the car performed flawlessly and was a lot of fun! The car turned 82 the day after we got back

    Love your car. My wife and I always wanted a 1939 Parkard 120 Convertible. I have been on this road many times and it is always a fun ride. My son just bought a new Dodge Challenger Scat Pack 392 Wide Body. He, his twin and I took it from Monterey to Morro Bay about two weeks ago.. First time I've done it at warp speed. We stopped and took a lot of pictures and videos. One going through the tunnel you went through as well as crossing the Bixby Bridge. I see you stopped at Madonna Inn. My wife and I frequent the restaurant. It is one of our favorites.

    To see this car brings back such great memories. My dad had a car exactly like this, except it was blue in color. This car mechanically was unbelievably reliable, and drove like a dream. I called it a "mobster car" because it sat so high. My dad was a Packard man, and if they were around today, I would own them as well. He had a few Packard's in his life. My dad bought his 1939 in the year 1959, from a banker, who only drove it 10,000 miles in 20 years. He lived in Long beach, California and just walked from his apartment to work. He was getting rid of the car, because the landlord was upping the rent $25.00 a month to keep the garage--how about that. My Dad paid $500.00 for the car, and the old guy, gave him a "New Willard Battery" those cars were 6 volt. He said he didn't want it to fail to start, when he picked it up. It had the original factory tires, which wore out quickly due to the 20 years of age. The car ran perfectly, the whole time he owned it. My favorite thing to do, was to wait down the road about 3 blocks, from the house and wait for my dad to come home from work. When he turned the corner, he stopped and I jumped on the running board, and hung onto the door for the quick ride home, the wind and ride felt awesome. This was a daily driver for my Dad. We also took vacation in it--exceeding a 1000 miles--it never let us down. As we all know in the late 50's Packard went out of business. My Dad was concerned about parts, and in the later 60's sold the car again for $500.00. I cried like a baby--I was so crazy about that car. But the great memories will always remain riding in the car. It was my favorite car of all time and still is.

    What a beautiful car. I'm glad you like to drive it. You look happy. I've taken my '53 Clipper DeLuxe from Sonoma County to Eureka and back, and to the Gold Country and back. Old cars are meant to be enjoyed.

    Loved it! You guys have a beautiful love child that you're not afraid to drive. I won't have anything that I won't drive (unless it's broken down in the back yard!)

    Beautiful car, beautiful. I also own a Packard, though mine is a 1955 Clipper Constellation. I am very familiar with the 1939 120 -- a friend of mine in Staunton, VA owns a 120 convertible sedan. That car drives like a dream and I love riding in it. You are doing the right thing by driving your car. You find the kinks and fix them and you're back on the road. I love driving my '55 and regularly go on Packard tours. The oldest one I've ever ridden in is a 1920 Twin Six (V-12) roadster. That car is a real hoot! I am going to send this to a few of mine friends in the Old Dominion Packard Club. They will really enjoy it. Also, it is very satisfying to see a young man like you behind the wheel of this excellent. You need to convince all of your friends to go out and buy a Packard. After all, any Packard will get better gas mileage than a Tesla, right?!!

    I don't know if they are still running tours round Napier in New Zealand in a 1939 Packard 110, but I did get the opportunity to experience a tour in 2014.

    A bystander hearing but not seeing you coming in the fog then you appear foglights ablaze and vanish again - - - only you knew it was real.

    Does your Packard have Overdrive?
    On 'decent' roads, at what speed do you cruise?

    • @russellharmon5693
      @russellharmon5693  Před 9 měsíci

      It does have an overdrive, on the freeway it will cruise comfortably 65-70 mph
