    Nice way to explain it to newbies. I almost posted a few criticisms since I am a long-time veteran of the series from all the way back to the original Train Fever back in 2014. I didn't because I realized this is a newbie video so you would be keeping it simple. Great Job.

    a bit of an exploit, but know that steelmills will accept 400 iron and 400 coal at any time, even when they're not producing steel... so what I do is find two steelmills and link up iron to one, coal to the other... close distance, with carts... and the two I connect with a roalline... this line will have a steady volume of coal in one and iron in the other direction, about 200... full trains in two directions... then add coal to the first from closer by and iron to the other and the volume will become a mix of iron and coal of about 400 in both directions... if you add a third steel mill and connect the second to the third, and link up closeby iron and coal to that one too, there will be 530 in both directions on both the connector line from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3... each coal mine wants to send 133 to each steel mill...

    Each video I watch I get to learn something new. What I like about your video is that you take a nice, steady approach. Being patient is certainly a virtue and can be difference between success and failure. If I could only I could live by those principles in real life!!! Thanks for sharing your perspective.

    Nice video but it would be more efficient in this situation to have the trains fully focus on getting the grain to the processing facility and have the truck pick the food up there and get it to the city.
    Because all the gondolas are empty half the way and the box cars are empty half the way as well. So basically your trains are running empty half the way with this setup as well so why not take more grain the longer way which makes you more money and then have the „trucks“ make a longer drive

    • @MerfWorks
      @MerfWorks  Před 3 lety +1

      If I understand what you mean, you are suggesting that the train only have gondolas and focus on transporting nothing but grain one way. In that case, the entire train is empty for half the trip. How is that more cost effective?

      @@MerfWorks yeah thats what im saying. If u look at it a bit more carefully you will see that the box cars you added to make the train runs with cargo more often actually makes it run with cargo less often. Because the box cars you use to make it bring back the food to only run empty for 1/4 of the way are empty for 3/4 of the way. While the gondolas are only empty for 2/4 of the way. So the box cars only carry anything 1/4 of the entire time and the rest of the time they are running empty. You could do all gondolas and accept that in this situation its not really possible to avoid running empty and maximise what u can do. And for me it looks like it would be more effective to have everything only carrying goods half the time then taking some of the 50% effective away to add something thats only used 25% of the way.
      If thats a mistake in my way of thinking please correct me.
      And im not saying its wrong to take something back its good but only really if the goods you can take back fit in the same „trailers“ (sorry english is not my main language and im missing the right word)
      For example oil. Everything fits inside tanks so you can use it to bring the crude oil to the refinery and the oil back. Eventhough the train will be running back half empty because of the ratio of 2 crude oil to 1 oil.

      Dont know if i specifically mentioned it but the box car is running empty from the farm to the city then empty from the city to the processing plant and again from the city to the farm while the gondolas is only running empty from the processing plant to the city and then from the city to the farm.
      Thats all i wanted to say sorry for turning into a whole book there😅

      @@MerfWorks love your videos far better then most other CZcamsrs i found so far playing this game. Not wasting viewers time by allways showing everything even if nothing happens. Not wasting anyones time by being indecisive for 30 mins straight and builidng something for 30 million dollars and afterwards start thinking about if you really want to do that.
      And since you try to help people that have problems with the game i feel like u deserve to get some tips back to improve your game

    Great video, nice to see another view.
    One thing I do query - why the need for trucks in Colorado Springs? Didn't the train station provide enough cover for the food required in town? It seems like having that extra service is something of a money sink. I may have missed something though, so please feel free to correct me! 😁

      I may have over done it with truck stops, but I believe some sort of truck line was necessary. Thank you for watching the video!

    Nice video. However: by not using a 2:1 ratio of gondolas to box cars are you not ALMOST dead heading your train from the Food Factory back to the Grain Farm? You are loosing lots of revenue by not hauling the food to Colorado Springs. There is a mod called Grain in Boxcars which solves this problem. In real life, the railroads never hauled grain in open gondola cars. They always hauled it in Boxcars.

    • @MerfWorks
      @MerfWorks  Před 3 lety +4

      Originally I thought as you did that the 2:1 ratio was the best way to go. No deadheading. A viewer commented that by going all gondolas, the gondolas are travelling empty 50% of the trip whereas in the other way the boxcars are travelling empty 75% of the trip and the gondolas are travelling empty 50%. So that viewer thought it would be more profitable to carry 100% grain in one direction, deadhead back, and deliver the grain to Colorado Springs by truck. In addition, I too thought there would be more profit in delivering the grain back to Colorado Springs most of the way by train. I always thought deadheading was a big no no in this game. But I thought I would give the viewer's suggestion a try. I try to keep an open mind and learn from others. I guess time will tell if I should have left things alone. Thank you for the tip on the mod Grain in Boxcars. I didn't know there was such a mod. That mod would have more easily increased profitability without changing the line and train. It's always a good day when I learn something new! I apologize for the long answer.

    Is there some reason that your episodes are reversed in the playlist? It makes watching them in order kind of difficult when they go from newest to oldest.

    • @MerfWorks
      @MerfWorks  Před 2 lety

      Interesting, no one has ever commented on this before. Based on your suggestion, I have reversed the order on the playlists. The only downside I can foresee is that on the page itself only 12 videos will be immediately visible. I believe you would have to click on "Playlists" at the top of the page in order to access the entire playlist. Anyway, I have made the change. Hope this helps. Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos!

    • @Skiggles
      @Skiggles Před 2 lety

      @@MerfWorks You might want to consider removing the videos from the playlist that are not numbered episodes. For example, you have a few videos that are more like tips and tricks videos while your numbered episodes seem to be more of a "let's play" which is what I was after when I discovered your channel. The change that you made helped a lot and personally I do click on playlists when viewing a channels page and I'm sure others do as well. I hope that you continue to create content like this and I am enjoying the videos very much.

    Need to be more careful placing things like track and depots. The rail depot cost over $21k but you only got a refund of $16k even though you "hadn't used it".
