  • Here's a video of the end of Union Pacific Riverside local. This is the last run to Riverside California by Union Pacific and This job now handed to BNSF(San Jacinto local) in Riverside, California. (I believe it's still running by UP in Colton street running section including Wig Wag RR crossing in Colton, CA.)
    FYI, Once UP Riverside Branch was a Pacific Electric trolley/Southern Pacific/UP line from Corona - Riverside to Colton - Rialto, CA.

    Snuffy, GREAT rail video here! I don't know how I missed it when you posted it oh so long ago, but a truly wonderful video of a very historic event. Uncelebrated, no fanfare, there it went, into the history books! THANK YOU so much for capturing it on video, and sharing it with the world!

    The SANJAC is based out of San Berdoo. And all of the searchlight signals are gone, check out my video of the construction in December, look for Riverside Diamond Construction Project Update. Also Metrolink put in what looks to be a PBX repeater at the northeastern corner of the old diamond.

    Great video. I think I was the first person to take video of BNSF on that spur, way back in November, but since they gave me a ride I can't post it... Great video!

    Since your video, they took out the 215 overpass so South on this line from Barton Rd, nothing but track. No industries have spurs any more. BNSF catches everything South of Main St.

    I guess we can blame the black cat for having this local come to an end, because as the theory says black cats are bad luck and seems like it did so for the Riverside Local. Glad you were able to get her on her last trip while it lasted. Nice catch Snuffy

    I just happened to visit that UP-BNSF diamond last April before they started the work out there. It's incredible that it was still protected by four H1 Searchlight Signals! Did any survive the track changes there? Also, is the San Jacinto local based out of Barstow or San Bernardino?

    When did the BNSF officially take the branch over? Where do they connect? I take it they use UP trackage rights to get to the branch, since the only place the lines cross is at the SANJAC. Is the street running in Colton still active? Thanks!

    The railroad company excavated the street running track within a short period of time after this video was shot, ( near M Street in Colton, California). A fly-over was built near the Interstate 10 Freeway and ended the existence of a historic
    railroad diamond, there. The diamond was put in place in 1883. The so-called "Colton Crossing" was a point of contention at that time with citizens of San Bernardino and Colton ready to fight for their respective town's interests over railroad company right-of-way. Southern Pacific Railroad hired
    famous lawman, VIRGIL EARP, to protect its interests during that stand-off.

  • @FullertonRailproductionsTM

    Most of the P.E tracks that were operated by UP after p.e was not in service is now owned by Bnsf sadly which it’s pretty stupid of UP. And a major grab for BNSF. The LOA36R use to serve Cargill the oil Plant but not anymore because it’s hard down to BNSF la mirada

    Nice piece of history unfortunately ending. Street running is probaly what made it's demise. People today can't coexist with a train on their street because they are such stupid drivers.

    Are trains required to blow there horns constantly. I've seen video's where there basically in the middle of nowhere but yet still blast there horns. was just wondering if this was a railroad rule.

    • @MP34.9
      @MP34.9 Před 10 lety +2

      It is a rule unless its a quiet zone.

    • @mapexmac
      @mapexmac Před 9 lety +1

      Not just "anywhere" actually, but at EVERY grade crossing (where a road for vehicular traffic of any kind cross the RR tracks); UNLESS - as Texas Railfan accurately said - that specific grade crossing or area is deemed a "Quiet Zone".
      It's a Federal Rail Administration requirement to sound the horn in a specific horn sequence, before and up to the actual crossing of the road which crosses the RR tracks.

    • @MP34.9
      @MP34.9 Před 9 lety +1

      mapexmac Yep. it is an FRA rule that ALL trains MUST blow theyre horn at ANY grade crossing including private roads/driveways. Signals or not. Only with the exception of a QZ. If and ONLY if it is a QZ.... The engineer MUST have the air/e bell ringing throughout the crossing(s).

      Not any more. Tracks removed down to Congress street. Below that there are 3 longish storage tracks that were part of the line and the tracks into the Cascade Lumber distribution yard, but they are now accessed via a new track that loops around Cascade to connect to the BNSF. Also, the tracks across the river and down to where they used to cross the San Jac are all torn out, including the trestle over I-215..
