I just binge watched all 18 episodes of Good Doctor for 12 hours straight and I found myself sobbing almost every episode. I lost two of my teen sisters (17 and 13 year old) and my father in 3 consecutive years because of poverty and lack of adequate health care from the country where I live and I can’t help but think that they could still have been with us if we had the same kind of doctors and hospitals. And now with my only remaining sister (the identical twin of the 13 year old who died) and myself also having health issues, I live in fear everyday, not so much for myself but for my sister and my mother who’s endured so much.
I'm so sorry for what you've been through. Thank you for sharing your story it's a pretty vulnerable and difficult thing to talk about I would imagine. I just wanted to say that your story really moved me and inspired me.
Haby 2611 you’re right. I can only actually talk about it inconspicuously. My mother and I have not even talked about it since it all happened. The worse thing about it was everything happened while I was miles away, studying and working so hard to get us a better a life. Now that things are getting better for me financially, they’re no longer around to enjoy the kind of life I always dreamt for them. It cripples me most of the time but I still have my remaining sister to look after.
I'm truly sorry for what has happened to you and your family and I think it's really brave of you to share it on here. I just want to say if you ever need to talk (I know a lot of people say that, but maybe coming from a stranger it's easier to talk to them about your feelings sometimes) just know I'm here, my mom is dealing with a pretty serious health issue and I know it's hard to talk about it. Dm me if you want, but if you don't feel comfortable with it, that's completely fine. Wish you and your sister all the best!

I am incredibly impressed at his acting abilities! However, in the series I find the Good Doctor character is creepy.

As an autistic person, I find Shawn to be a fairly reasonable (if slightly exaggerated for tv) portrayal of an autistic adult. At the bare minimum, his traits are far more consistent than most portrayals of autistic individuals tend to be. His stims, his lack of eye contact, the unique pacing and pitching of his voice, his social issues... All of them remain consistent from episode to episode. The episode where he was in a store being robbed was a perfect example of the problems autistic people face: "put your hands where I can see them" and "give me your wallet" are contradictory statements. Trying to obey two mutually exclusive commands at the same time when already stressed by disruptions to set routines is something that many people with autism would react poorly to.
I'm curious to know: what exactly is it about Shawn that you find "creepy"? The lack of eye contact? The interpersonal missteps? His stimming? An answer would be greatly appreciated - it could go a long way to helping me understand why people seem so averse to interacting with people like me.
