Steve Hackett teaches Francis Dunnery and Brett Kull the chords to the Genesis song "Cuckoo Cocoon" in rehearsals for the CKDCF charity concert in Cumbria, 2012.
I think it's totally cool for the master giving of their time to educate the pupils of something life-enriching; information that they can carry on with them to the ends of the earth. Well done, Steve!
sturoc0 Actually, it was great watching regardless whether or not those two guys were big guitar players. Until I read your reply, I thought they were the roadies.
So weird hearing him swear lol, I would love to have him teach me how to play, not only because he's arguably the greatest guitarist alive but also because he seems so gentle.
Banks, Rutherford and Collins were quite stupid to let Steve go. They managed to survive and thrive artistically without Gabriel, but this was one important element that was indispensable.
Amen to that!!! My wife and I saw the Steve Hackett Foxtrot at Fifty and Hackett Solo Highlights in October 2023. Steve Hackett and Band were magnificent. They performed various Hackett solo material, the WHOLE of the Foxtrot album, Firth of Fifth and Los Endos/Slogans absolutely flawless. My wife said to me at one point when Steve was playing and his ethereal, perfect guitar sound was ringing so beautifully on “The Steppes”…..”why did Genesis ever let that guy go?!” So true! When you hear the Genesis music Steve Hackett was involved with, hear Genesis after Steve’s departure and hear Steve Hackett’s solo work he really took a lot with him…..that unexpected chord change, chord progression, haunting melodies and a LOT of the odd time signatures were from Steve Hackett’s mind and soul. And as you can see in this video Steve is so patient and low key while teaching the chord progressions to these guys on “Cuckoo Cucoon”. It makes one “musically shutter” to think what might have transpired artistically if Steve had taken the lift offered by Phil on the way to the studio mixing “Seconds Out”. Steve Hackett…..what genius and classy person.
What could they do about it? It was a Hackett decision and They did respect! I’ve heard Phil Collins try to convince him, but He was determined to have his own musical career. That’s life! ✌️

Ha ha, no WAY !! I must have sat for a solid week trying to learn this tune from the album, back in the late 70's. If only I'd realised at the time it was a slightly different tuning, it would have saved many, many frustrating hours..and it never sounding "right" !
It's just appalling that neither musicians nor music teachers ( I mean the most respected ones) don't know the difference between a chord and a chord voicing. Every individual in this world would find learning music incredibly easy if this one thing was fixed. But it's hopeless. People love tribalism and hate logic too much.
@@luizfelipels7 A chord voicing is simply a matter of which note you place as the root - first inversion: the 3rd; second inversion: the 5th. These choices are dependent on what chord follows or precedes, the idea being to create the smoothest movement between any two chords. However, this becomes a bit more complex with slash chords, where, for example, in the case of C/D, you play a C triad with a D in the bass. It’s the same principle.
Dunnery looks as happy as a child with a new toy! This is so beautiful to see!!
Steve creation just normal , he just try to play with a God the Creator of The Foubtain of Salmacis czcams.com/video/j5fGTSKURyY/video.html
I can confirm I was the same learning this tune.
Francis Dunnery singing like Peter Gabriel, awesome man! :D
it's like drinking from the source
If I was in front of Steve Hackett with a guitar on my hands I would probably be paralised
ditto Francis. A truly great player also.
Not to mention having an incident of incontinence
Me too
Steve has been a guest on my radio show four times now .he's really truly an amazing musician
but always so kind and humble
Indeed an outstanding scene …… i couldn’t play even one note not even singing in such great way trying to reach peter‘s performance in voice 🤪
The chord sequence on this one is stunningly beautiful
My favourite tune from The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway. I was probably the happiest guy in the audience. Thank you so much Steve! :)
Two of my favourite guitarists playing "Cuckoo Cocoon" ? Crikey it's too much !
With the amazing, Francis Dunnery, there’s some talent there ❤️
I think it's totally cool for the master giving of their time to educate the pupils of something life-enriching; information that they can carry on with them to the ends of the earth. Well done, Steve!
Dunnery, Kull and Hackett!!!
Brings tears to my eyes!
Steve is truly a wizard.
And so is Frank. Two guitar mega heroes, for me.
I just had an out of body experience and I was in the presence of the light.
Epic!
Francis auditioning for Steve's band. There's all the enthusiasm there is. Would make a dream team.
Great to see Francis with steve both great guitarist and of course Francis loves steve and genesis stuff nice one lads should do a tour together 👍
This video made me happy and I don't even know why :)
Same here :D
Because it's 2 giant, yet down to earth guitar players teaching one another a fine song and having a good time doing it !
sturoc0 Actually, it was great watching regardless whether or not those two guys were big guitar players. Until I read your reply, I thought they were the roadies.
sturoc0: That's exactly the reason! Unbelievable that FD is so curious and acts like a learning child.
Becouse you like Genesis!
Nessuno raggiungerà mai più le vette artistiche che i Genesis hanno raggiunto. Grandiosi!
Parole sante!
Nessuno come loro🤩😍🤗
Per me la miglior band dell’universo
very colourful chords - incredible stuff
I wish I could get him to sit down with me and he'd teach me the musical box. What a dream that'd be. It looks like he'd be a great teacher too.
My God
Apparently Rutherford's guitar tuning on that song was unusual, and he no longer remembers it!
Even just the mention of it gives me shivers.
Francis sings very like Gabriel. Great man!
Great song, great chord sequence.
legends !
One of my faves from lamb
"Chamber of 32 Doors" has become my runaway favorite in recent years. Strange, because I used to HATE it. And then, one day, I just "got it".
What a great guy!
which one lol!
This next bit, fuck knows what happens lol Hackett and Dunnery talking chords . Heaven.
Hermosos.....solo el arte nos puede salvar.
I wish I could be part of that jam session.
It makes me happy too....
Way too much guitar talent in one room!!! Tiny mind blown!
So weird hearing him swear lol, I would love to have him teach me how to play, not only because he's arguably the greatest guitarist alive but also because he seems so gentle.
Absolutely brilliant!!
the exitement over this one chord on 1:04 ... i totally get that xD
As a chords and harmony freak I totally relate to that..

When you see The Master Hackett Teaches
Metamorpheus Album of Steve Hackett , Brain Album
Frankie doesn't mind if the chords don't mother him, he got it all worked out.
WOW! Can you imagine being shown 1 to 1 how to play a Genesis song. ps: Where's the Tab / Chord Chat Frankie !? ;O)
1:43 ...Steve

I watch this video every now and then! Is that Dave Kerzner on backing vocals near the end? :)
Shit man get Dunnery on vocals and tour The Lamb!
quand on regarde un maitre et l on veut surtout apprendre , comment as tu composé ca pour Genesis Steve
when you do, upload some tabs or tutorial. thanks
A lesson from SH, nice
Francis and Genesis go back a bit .
Hard to figure out those chords. :)
I know it sounds weird. But I am so surprised how Steve's guitar intro sounds exactly like the album version. As if nothing changed after 30 years.
SHOW...
And to think Genesis chose Ray Wilson instead of Francis. {wth} ??
wow the brain teaches

sturoc0 htf do u know it’s cold??
@@Eleventhearlofmars Well dickhead , if the jackets hats everyone (including crew ) are wearing dont give you a clue then I cant help you.
So if you play 'Cuckoo Cocoon' wrong, you end up playing 'Dust In The Wind'?

That guy in the middle is insanely annoying.
