Enjoyed the content. We have a group of GS riders down here in Tampa FL. and are finally going out to ride mostly dirt trips. Florida has a bad sugar sand - so the big bikes are at a bit of a disadvantage. I picked up a Tenere 700 and use it for the rides in Sand. But now going back to the GS to relearn the skills on a bigger bike. I will check back and follow your trip.
Come on KTM man, you gotta share the excitement that bike delivers! It feels like a big dirt bike! 150hp. Excellent standing position. Advanced bosch cornering abs/tc. The bike rips. It's raw fun. Power wheelies into 3rd gear. :-). - 14 1190 S muddy/dirty every weekend.
@@Captndarty when you ride the bike to work on the highway 3-4 days a week and travel hours to ride somewhere. its a necessity. nobody wants to get beat up by wind for hours.
Interesting discussion about the telelever front suspension. Coming from sport bikes, wouldn’t that feel unnatural while out on a track? I expect the front to dive and have to gently apply throttle, to not upset the chassis and let the bike dig in as we power out through corner. Just grabbed a ‘24 Super Tenere ES and would love to get it out for a track day. Thanks for the video, the action shots and the discussion. Keep up the great work.
Hey, thank you for giving me a off road perspective on th Gs. Im a 40y old child with almost 20y experience of squiding with italian and japanese pocketrockets. I love my GS, i put a mivv exhaust without db killer on it just for the fun. Love the beast and prob the best roadqueen bike for me as i do about 20k km a year on my bikes. Hope 2 break the 200k km in 2 years with my GS
Great vid! I can totally relate to what you are saying. Went from a 990 to a SuperT and now looking for a GSA. What's your take on buying a used 2009/2010 GSA. Should I be really careful? I am kind of afraid of getting into a big and expensive trouble...
Check out our review video on Alex's 2011 R1200 GS! That give's you a more in depth review. Cody has a 2008. They were almost identical besides the suspension and exhaust valving. He has had 5 trouble free years with his!
Regarding the Super Tenere: I had the stock suspension resprung and revalved for my weight and riding style. Huge improvement, especially off-road. Cheaper than aftermarket shocks too. I feel like it’s the forgotten adventure bike, and can be the best value if you find a good used one. Super reliable. Mine has 53,000 miles. I’ve changed tires, fluids, and fork seals.
Nice little channel you got there. I currently have a 2019 Africa Twin, and I'm looking at a new leftover 2021 Super Tenere ES. In terms of comfort, would you say the ST ES suspensions are on par with the 1200GS on rough paved roads? Thanks!
Thanks! I now have an Africa Twin and HAD the Super Tenere. The ST is definitely more comfortable on road. The AT wins hands down off-road. I would not put the ST on par with the suspension on a GS for carving twisties. Hope that helps! Just curious: why are you wanting to go from the AT to the ST?
@@bfeadventures Pros for the Africa Twin: - Decent comfort - Excellent engine, power wheelies in 2nd gear - Not a lightweight by any means but lighter than the ST - Looks good - Sounds great with an exhaust - Its a blast on dirt/gravel roads Cons: - Suspensions are good but not as comfortable as the ST - Didn't come stock with tubeless wheels - Not the best wind protection - No cruise control - Maintenance schedule is something you would expect from a Ducati...and a valve job on the Africa is quoted 8h at the dealer. Pros for the ST: - Cruise control - Better wind protection - More comfortable - Tubeless wheels - Electronic suspensions - Overall better road bike - Much lower maintenance and easier to work on (valves every 42000km instead of every 24000km on the africa twin) and my mechanic who has worked on yamahas for 25 years doesnt even recommend checking them before 60000km... - Drive shaft - Bike is a tank, it's remained basically unchanged since 2010 - Overall a better 2 up tourer Cons: -its a heavy pig and not the best looking or most modern bike :) - The stock exhaust sounds like a lawn mower - Engine is not the most exciting (though I've read some were able to extract as much as 20hp from it with an exhaust and ECU flash) So the main advantage is long distance touring capabilities, comfort and less maintenance
@@Speedytrip you hit the nail on the head. That ECU flash is a gamechanger for the ST. Otherwise, I could not have given a better synopsis even owning both! The ST will fell like a tourer compared to the AT for sure.
I sold the Super Tenere before picking up the BMW. However, since our experience on the bike was still fresh, we decided to include the commentary on it in comparison to the others. Enjoy!

It’s easy to put in the word that you don’t put a garbage ass windshield like that on a beast of an off-road bike like that.

Great point! They are often left out of comparison. Let's hope Yamaha refreshes them to compete with the big boys again! I miss my S10!

I hated my super tenere so much. Awful off-road and insane wind buffet on road no matter what windshield I used.
