However, I'd have liked a better sense of legato and I longed to hear him caress the notes and taked more time over them in this incredibly beauiful Strauss creation. (The score is marked Slow, sustained...) He has the potential to make much more of this piece. I felt it was a tad too academic a rendition; it calls for greater commitment to the text. I don't speak German but I'm familar with the language. I suspect he needs to work on his diction, it didn't sound all that German to my ear but I'd be interested to learn what the experts say in this connection.
