As another CZcamsr I want to thank you for doing this video. I know how much time it takes to set up, film, then edit. I just ordered the oktava, I think it sounds great.
It was a test that is very important with these mics and I don’t see many people doing it. It really is a disservice to the viewer if you don’t get as many “applicable” tests. Thanks for checking out the video!

I feel if you just want one of them then go with the AT. But it could give you issues inside if the acoustics are reflexive. What’s your main use for the mic?
I was waiting for that comparison for such a long time :D I'm amazed oktava has more low end with hypercardioic capsule in comparison to audio technica. I'm using at875r and my voice is really bassy with it. Well octava with hypercardioic capsule is my favourite but I'm surprised how much better at875r was outside
Outstanding video! Currently I have Oktava MK-012 cardioid in an untreated room I'd like to use for youtube (out of frame). Oktava is not very sensitive and I have to crank up the volume in Scarlett 2i2 and I'm getting a bit of background hiss that requires noise reduction in post. What is your opinion on Sennheiser MKE600? I've heard it has great audio and is much more sensitive. Should I consider replacing Okava with MKE600?
It might not be the mic, it could be the preamps. Even with the MKE600, I think you'll still get hiss because the gain will be pushed. I've only used the 600 a couple of times and it was just ok from what I remember. The Scarlett 2i2 has a gain cap at 56db, which is ok but with less sensitive mics/budget mics (Meaning anything under $500usd) you can run into preamp hiss. You want to looks for something offering 65+ db gain. That will allow you plenty of headroom to avoid the hiss. That being said a Mic activator, for condensers, is another option but you can almost get a new interface for that price. I know Midas Preamps are good. There are some interfaces with them. I had to translate this, but i Just want to clarify. Are you asking which one you would like to have "in" frame or "out" of frame? Once I know that I need to know the environment you are recording in. How treated the room is or is it outside?
In my experience the Oktava is more sensitive. But I will say the 875R is more vercitial, where it can be used outside and the Oktava probably wouldnt do as well.
@@RebelTech1990 that's quite strange. The spec sheet says the AT875R has a sensitivity of 31mV/Pa while the oktava 10mV/Pa which is quite of a difference I think should be noticeable..
@@RebelTech1990 I am ify on that one. I have a sennheiser e614 and it's anything but sensitive. The sensitivity spec is 2.7mV and it reflects in reality. I have to boost my gain in reaper by 20db. But yeah most sdc are sensitive and have a flat response. Thanks

Shotgun is generally better for outside and the pencil microphone is generally better for inside.

I detected a low end rumble on the Oktava in all tests which I thought was surprising and also off putting.
Which is more sensitive? Which did you have to boost a lot more in post?

Small diaphragm mics are naturally more sensitive but as far as gain I don't remember how much i put into them but it was closer than the specs say
