Gotta say, Pekora might not be the best at playing Pokemon but she does the damn best at *roleplaying* it.
She made a freaking epic out of it- raising the stakes with a permadeath run, agonizing over the tragedy of losing mons, giving a small pep talk & struggling with her ragtag group of mons at the Champion battle, the revival arc for the fallen at the end and THEN on the very next day, having the thumbnail be her reunited with the fallen mons. That shit's 10/10 storytelling
Honestly, every single playthrough I've seen from Holo has been so unique and fun in the way you describe.
Ina had her team of food stuff with some epic moments, Kiara beating Cynthia via revive abuse of all things so fitting for her character, Calli and her chuuni nuzlocke rapper team, etc.
And Ive seen a bit from JP and ID to see that all of them have unique things too.
Its really interesting to see for a game which is pretty simple and straightforward

After watching Calli's Nuzlocke playthrough, I can see the distinct difference between chat offering you good advice (to Calli) and bad advice (to Pekora). Every death that Calli suffered was her own poor choices, Pekora however I can only imagine was intentionally misled.
In defense of Calli, half of her deaths were Ghost Malone X3, and she only finally lost Ghost Malone because she (and most of the chat) thought it still had Levitate.
Most people don't know that they changed Gengar's ability in Gen 7, and Calli didn't get much time to find out since she had just evolved it
@@nathannguyen934 I certainly don't count the two first Ghost Malone deaths because they were intentionally replaced. But most of her deaths besides those were due to complacency, BF Doof's death being a great example, also she barely survived her fight with the final four and Cynthia, if NotoriousGIB hadn't cheated death twice using the power of friendship, she probably would have been completely out of Pokemon eligible to Knock out Cynthia's Garchomp in one hit. She very easily could have suffered a whole team wipe because of that mistake.
I don't think she, Pekora, was intentionally mislead, though I'm sure some tried. It's seems to look like she was counting on the Pokémon being able to take more damage than they could or not knowing the types of certain enemy Pokémon and then using the wrong types against it. Still it's nice to see Pekora so caring. :)

Well since she can't change her pokemon, and have to defeat another elite 4 and cynthia, it will be bad if she only have 5 pokemon.
@@ton4323 Pretty sure she's not playing "true" Nuzlocke with the first-catch rule, or at least she doesn't adhere to it strictly from what I've seen. The term she uses in her stream title is closer to "hardcore mode" or "single-life".
@@Justic_ Well when I was looking up the term "人生縛り" I found a Japanese discussion where someone explained it's the same as "Mori-san's Nuzlocke Lite", which I somehow didn't realise at that time meant Calliope lol. But yea.

this brings back all my anxieties playing pokemon 20 years ago.....
That final team was kinda stacked. Jirachi, Luxray, Golem, Houndoom, Roserade and Gyarados? Look at Pekora making a good team in her first Nuzlocke. Gamer energy. And only 8 lost is pretty great for a first Nuzlocke.
The typing is quite bad, actually.
But her gyarados pulled off miracle and managed to survive.
That one clutch is the difference between life and death since her other pokemon (luxray, houndoom, golem, jirachi) will probably defeated by gastrodon or one-shotted by Garchomp & Roselia got surprise death from Milotic ice beam.
For real, thousands people definitely sweating profusely when gyarados almost dead.
@@altairlion Which is why, in my opinion, the friendship aspect of the recent games was a good addition, since really makes nuzlockes more interesting since it adds that possibility of clutch/miraculous moments that just add more “immersion” as you reap the care you put into raising your team.
@@cyberdragoon1432 Even so, that still won't stop the uneasiness for sceptical people like me. Going against Cynthia with that team is extremely bad for your heart, especially after watching Shion "almost" got obliterated by Cynthia's Garchomp.
Her final team pretty much only consisted of gyarados
Jirachi barely did anything and died, luxray barely did anything, roserade got like one hit on spiritomb and died, golem and houndoom did some work but the one that did the most was the dragon dancing gyarados, which miraculously survived with the power of friendship
Even for a beginner i dont think you should lose any pokemon before the league with how easy the games are, especially with how careful pekora was, checking the type chart against every pokemon. Most of her deaths purely was because she got overconfident.
@@cyberdragoon1432 I think that friendship mechanic is utter bullshit. It removes so much skill from a game where no skill is required to begin with and makes nuzlockes a joke.

All 3 Hololive Nuzlocke players (Pekora, Calli, and Ollie) lost their starters fairly early on. Truly a fitting Nuzlocke experience.

Man, I remember back in Nuzlocke heyday in 2014-2016 I often watched Nuzlocke death compilation from the likes of Shady, Luke, Nappy, etc.
Never thought I watch Nuzlocke death compilation of a vtuber in 2021.
@@bradysloan5160 bit sad that things slowed down and they all wrecked by YT algorithm, not to mention the scandals. But some of them still going, Shady recently played nuzlocke again.
@@Justic_ yeah, I'm still subscribed to them and noticed they still doing Pokemon stuff. Tho I myself was burnt out of Pokemon since quite a while ago. But well, Pokemon community also suffer the same burnt out, and the Nappy scandal made it worse.

I think the Hololive member's takes on pokemon are kind of just a breath of fresh air because literally everyone else I've seen was tryharding the game like hell (including myself lol) to prove the point that the game is easier than the original when the point of the game is to have fun. But damn they did my boi Cyrus dirty.

@@user-nd2er8ik4t Because most of them hadn't played in a LONG time. To them it was all new experience. People who "tryhard" these games have been playing for a good while so they make ways to challenge themselves and have fun that way my guy.
@Binge Nah. Speedrunners are just folks who have fun playing that way or just wanna prove their skill or strats. Nothing wrong with that since its not like they are affecting anyone else on how to play the game
@Binge not really, there's nothing wrong with speedrunning, it can also be quite fun in itself, it's just a different way of playing the game and they often put more time into said game than the average player

Personal story but i was also doing a nuzlocke and a gastrodon mirror coated my budew and yea.

Could you imagine a Nuzlocke where it’s like. “Oh, once you beat the elite 4, all your Pokémon revive, except for the ones that die during the elite 4 battle.”
And then to revive those Pokémon, you have to do the elite 4 rematch.
So, an elimination challenge ? Every pokemon that gets knocked out is banned from the pokemon league.
Now I wonder if pokemonchallenges will review Pekora nuzlocke hehehe
I don't think he'd even consider this a nuzlocke given it had no restrictions at all when it comes to catching pokemon tbh. Ollie is the only one in Hololive to actually play with a full nuzlocke ruleset, the rest are just playing with permadeath for fainted pokemon and nothing else.

I've always kept a "Graveyard" box in my PC for them. It's nice to look back on once you're done to see everyone you've lost
