  • MPGomatic.com gets the word on the wicked cool Smyth Performance Volkswagen Jetta Pickup Truck kit from Jason Pederson at Local Motors at the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Apologies for the loud music in the background ... it was blasted out of the speakers in the booth behind the Local Motors booth. I begged them to kindly turn it down while I was shooting, and they kindly did, which was very cool, but someone decided to turn the music back up ... d'oh!
Note: This is the kit that is used in the fourth episode of Rutledge Wood's Lost In Transmission.

It's weird that I consider MPG OMatic to be a very successful show and yet, I find myself interested in and or relating to nearly every video posted haha, I WAS going to go with a 98 civic HX in my younger years but 8 TDI's later I find myself looking for a toyota tacoma and then finding this as a solve all to my solutions for my 00 Jetta (Recently bought a trailer to use instead but would much rather have the pickup bed and utility) AND my stock cd cassette player went out this very week and now I'm looking at the in dash one you sent me last week, haha thanks man I dont know how you do it but PLEASE keep it coming! (I also have a 95 wrangler with the HPA TDI kit in it fully built, gets about 30 mpg and puts out around 180hp and 280tq, VERY happy with how it turned out. And we just sold our 78 Willy's Mitsubishi DIesel sadly but if you want to hang out, do a show, are in the Columbus Ohio area anytime be sure to let me know!-Matt

Rutledge put one together on Lost in Transmission. I still like minitrucks, so I think it's sweet, but then I remembered that I don't like front-wheel drive. Damn!

Take a mk4 vr6 front subframe , complete with engine and put it in the bed.
      Add turbo for 4-500hp easily.
I saw a early rabbit pickup like that before and its not too uncommon to hack a vw pickup into rwd.

Nice tidy little ute. Just saw the lost in transmission show they expected to get 15k- they're dreaming. They should just have imported an Aussie ute and could've asked 30k because they're popular being rear wheel drive and V8 optional.

Take a TDI JETTA Wagon and leave the back seat, so you have a double cab, and convert wagon bed to a truck bed. VOILA
