Thank you for your video. Your simple step by step explanations are completely useful and helpful to a novice mech. You saved me hundreds. I enjoy watching even those I don’t need. Thanks again! 👍🏻
I love that continuous piano chord playing softly in the background. Makes me feel work in progress will be OK.
this is the best benz brake replacement video I've seen so far. Thanks!
Thanks.... just bought a Mercedes despite many people warning of repair costs. As an ex-air force tech, I reckoned that it couldn't be harder to fix than an F-18 (yes the Australian air force flies them... not navy). So thanks for helping me prove the nay sayers wrong and also giving me the satisfaction of fixing my own car.
I haven't had many problems with Mercedes. The problems are that do occur are usually small and inexpensive if fixed on your own (take it to Mercedes and that is another story). Regular maintenance is usually easy to do, once you are familiar with the design quirks. Maintenance can be a little more expensive, but most models have a lower rate of catastrophic failure than the vast majority of other brands and they can last longer than most vehicles if well taken care of.
I have a mercedes and had very few problems with it in the years i have own it. The cost arent that high on parts either
Thanks for showing me how to do before I do tomorrow. Always good to see any tips, tools, or insight. Great videos.
Great video! Only advice I would make is push the caliper back while the old pad is still on the caliper (three prong) makes for more even pressure and no damage of caliper or new pads. Also those rotors are well worn down even though the wear has been even.
You really know what's you are talking...hahahaha,very good my friend,I noticed too the same
Your videos are clear and extremely helpful! Thank you so much! You helped me figure out an ABS sensor issue on our GLK350.
Watching your video was nice gave me a few pointers on how to install my sensors on my CLS . BUT I do have some concerns I've done my own mechanics for a while now, I'm a little worried you didn't clean anything or copper grease anything. The brake pad runners need to be cleaned of all brake dust /road grime otherwise the pads could get stuck on the caliper carriers causing premature pad wear . The bolts you undone need to be cleaned and copper greased so the caliper itself will slide back and forth to release the pad off the disc.
hope you don't mind the comments
regards Harry
Hi Harry - good pointers that you have made. I find that adding all of that grease leads to a few issues; It attracts additional dust like a magnet that doesn't wash out of the grease; If you live in an area that salts and sands the roads in the winter time is also an additional problem. These parts on the Mercedes tend not to rust (aluminum/ anodized steel)
If you do add that grease do it sparingly. I appreciate the feedback.
I had the same warning on the dashboard, just because I temporarily disconnected the near side rear sensor.
It failed the MOT because of the message.
I changed both of the rear sensors and the message remained.
To clear it from the screen, I had to disconnect the battery, and reconnect it, and lo and behold, it had gone.
If I had known, I could have done that before the MOT and it would have passed...!!
Thank you. You make things clear & easy to understand. Very good video!
Great. I have been getting this last whole week. Even visited workshop, they scanned and cleared the error. Which appear back after 2 days.
Great video. Thank you for sharing
Great video just one question if my pads are replaced and they havent replaced sensor, do i need everything replaced or i can just replace sensor?
Thank you for the knowledge. You are improving society, by sharing it.
In trying to pick your Brain I ask.
2011 B200t, I just picked up a used one. It has aprox. 17000 KM's on it.
When I am coasting to a stop, the Brakes engage, but it feels only partially. However if I release and press down fast on the peddle, the Braking action is positive and I get a good hard feeling on the Peddle, which stops the car immediately.
Any idea as to what causes this? The Car was just certified and two mechanic's say the Pads are good, with lots of life left. Also there are no fluid leaks on the floor.
Thanks in advance.
Nice video, I would have liked to know which rear wheel had the sensor and what size torx you used. thanks
On my 2006 ML500 I used a 7 mm allen wrench socket for the caliper not a torx which you used.
Thank you sir!
So I replaced the pads all around the car and the rotors. Can this sensor be replaced after the fact, or do I need to take everything off again? Thanks.
Great DYI video and so easy to follow. I almost feel like doing my E350 but still little reluctant since its my wife's car and want to make sure it is done right.
You definitely can do this. Give it a shot.
Now I found out that I need to change the rotor too. not too much more but I am reluctant since Ive heard some folks getting stuck midway with all the parts off the car.
Called the shops and they want upwards of $1,200 + for the work. Did some research and parts are total about $525 for everything.
I can now do this myself.
Thanks
Very informative. Thanks
I just replaced my brake pad sensor and the brake wear indicator on the dash went away automatically. My mistake was that I reused the old sensor because it visually looked ok, but from what I learn you got to change the sensor when it has been tripped by low pad thickness and has generated brake wear indicator.
Thanks for video!
Look at your rotor. It is beyond service limits and beyond turning/resurfacing. You could buy a full set of rotors and brakes with sensors for around 220 dollars or less on Amazon
True - I updated it in another video. Thanks
Nice video thank you
thank you sir, that was educational
How many total brake sensors on the vehicle. Thanks in advance also for your videos
Thanks. Good video
Glad you liked it!
Pretty well illustrated video, but I couldn't help but notice something that I also have a question about. I have a 2002 Mercedes c320 and I need replace REAR rotors, pads & sensor, but I need to know if two sensors are require one for each of the rear tires since you only mentioned having to replace just one on your vehicle granted our models are totally different?
Take it you found out anyways but, he said at the end of the video is only on the right side
Thank you for the info on the sensors.
on the rear sensor, in an E350 , is it on the right or left?
Is it possible to only change the brake pads and not the sensors if the brake warning light hasnt come on yet?
Yes. The sensors are sensitive. Handle them with care.
Good Video
So there sensors only on the right side of the car
It would be great to know that right out front. AND the right side is the passenger side of the car. As you are driving it.
So funny.. I was JUST wondering about this earlier today! had both wheels off, thinking there was a cable missing lol!
Good afternoon. Can You please explain how to correction negative camber on Mercedes R350 or ML350 . Thanks.
Do the same procedures apply for a 2013 E CLASS
Good question Rod! I have one also and would like to know the same thing?
I’ve watched so many videos on limb mode tried every thing. Nothing seems to work. I noticed that my c/s automatic shift program is not switching. I have it on s but it’s not changing over to the c
Do you have a shop? I need a service B review. How much do you think it might cost?
Great video by the way.
No, i don't have a shop. Im not sure how much the service B costs.
Thank you so much for your channel. I have zero mechanical skills but By watching one of you other videos I was able to successfully replace both my batteries in my Mercedes. Even when I had questions you replied. Thank you for that. I have the same model ML350 (mine is 2008) that you are working on in this video. Even before my battery problem I was having a problem with the drivers side front brake grabbing without me pressing the pedal. I think it’s only that one grabbing. I got under there to check my pads and realized that the whole line that the brake pad wear sensor and the line it plugs into is completely missing. Do you think this could be the cause of why that brake is grabbing? I’d appreciate any help. Thanks again for your channel. I’m definitely a fan.
Sorry for the late response, CZcams doesn't always notify me of new comments. Did you get this issue straightened out?
When your brack lite alert comes on dose it makes it go in to a limp mode my e 320 keeps going in to limp mode
Is there a sensor for each wheel?
By unplugging the sensor, does the warning disappear?
No
He good ask explains what he doing.
but didnt show how to dpress the the caliper to properly fit the caliper with the new pads onto the rotor plus the rear rotors should be replaced as you will get vibration when stepping onto the brakes
@irepair autos what's the link for the brakes?
Hello there. I got my brake disc pads replaced and now need to buy two ABS sensors. The image that is on the dashboard came on since i got them replaced although the mechanic told me the brakes were good. Do i need to order new brakes or when i replace the ABS sensors will this image disappear? I have a 2006 Mercedes Benz B200 hatchback. I was also told i need to replace or rotate the front tires. Help please.
Hmmmm.... the light coming on after the brakes indicates that one or more brake pads is now worn past the acceptable thickness. Sensors are in the front and back of the vehicle. You should have him recheck the brakes pads. Sometimes brake pads wear unevenly so each brake pad (inside/out) must be checked. Change them in sets, meaning rear set, front set. Do not just change one side or one wheel.
@@iRepairAutos Hello there. I did replace both front and back discs pads with brand new disc pads but i did not know i had to change the ABS sensors as the previous brake disc pads were really worn down.. My question now is once i change the brake disc pads do i also need to change the ABS sensors as well? Cause the brake wear light came on after they were all changed . The mechanic told me i need to order a pair for the front but do i need for back as well?
Without scanning the car to see which brake sensor is bad you are playing the guessing game. The sensors are cheap enough to buy them both and replace both front and rear.
Thanks for this @iRepair Autos. Have few questions!
1. What is average life of these brake pads?
2. Is there a way to estimate effect of brake pad wear on braking distance ? (Graph of Brake pad thickness vs. Braking distance)
3. can u kindly share Manual or data sheet of that brake pad wear sensor!
Thank you!
The brake pad life is directly proportional to your driving habits. If you change the brake pads before the brake wear sensor is tripped then you never have to change the sensors. Once a sensor is tripped, you have to replace that sensor.
iRepair Autos cool! Any idea how its related to braking distance?
Brake sensor has nothing to do with the baking distance. The braking distance is more proportional to road conditions, tires, and vehicle load.
iRepair Autos ok! right! I wanted to know how does this sensor work? how it detects reduction in thickness of brake pad?
Brake pad wears down and eats through the sensor.
My wear indicator light comes on even though my pads are good. so I'm going to install new sensors.
Should the break wear light go off once you change everything or do I need to reset it ?
Wayne Algenio the brake wear alert will turn itself off once you change the brake sensor. Make sure both sensors don't need changing
You need to replace the sensors on the pads that you replaced the new ones
Do you have to buy a whole new sensor or just a little piece on the end
Whole thing. It's one unit.
Is the rear sensor exactly the same as the front one or îs different?
Yes
@@iRepairAutos you mean yes it’s exactly the same, right?
You did not show the part where you push the piston back in order for pad to fit
I have a ML320 2009, with new pads and sensors , and the brake wear warning keeps coming up. Sensor are good. Do you have any suggestions as to what else it could be?
Possible open circuit. Get the scanner out and see which one. Sometimes there's a bad connection.
So yard man,you didn't tell them ,that the caliper needs service ,since the other pads are good, and only one side pads was low
are the sensor in the back on the front or right rear tire ?
On all 4 in my vehicle.
Is it possible to change the wire without unbolting the caliper?
It's gonna be real tight! might end up damaging the new one.
Correct
For the cost of a Whopper burger and a large order of fries and a large Coke you can replace the sensor for that amount of money
How many total sensors are there? 1, 2 or 4. Thank you...
There are 2 sensors; one for the front and one for the rear.
one on the front, one on the rear.
Hello 2007 R350 is the some proces like ML?
+Dariusz P hi. Yes same process
Mine are not low, what do I do in this case? I drove it to a workshop, after that visit it came on. I think he messed something up
Check the front brakes too. A mechanic can damage this sensor too but I HOPE they didn't do that to you. It's possible.
iRepair Autos oh you mean the breakes behind the wheel hub? I totally forgot them
I have replaced new brake pads, but the brake wear lights still on. How to reset it?
+Zuofei Wang You have to replace the sensors. Did you check the other pads a well?
Yes, I replaced all pads and found the sensors are located only on one side(front and rear). Thanks!
Why only change the right back side, the pads?
You should change only the one(s) that need changing. Sometimes that's both.
Very wrong you always change them in pairs and if you have a lower side that's mean your caliber is going out once you hit the break the caliber don't return to where it should
Never change one brake. Always do the left and right pads for either the front or rear axles. In other words change both fronts or both rears or all four. This guy is a hack.
Thanks Keep on :)
+Simo Simo thanks.
I CHANGED BOTH FRONT AND BACK BRAKES AND ALL 4 MY SENSORS BUT I STILL GET THIS CODE EVEN TOOK IT TO BRAKE CHECK...WHY?
Possible faulty new sensors, bad connection, bad harness. Start with the sensor connections.
Tony Tyler make sure they are plugged in and seated properly.
I replaced the brake pads & sensors & the indicator light is still on
Check out my latest video
👍
Video start 8:43
I'd have cleaned everything first, then pushed the piston back before fitting the new greased pads and pins, and I wouldn't have let the caliper hang on the flexi hose, amateur work but informative video 👍
You definitely need a new plate anyway
how do you reset it
El Michoacano once the new sensor is installed the light will go off. if the light does not go off then you need to check the other sensor. this vehicle has one in the back and one in the front.
***** ok thanks I have 2 check my cz I don't knw witch one is it I have that light on
Have you changed your brake pads recently? If not they may need changing. Change the pads and the sensor together. A spent brake pad will damage the rotor if not changed out.
Ok thanks I will how much is that sensor

that piano in the background was annoying as fuck
Good info! Thanks
