  • This video was originally 1 of about 3 uploads by a user in 2011 who had some very rare footage of Phoenix in the 90s and early 2000s, Unfortunately that user would disappear taking along all the videos with him. Thankfully we saved 1 of his few uploads before it was forever gone.
This video has a 1989 White GMC Heil Formula 7000 and a possible 1995 White GMC Heil Curve Shell 7000 at the MRF and on route. This video also has some Street Transportation Department G.M. Crews aswell as Motor Broom Operations

Great to see all this unearthed. Such a shame to hear about the other lost material. The 7000 sounds amazing. Whoever taped this must have had a broad interest in infrastructure and municipal equipment, since he didn’t limit himself to the trash truck. Looking back at this era of recycling makes you wonder what it would be like if we never adopted single stream across cities like Phoenix. Reminds me of how San Diego is just now getting citywide organics, and all the growing pains that come with a rollout like that. You can clearly see the contamination that was rampant then and just as bad now. The steam roller and street sweepers are a bit more foreign to me, but it would be interesting to hear someone familiar with those comment on how it’s different from modern versions of that equipment. The vacuum at the end was quite impressive, there’s probably reason why we don’t see them around today. Very cool stuff man

This is super amazing to see these old heil trucks they had. In the 1990s did they have any other trucks besides formula 7000s and curve shell 7000s?

Really cool footage, glad seeing those 7000s pick up those Heils! Looks like recycling contamination in the 1990s was not bad compared to now. Too bad those trucks are gone now.
