This show is a great value, you get so many podcasts in one!!
Hot Take: I like this movie more than the first one, and I loved the first one. This one focused far more on the characters than the Infinity Stone. In the first one, I couldn't tell you which one was my favorite Guardian cause they were all amazing for the same reason. In this one, it locked down that Rocket was my favorite.
So you like humor like "I have famously huge turds" and "Tazerface"??
Oh shit, what a surprise cameo for the after credits scene!
Lost my father figure between when this first came out and watching it last night. I cried like a baby at the end watching this again. Wasn't expecting that.
Seaphron sorry to hear that hope you’re doing well
Even tho this is years later
I'm sorry for your loss
Damn... Why the hate? Kevin is still there, Jack is awesome and knows his shit.
Just enjoy it and remember that the podcast originated with Jack!
It originated bt jack seeing a meme n passing it along..
For the record, I like the easter eggs
Damn, I knew Kevin would try his best to have Guardians 2 so high...
Guardians 2 is at the bottom of my list
Idea: Review The Dark Knight Trilogy, Original Spider-Man Trilogy, etc.
This show is too good to end!!!!
I surprisingly wasn't crazy about this film. I really liked the first one. I can see why people would like this film a lot of they liked the tone/characters/setting that much.
To me the beginning secitons felt like an episode of an episodic TV show, and so much of that time spent there didn't have an important play in the overall plot/theme of the movie. The gold people just came back at the end to be fodder, and the batteries rocket stole were used for the aciton setpeice, but none of that had anything to do with the "main plot" of the movie which was Quill's father and his plan. Also while I was interested in Quill finding his father eventually, the way they handled the plot between them didn't resonate with me much for some reason.
I know the gold people had more use than that, but I think it would have been better if somehow the plight/motivations of the gold people were more tied to the Ego plot or something, idk.
Also I feel like they kinda retread plot things with Rocket. Even his sad ending was very comparable to the first film. (The character who he formed a particular conneciton with ended up dying at the end and he's all sad)
I did think there were good parts/things about the movie, but I was bored for longer than I would have liked to be.
As much as I did like the first one, I liked it because I found it to be a well written cohesive story. But I wasn't necassarily into the guardians and the world to the extent where I could basically watch them do anything and enjoy it (Like I do with Tony Stark and the Iron Man movies)
I realized Yondu's character arc and eventual death isn't as strong as a stand alone film, when my aunt returned from the film and couldn't understand why his death was so important. Later found out she hadn't seen the first GotG yet.
Gonna go ahead and say it: this movie is fantastic and I loved it from start to finish. I just love, love, love these characters, these actors, the usage of these songs, the cinematography, and above all the soft moments with characters just talking with one another. Everything in the ending from Yondu saving Peter at the cost of his own life to the funeral held for him to the rest of the Ravagers coming to honor him while Father and Son plays to the movie ending on Rocket shedding a tear is absolutely sublime and is the only part of any MCU movie to actually make me cry (until Infinity War) - multiple times across all rewatches, in fact! This absolutely floored me with how beautiful and even relatable it was for me and basically made me retract anything negative I had to say about the movie (though I admit the comedy didn't hit bullseye every time). This has honestly been vying for the #1 spot on my MCU rankings for a while, though Black Panther and Infinity War are also scrambling for that position.
To try and answer Andy’s point about CGI and picking favourites with the MCU over other films, it’s because you actually care about the characters so you let it slide.
By far my favorite playlist on the channel n yet it’ll be over soon with the gauntlet throwing down with our heroes!!
Omega Foxx are they continuing MCU In Review with the Marvel movies after Infinity War? Will Ant Man and the Wasp be MCU in Review with the rankings or must KF Reacts?
MBN0110 Well I assume it’ll be a normal movie review unless they are reviewing movies 3 or 4 times within the next 10 years of MCU films
AGENTS OF SHIELD IS AMAZING
Why did it take me 11 minutes to notice Greg's wearing a sleeveless crop top hoodie?
I think this movie is a good example of overdoing the rule of 3s. No one in my theater laughed when it was Nebula's turn to say "it's not ripe." Same thing with taserface. They beat that shit into the ground. And I'm with Andy. Nebula is so over-the-top. Always feels out of place for me. This movie continued what I noticed in Doctor Strange: where the jokes sometimes undercut the serious moments. I thought it was handled better in the first one.
All that said, this movie doesn't get the credit it deserves. James Gunn put the work in. This entire movie was character development and it was beautiful. The emotion is strong enough for me to overlook the bad stuff. Pratt's acting in that scene with Yondu is great.
Alex Love completely the opposite for me, my theater was filled with laughing and chuckles both times I went to see the movie
Alex Love Couldn’t agree more, in fact I’d say if I were to say I had one gripe with the MCU as a whole, it would be that. I hate when the comedy undercuts serious moments just for a cheap “laugh”
Agree 100%. My biggest "problems" with this movie were the forced jokes and Nebula's direction.
And also, liked the development from Rocket, Nebula and Gamora's relationship :O
Nebula was fantastic in number 2
Fuck the people in the theater. Did you laugh? That's what important. If you're really so distracted by the "humor" in the movie that you're paying attention to the audience, you're not immersed. That means the movie is not working
been looking forward to this since last Tuesday
Really surprised by how much they liked the movie. For me vol. 2 is somewhere in the middle...
Absolutely loved the end credit scene you guys did!
I've been catching up on In Review while you're off doing something with turkeys. That Rocket line you brought up about not losing anyone else, that hit way harder after seeing Infinity War; I was crying while cycling home!!
The reason I like this one better than the first, is that they pretty much nail the themes, the emotional beats and the major character arcs. The setup and payoff is excellent. Pretty much every character has developed in some way by the end, but without closing off any except Yondu's. Case in point is Peter and Gamora's relationship. They didn't rush to them being together. They've both still got a ways to go as people, and the movie ends with them in the right place for their character arcs, which can be rounded off in the 3rd movie.
I'm going back and rewatching all the in reviews and this one Is monumental. I believe it was the first instance of both the science with Kev and Wigging out theme songs.
Dread it, RUN from it, Infinity War still arrives. The END is NEAR.
So fucking sweet that Jack Patillo is in this one
I been waiting all day let’s gooooooo
I've read some crazy ass comments lol i never understand why people get so salty about your opinions. Love you guys!
Sweet! Jack never gets to talk about movies on Off Topic in depth so happy he’s here! Wish the table was just a liiiiiiiittle bit bigger so big Kev dog could be around it too. So pumped for Spider-Man review as well
I rewatched GotG Vol. 2 today and man.. Just made me remember how much I LOVE Rocket.
Rocket: "I'm sorry, I can only afford to lose one friend today." had me in tears. Teeaars. Rocket is such a poor soul, and I just can't bear seeing him dealing with even more pain. And then Rocket reaching out to the Ravagers for Yondu's funeral..
Yes!!! I’ve been waiting for this. I love this movie. It’s just my opinion but the last hour of this movie is my favorite
"All you wanted was to win and all I wanted was a sister!"
One of the best lines in the entire MCU.
Great Show guys! Love me some guardians!!
I did not like this movie when I saw it in theaters. I have since rewatched it twice, last one being yesterday. And I do enjoy it a lot more than I did before.
BUT.
A LOT of the jokes in the guardians movies are really really bad. Whether it being forced, or ran into the ground. It’s very childish and not in a charming way. Rewatch this movie and count the amount of times characters laugh out loud. It’s really uncomfortable in a way.
To me it seems Gunn has the actors stick to his script quite accurately and so some of the humor feels very forced, unlike Ragnarok.
Personally I would rank this as number 12 on your list, it's hard to reach me with comedy so the majority of this movie was unfunny jokes which I can usually deal with as again it's hard for comedy to reach me but this movie had unfunny jokes ruining serious moments as well other jokes that I did like Which seriously ruined the movie for me.
This should have so many more views and more thumbs up.
I watched this film on a flight back from New Zealand last July. I'd been awake about 36 hours and it was near the end I thought "Oh shit! I am not emotionally ready for the funeral scene". It took so much effort to not weep in front of everyone and I'm not sure I totally succeeded. Fantastic scene.
I've mostly agreed with your movie ratings, but this is such a great movie on so many levels. It checks all the boxes and hits all the emotions. I would have rated it the #2 movie.
Finally! Never leave me waiting Again!!!
Had such a lonely breakfast...
I think adding a new guy changes the dynamics of the conversation...
I’ve been listening to this for most of the podcast and I just looked at it and Greg’s shirt freaked me out for a minute
I would put Vol. 2 above Age of Ultron, but no higher. I just felt like there was something off about this movie compared to the first one. Also, they relied too much on Baby Groot and Drax laughing.
Shoot, I might even put it below Ultron.
Thank you for giving this movie a high ranking and recognizing how great of a villain Ego is. The amount of hate this movie gets just baffles me.
zachmaster014 the amount of praise it gets baffles me
Loving Cool Greg at the end!!!!! LOL
I'm with Nick on this one. On the quality of films alone Guardians 2 shouldnt be ranked in the upper echelons of guardians 1, winter soldier or the avengers. On this list it should be below black panther
None For All opinions aren't allowed on the internet. How dare you respond to this comment!
thats the thing.. no one is with nick.
The Last Prophet 30 people who voted this comment up are with nick
I think Yondu's death does payoff in this one but I think if he survives this one and died at the hands of Thanos early in Infinity War that it would give Peter, Rocket and Groot a real personal reason to want Thanos dead like Nebula, Gamora and Drax have.
But Yondu sacrificing himself to save Peter from his biological dad is infinitely more impactful.
TEC like I said, it definitely pays off in GOTGV2, it's just something I never thought about until Tim mentioned it. I selfishly miss Yondu and want him in Avengers 3, 4 and GOTGV3. But I'm just saying that if Yondu saved Peter but survived the way Peter did when saving Gamora in GOTG and we got too see a father son dynamic for the last 10 minutes of the movie and in the beginning of Infinity War and then saw Thanos kill Yondu in front of Peter and all the Guardians I think it would have still paid off and really painted a picture of Thanos. Could have had Yondu protecting Peter in this case as well. It's an amazing movie and I'm happy with the entire thing, just another route they could have went.
I'm only 30 minutes in or so and this might be my favorite episode of MCU in Review so far.
After watching this amazing review I have come to realize that kinda funny needs to make a shirt using the kinda funny logo but add a beard to it and underneath it should say kinda bearded
Keep up the great content guys!
Just watched the jack P morning show and couldn’t get enough! I can feel it coming in the air tonight, oh lord!!!
GotG2 was fine imo....nothing special. The first guardians was probably the most fun i had in a theater in YEARS (9/10), so my expectations were just too high.
Great visuals, but too many cheap jokes that completely missed. And while the visuals were beautiful, it felt like too much cgi to me personally. Idk....just lacked the magic of the first one
I didn't like drax in this one at all. One of you guys (Tim i think ?) described him perfectly: While in the first one, his jokes were more based on his character, in this one he was just saying (and missing) joke after joke after joke and most felt completely out of character...just felt REALLY forced.Oh and Peter Quill didn't have the same Solo-esque charme as in the first movie. Me and my friends were pretty disappointed. I'd give it a 6.5/10.
I actually agree with Nick's final verdict....for the first time ever :D
Great video! Can't wait for Spider-man
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 is definitely in my top 5 of the MCU
Honestly, I wasn't really into Vol. 2. A lot of the comedy felt forced where it once felt natural in the first movie. I dunno, it just felt like fan fiction at times. I still liked it, and I thought it had some really solid moments, but overall I thought it was definitely one of the weaker MCU movies in recent years.
Best post credit scene yet boys
Here in NZ infinity war comes out earlier on April 25th so we get to watch the Thor ragnarok Mcu in review on Wednesday morning and then imax showing of infinity war straight after! Can’t wait!
That end of credits cut scene was the best one !
GotG 2 was meh.
12:18 is the main reason I keep coming back to this video 😂
You think Agents of Shield is long! I've been watching every episode of every Star Trek series systematically with my wife. I can't say that i've been awake for all the episodes, but it's largely been entertaining. Feels like we've been watching them for forever now, though.
My list so far:
1. Captain America: Civil War (2016) - Debated between this or Winter Soldier being better but this just has so many cool moments.
2. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014) - The best standalone film which is a great film overall and not just as a superhero film.
3. Marvel’s The Avengers (2012) - Although it wasn't as good as I remembered. The highs are still so memorable.
4. Iron Man (2008) - Better than I remembered. Now I see why people think this is the best movie. Easily a classic.
5. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) - Had so much more fun watching this than the first time. Introduces and makes us love these characters so easily.
6. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015) - Way better than I remembered. So many good moments but cannot compete with the other team up movies.
7. Iron Man 2 (2010) - Way better than I remembered. Thought this would be bad but was so much fun to watch. So many fun characters and interactions.
8. Ant-Man (2015) - Way better than I remembered. Paul Rudd and Michael Pena take this movie from potentially bad to great.
9. Doctor Strange (2016) - Very similar to Ant-Man in that they both had very unique action scenes but DS had very little humour and none of it laugh out loud funny. Paul Rudd’s charisma and the comedy puts AM only slightly higher.
10. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) - Slightly better than I remembered. Lots of attempts at jokes, not all of them land but still very funny. The action and emotional scenes were really good. But a lot of forced exposition and jokes combined with a messy/empty plot keep this from being higher on the list. While GOTG1 seemed to revolutionise the Marvel formula, GOTG2 gives us more of the same.
10. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) - Meh, this is mainly because Cap is my favourite character but also the movie has a lot of heart.
11. Iron Man 3 (2013) - Way better than I remembered. I thought this would be garbage but it was surprisingly entertaining if you turn your brain off.
12. Thor: The Dark World (2013) - Way better than I remembered. Same reason as Iron Man 3 but doesn't have the RDJ charm, although Loki might be as awesome.
13. Thor (2011) - Worse than I remembered. Hated the diagonal camera stuff, took me completely out of the movie. Still kind of fun but entirely forgettable.
14. Incredible Hulk (2008) - Don't even remember watching it the first time, probably won't ever watch again.
Dont have a problem with your list but i call bullshit on the reasoning for guardians 2
Haven't seen the Ep yet, but I really like the idea of no guests on this podcast. I could be totally wrong, and this could be awesome though.
Way too high on this one. Guardians one is so much better.
I have this ranked at...
1. Civil War (77%)
2. Guardians of the Galaxy (75%)
3. Black Panther (71%)
4. Iron Man 3 (69%)
5. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 (69%)
It bothered me how often they reused bits from the first movie. Actually, a lot of this movie felt like they were just dialing up what people responded to from the first. People liked the pop-soundtrack, make sure to splice in a recognizable pop song as often as possible, people thought Drax was funny, make him the comic relief (Drax no longer functions like he did in the first movie and doesn't have much to do here), dance number into title screen, "We're Kevin Bacon/I'm Mary Poppins," etc...
The soundtrack in the first movie felt more integral; it was an off-kilter way of achieving characterization that is - at this point - well established. Having even more this time around felt like they were just beating a dead horse. Drax was funny in Vol1: he couldn't level with people when it came to levity because he takes everything literally and mostly finds joy in grotesque and violent things that would stress other people out. He has little to do in this movie besides act like a babbling idiot. I'd expect the character to focus in on something and keep to himself mostly, but he's the complete opposite of that and it feels wrong knowing what we know about him from the last movie. The dance number here also doesn't achieve the same level of story telling that Vol1 did with Peter gallivanting through what was framed as a hostile environment. In Vol1 the dance number established the character, in Vol2 it was done for show.
It's also pretty messy in comparsion to the first: a lot of false starts with disparate character threads that don't become relevant to one another until the final act. I remember getting Attack of the Clones flashbacks when they got to egos planet and the movie still hadn't established a firm trajectory for the plot.
I still think it's a good movie. It just doesn't measure up to what they did with Vol1.
1:33:28 yeah it was mentioned at shield, coulson says something it was stuff just like the incident at Missouri they were chasing that black stuff.
Would love the sequel of Guardians to just be a Home Alone remake starring Rocket making traps.
Oh snap! Cool Greg!
Each of the guys explaining what they thought happened to you in space was too funny!
ranked way too high
By far the best after credits scene, Cool Greg’s the man!
Love the show. The new Guardian's ship is the Benatar a la Pat Benatar.
Top Tier after credits scene. Love it.
cool greg!
You guys ranked this movie WAY too high. I 100% agree with Nick
Glad Jack is there, he seems to genuinely pay attention to the movie, can’t say that for everyone else in these reviews
As someone who’s been a fan of agents of shield since jump street....thank you kevin
I genuinely feel like this movie is better than guardians 1 in every aspect. Better climax, villain, action scenes.. idk how it's generally considered the first is better than volume 2.
Guardians 2 over Guardians 1 is insane
These guys also rank this POS over Spider-Man 2. What does that tell you?
@@Imari-Tard TO YOU.
I didn't notice that Jack was there until Tim pointed him out... And I got so fucking excited
28:42 "Do the drapes - match the rugs - let's find out - and talk hair plugs."
I still think Guardians 2 was pretty disappointing. Very few of the jokes worked for me, and the plot just didn't do it for me. Didn't feel the same connection to most of the heroes as in the original either. I think I felt closer to the tangental characters than to peter, rocket, etc...I think I actually liked Nebula more in this one than most of the main characters.
The_Grimby I may not agree with your Bioshock Infinite views but this is spot on 😉
Probably the length, bro.
Jack is the greatest ... Guys for reals LOVE these things, I can watch over and over just like the movies themselves haha I say we do a ranking of the ranking of the MCU in Review hahaha
WOW when I first looked I thought, how did Greg's beard grow sooo much and then I was like oh that isn't Greg lol
EVERY WEEK I WAIT!
I wish it wouldn't end :(
I'd love for you guys to do a "worst idea of all time" style podcast where you watch the lowest ranked mcu film once a week for a year
15. Thor: The Dark World
14. Ant-Man
13. The Incredible Hulk
12. Thor
11. Iron Man 2
10. Avengers: Age of Ultron
9. Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2
8. Iron Man 3
7. Doctor Strange
6. Captain America: the First Avenger
5. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
4. Captain America: Civil War
3. The Avengers
2. Iron Man
1. Guardians of the Galaxy
YES ANDY, THE FRIES AT DQ ARE AMAZING
I’m glad Jack pointed out that they put Avengers waay too high ‘cause i 100% agree lolol. Sad Kevin wasnt in the group but i still enjoyed this discussion :)
Guardians 2 was for the longest time my favorite MCU movie until Ragnarok.Aside from some the of the over played humor like the Tazer Face thing everything else was pure gold.
Panzer GS The original bit with Rocket was pure gold though haha
My favorite MCU moment is Starlord talking about never having a father to play catch with growing up, then cut to him and Ego playing catch. It’s fucking amazing.
“For the longest time until Ragnarok” so like 5 months?
Probably closer to 6 months.
I seriously laughed out loud when Greg fully explains RAGUBAGU.
Am I even spelling it right? Something about the first 2 letters then...aw forget it, Andy hit it!
I liked having jack on, he fit since he’s such a big superhero movie fan.
am i the only one who's gonna appreciate greg's mizzou women's jacket
I could be wrong but I think Nick really likes the 1st Iron Man.
Sorry but black panther is way too low right now
#Facts
They’ll probably put spider man and Thor 3 above it
Funish fact: Aaron Schwartz, Gerald Garner in "Heavyweights", was used as Young Ego's facial reference.
Tim mistaking "Jack gets 80% of the revenue" for (I assume)"Jackets 80% off" is quite hilarious.
Hour and a half long? Cool, just hope Pop Pop a.k.a. Nick doesn't get grumpy toward the end because he's getting sleepy.
Better thans guardians 1 for sure. I finally agree with you guys in a long time
Never knew Nick was from Riverside, I don't know why I felt such a strong connection to him in that moment
Actually if you check out the Cinema Relics CZcams channel, they have a fan made live-action Futurama short film. It’s great, and they have behind-the-scenes as well.
Removing your helmet In space will force the air out of your lungs. If you release all the air in your lungs before removing your helmet, you should be able to last a couple of seconds as if under water, until you pass out. But you won't freeze, Space is cold, but you're body retains heat to well to be able to freeze instantly.
There will be a boiling sensation of bodily fluids like spit because of a change in pressure (aka lower boiling temp).
The side facing the sun could burn up fairly quickly though.
thought guy in the middle was greg for a sec and i freaked
