  • A north wales weekend trip with timeless overland to some special lanes.
We tackled the slippery steps in Llangollen and the awesome side slopes and rock steps on the famous bastard lane.

Good to see the Surf making it look like a drive to Tesco's. Lol.

Are the defender owners ok? I just see they preferred to winch up rather then drive 😅 disappointed as a Land Rover owner 😢

That was incredibly slippery that day. Even getting to the steps was difficult.
All of the cars had to winch up that first step. I haven’t driven it in the dry but I’m guessing from people’s comments that the defenders would drive it without a problem.
The disco driver is a tour guide and has driven it loads and he’s never seen it that slippery before.

Thanks buddy. That 110 is such a good truck. The rocks were so slippery that day and there was virtually no traction. It was a good challenge though. 💪💪

Where is that small ford next to gate and also that river drive? I've not done bastard lane yet but i didn't think it has a giant ford!

Does any of these awsome vehicles have any lockers or limited slip diffs?
Doesn't seem like to me, but would be interesting to know as I am planning on installing some Ashcroft ATBs.

No they don't - I don't know why people spend so much money on making their "rigs" look all OFF-ROAD and don't bother with the most important mods. These vehicles are essentially just 2WD. Better to look OFF-ROAD than be able to drive OFF-ROAD perhaps...
We all have Ashcroft air lockers and made it up that lane easily with no winching or bouncing up steps needed.

    • @axialtwisters4x4andphotogr25
      @axialtwisters4x4andphotogr25  Před rokem

My silver 90 has an Ashcroft rear locker and Gwyn Lewis suspension and the other 90 has the Gwyn Lewis challenge kit which is just about the best you can get.
The 110 is a spectacular truck that has had more money spent on it than you could imagine.
All 3 defenders are extremely capable trucks that not only look good but work extremely well.
The ground that day was wet and extremely slippery as you can see by how difficult it was just to gain traction before the steps.
I’m guessing you drove it in the dry where traction wasn’t an issue.

Have a look at my comment buddy and sorry for the long time to reply.
My locker is an Ashcroft air locker in the rear of my silver 90.
The other 2 defenders have awesome suspension but no lockers.
Ashcroft we’re really good and I’d defo recommend them. 👌👌

What is wrong with these people? Why can't they just walk, they are all able bodied after all? But wait a minute.... what is wrong with the authorities who permit this kind of antisocial adventurism in public green spaces and national parks? If you agree with me email the authorities that administer these areas and ask them to proscribe these antisocial petrolhead activities and to promote the quiet enjoyment of nature by people on foot, cycles, horses or accessibility transport for people with disabilities.

@@hughpeters2712 you make no sense. There are plenty public footpaths through some nice country side. Why would you want to walk down the roads?

    • @hughpeters2712

@@divahurts Sense?? These green lanes are not public roads in any sense understood by sensible, reasonable people. If the roads outside people's houses were in a condition approaching that of the green lanes the voluble motoring lobby would be making much noise about it. Vehicle excise duty does not devolve to the National Parks Authority to maintain green lanes for the benefit of petrolheads. Why should the vast majority of sensible, reasonable walkers, cyclists and horseriders who enjoy national parks peacefully be expected to keep out of the way of the minority of petrolheads who, like overgrown 10 year olds, think the countryside is some kind of glorified go-kart playground? If they don't, confrontations, collisions and injuries result, and they certainly have done, these collisions sometimes being inaccurately described as accidents. In cities it is illegal to drive or ride motorbikes in public parks. The police periodically have purges and impound and crush trail bikes, quad bikes etc being ridden illegally and antisocially where normal people are trying to enjoy the outdoors quietly. This point seems entirely lost on you. "Why would you want to walk down the green lanes?" Why wouldn't you use them as they were intended by those who created them long before humans began driving around everywhere in metal boxes.
