    Expensive! A fun place to visit once a year… that’s it! 😉😉

    Hawaii has 21 army installations that they no longer need, these installations should be turned over to the Hawaii people for living space.

      We definitely need some more creative solutions to deal with the housing shortage. Maui doesn't have much military presence but there are other ways the government could support more affordable housing.

    I really love the Island of Maui, especially Lahaina (what is not existing currently) and Kapalua. I was visiting several times, because I was hooked on the lifestyle and the climate. Otherwise, I've to say, that there are many beautiful vacation places in this world. I personally love the Maledives and the Seychelles, not so crowded, and so much nature. Unnecessary to say, that you need a lot of money to take a vacation on Maui. My husband and I spent nearly 30k for 14 days, of course it included 12 nites at the Lahaina Shores and we went to restaurants every day. I did some good shopping too in exclusive paintings.
    Anyway, this world has great places to enjoy a beautiful vacation. Just to everybody, keep all the opportunities worldwide in your mind. Much ALOHA. 😂❤

      Yes we traveled a lot before we had kids, we loved Central America, Europe, SE Asia. But Maui was always our favorite so eventually we made the move :) We hope to continue to travel as our children get older!

    Aloha from Makawao. My wife and I just recently moved here from to be with her family Colorado. One thing we’ve loved moving here is being able to still have mountains (being from Colorado it can be kind if depressing if you are in a place where you can’t see mountains), but not having winter temperatures is so nice. Also for us the monitory side of things seems the same to us because Colorado is also very expensive but the wages for our jobs here actually pay significantly better.

      Aloha Caleb! Moving from the northwest my family also loved the combination of mountains and ocean that we had before. The water is much more enjoyable here though :) It's nice to be able to find the climate you want, or even go "chill" at the top of Haleakala.

    The biggest con is the corruption at the County level and the rampant incompetence and nepotism that makes this island very dangerous during/post a natural disaster. And don’t forget about the abysmal healthcare.

    • @mauireallife
      @mauireallife  Před 3 měsíci

      I thought those were just jokes about an island economy but I've heard too many real stories now. Bribery too in building/construction. Healthcare has been ok for us but I know specialty care can be hard to come by.

    I believe with the STR going to hit condos that real estate will values will take a significant depreciation. It has to fulfill the goal of providing affordable living.

    I am Maui'an, and a Hana Tour Guide, but Maui is NOT smaller than Oahu; the islands are actually in exact order of size, yet in contrast to their age, ergo BI (Hawaii) is the largest, but youngest, and Kauai the oldest but smallest......Population is grim contrast to size of islands: Oahu holds about 95% of HI-population = 1.14 mio. vs. 1.4 mio in total.

    • @mauireallife
      @mauireallife  Před 3 měsíci

      100% correct, when I say smaller I meant by population, and yeah it's not even comparable!

    Good video ,very honest and informative.
    I'm Caucasian from New York City here over 30 years. There is racism and prejudice against caucasians which you haven't mentioned YET.

      @mauireallife  Před 2 měsíci

      Thanks Ken. I'm mostly pointing out the things I've noticed from my experience, and so far overt racism hasn't been a big issue. I know it can be and of course I've been called a haole and even told to go home. I take it with a grain of salt and know that most people here are full of love.

    A lot of your pros and cons could apply to life here in SoCal. Of course, our taxes are atrocious. How are they in Maui?

    • @mauireallife
      @mauireallife  Před 3 měsíci

      Yeah I imagine there are similarities, though I think your traffic is a whole different level than ours :) As far as taxes we have just under 5% excise tax on goods, income taxes, and tiered property taxes. Property taxes are some of the lowest in the country, but it depends on your use (short term rental class rate is 4-5x that of owner occupied).

    Hey Josh what an amazing video. The Top Lists were spot on so I will of course validate it from our experience over the last 4+ years. We feel as if we were embraced by Maui so we are totally in sync with the culture, land, and lifestyle. Often while driving in Kihei I will see a “neighbor” sitting at an intersection trying to gain access and so I flick my car lights so they can cross in front of me. Most times the locals get it, unfortunately the visitors won’t and will not be aware of this hint. But that spirit of Aloha - so bra take it easy, no hurry, etc is all part of the life here. That would be a fun video to do - what really is Aloha and how do we show it to one another here on Maui (I.e., driving, shopping, beach smiles/greetings). Great no an AMAZING video. Can’t wait to see more… Thanks.

      Hey thank you Randy, I appreciate it! Yes I love how the Aloha is real and you see it in so many different ways on the island. But letting others into traffic is one of my favorites too.

    Maui is way too crowded. I live on the Big Island and only go to Maui if I absolutely have to.

    • @mauireallife
      @mauireallife  Před 3 měsíci

      It can be, just depends on where you're coming from! It's uncrowded compared to Oahu or most big metros, but doesn't compare to the openness of the Big Island!

      @RSpicochi Před 3 měsíci

      We feel the same way about the Big Island. They are both beautiful and each unique in their own way.
