My Complicated Relationship with Father’s Day

Growing up I never had a relationship with my father.
He unfortunately wasn’t there within my life. Within the past 4 years I was fortunate enough to be put in touch with him, this allowed for me to build a relationship with him.
I went in thinking that connecting with the man who gave me half of my DNA. Half of my blood. half of everything that physically determines who I am would lead to many of my questions being answered, therefore filling holes that existed within me.
But it was quite the contrary.
Getting to know my father actually created deeper holes within me, such as a yearn for approval and a desire for every missing moment to be made up for. This actually created a very large mental and emotional struggle that took me years to overcome.
It truly was only through finding my father in Jesus that I had every missing hole filled. It didn’t happen overnight or in one prayer, it truly took time.
I created this film to advocate for all the other people that endure the father struggle as I call it. This film is not just for people who have missing fathers but also fathers who may have passed, fathers who may be physically there but not in any other way. This film is for anyone. Even those that have present fathers but sometimes feel let down or hurt.
Every aspect of this film was created intentionally. From the music, to the color grade, to the sound effects. And when I say everything. I mean everything. There is a lot of symbolic meaning included within each shot and it’d be amazing to hear your interpretation in the comments.
I want to thank every person who viewed this film. It means so much that you took time out of the day to watch my film. I also want to thank any and all amazing fathers out there that are truly the protectors and leaders of their families. I aspire to be just like you one day.

wow... this left me in tears. This video captures so much emotion for me. Even though I have a present dad sometimes it'd feel like he'd not be there when I needed him most because he thought more money would help our family. Amazing video Christian.
