- I haven't forgotten it. I admire your style of football and that particular game was an incredible one. I was upset when Ivkovic saved my penalty, but luckily we went through to the semis. From that generation of Yugoslavian players I remember Dragan "Piksi" Stojkovic and I often ask how he and Dejan are doing. Piksi was an incredible footballer -- moved across the park with such ease -- it was like dancing with the most beautiful girl. He was a true star.

To je bilo vreme kada majstor igra (i dribla kada mu se dribla...sam odlučuje) a tupani su čistili blato sa kopaja, i nisu bili kapiteni i direktori i itd... A u današnje vreme "stručnjaci" imaju svi istu taktiku primi-dodaj, dodaj-primi-dodaj...i tako dok se ne useru i učesnici i publika od muke!!!To su prosto dve različite vrste ljudi, i do pre 20-ak godina su u većini bili jedni (kojima i sam pripadam), a zadnjih 20-ak god. dominiraju drugi! Prvi su šmekeri, dobri ljudi, duhoviti, materijalno ih ne interesuje tri kurca, inteligentni, itd... A ovi drugi su klasične glupe klošarčine, gladni para daaaaj još, daaaaaaj jooooooš...a kompleksaši koji cupi nisu videli do 35-e godine, pokupovali diplome i za srednje škole (ni za taj nivo mozga nemaju, gramzivi, seronje, pičkice koji su primali čvengere i macole, itd...!!!

My goodness, talk about reeling in the years! This was my introduction to Balkan footballing genius, courtesy of Dragan Stojkovic! The Yugoslavian team was good with Savicevic and a young Prosinecki, but with Stojkovic it was marvellous. Yugoslavia should have won at least 2-0 in regulation time, and certainly in penalty kicks; the Red Star players were famous at the time for their cold-blooded penalty-taking precision. It was sad that such a skillful national side had to exit the WC so soon.

@@xilo3012 Probably he meant Stojkovic's choice to play in Japanese League, instead of big clubs like AC Milan or Real Madrid. Compare to his team mates at Red Star Belgrade : Dejan Savicevic who played at AC Milan and Robert Prosinecki who played at Real Madrid and Barcelona.
@@lexsoft3969 Well he didn't choose Japan over such teams did he, so it is nonsense. He went to Marseilles after Italia 90, which was at the time a strong team but from his very first season he had lots of injury problems. After that, he presumably didn't have great appeal to big teams because they didn't think he would be able to play regularly. Injuries dictated his fortunes.

Možda presudni momenat kad je Šabanadžović dobio crveni,jebiga čuvati Maradonu u to vreme nije bilo lako.Odatle utakmica menja tok ali i sa desetoricom smo im drzali lekciju.Falila je sreća.Definitivno najjača generacija za mene na ovim prostorima.
Odigrali smo preostali dio meča tako dominantni naspram Argentine, da malo ko uopšte danas i ima u vidu da smo na terenu stajali sa jednim manje igračem.
Ovu tekmu smo igrali bez centarfora... zašto-ne znam... da je igrao Pančev, verovatno bi smo bili polufinalisti... a Piksi je ceo taj mundijal bio fantastičan... možda bi bio i igrač mundijala da smo prošli ovde...

partizanovac sam ali ovo je najbolji igrac na od vardara do triglava ikad....pa nekoliko mesta prazno pa boban,savicevic,prosinecki,mijatovic itd...itd
Osim sto si partinazovac, i srbin si pa izdvajas srbina za svog favorita. Ja sam iz CG, i nikad necu reci da su dejo ili pedja bili najbolji na balkanu iako mogu biti u konkurenciji. Nije sporno da je piksi bio vrhunski igrac, sigurno u top 10 najboljih sa balkana ali ne i da je najbolji ikada. Uostalom najbolji ikada ne bi promasio odlucujuci penal, tu dolazi do izrazaja i karakter igraca, bavio sam se profesionalno fudbalom i znam o cemu pricam. Za mene je recimo Luka Modric najbolji igrac ikada sa ovih prostora.

You are right. West Germany squad were solid. It's not only Matheus; they had Uwe Bein, Andreas Moller and Olaf Thon in midfield who were strong. Jurgen Klinsman was outstanding at the front. The other Jurgen, i.e Jurgen Kohler was strong in defense. So it's not Stojkovic vs Matheus; it's the whole Yugo vs strong West Germany.

Sjecam se ove tekme... imao sam 12 godina.. bolji smo bili 17 puta.. pred kraj s igracem manje i opet smo ih ševili ko majmune.. i na kraju prokleti penali... 17 puta smo bolji bili!!!

Definitely he needed a real goal scorer ahead of him....lots of opportunities and no-one did a goal, the same thing happened against Emirates....he was a very good player but again the fuckin lucky argentinians won.

The poor amount of goals and Argentina reaching the finals playing horribly and with extreme defensive tactics was the final tipping point to make the game more dynamic. 3 points for winners and forbidding keepers to pick up the Ball from a teamate came after this fiasco
