THANK YOU. I appreciate these are all picks i havent read yet. I feel like everyone recommends the same 3 romantasy books. 😭 Which are fine, but there's a lot more out there, and i'm not usually in the mood for a romance book.
I really feel like some romantasy is romance with a little fantasy. I usually want fantasy with a LITTLE romance. So that's why I categorize romantasy, and fantasy romance very differently.
@katgreer6113 yeaaah. Honestly I've started to enjoy romance in my books more recently. But frankly, instead of spending time on stupid miscommunication tropes for relationship drama, they could spend time on actual plot problems (that effect the people in the relationship) for the same space. Genuinely, I'm not judging people for liking the drama, it has it's place, and can be really fun and suspenseful if done right! but if there is literal world ending demon army outside, and our heroine is crying about her boyfriend lying to her for 7 chapters, I'm gonna be mad LMAO. Like there's some actual priorities a person should have in that instance.
@katedustinrzonca9992 i think you need to choose the books that pique your interest the most. The discworld books are very varied, and you may be choosing ones that dont follow your interest. For example, I Love macbeth, so I loved the Wyrd Sisters. I read Moving Pictures during the SAG AFTRA strike which was honestly hilarious. When I felt like some dark humour, I read the death books.
Kings of the Wyld is one of my FAVORITES! But for grimdark, there's nothing better than the First Law series. Some of the best character building I've ever seen.
Legendborn is SO GOOD. Great worldbuilding, characters, character development, representation of various types of grief and trauma, I LOVE IT. I'm waiting for the third book in agony lol (book 2 has a cliffhange aaaa)
I read it because of this video and I swear everyone else who reads it doesn't like it! it's probably because people only read stuff like SJMaas (which I read too) and the pace is too fast to enjoy a slower book like this. You can tell how excited I am to find someone who likes it cause I'm rambling. 😁
Kings of the Wyld was a fun ride. It's not the first fantasy to feel like someone novelized one of their D&D campaigns, but it really nailed that vibe (and I *miiiight* have borrowed a few things from it ~The Quarry is a fantastic concept.) I remember another fantasy I read around the same time as KotW, Fate of the Fallen by Kel Kade. It was a pretty middle of the road book, but I'm still interested to see how the series resolves its premise of "What happens when the prophecy fails"
I am always looking to read more books by women. I have a hard time breaking through the noise on recommendations. For Alt History Fantasy I really recommend 'Iron Widow' by Xiran Jay Zhao
Realm breaker is actually really amazing, the final book just came out a few days ago and I’ve read the entire trilogy! It’s absolutely NOTHING like Red Queen, it’s found family and multiple povs. I would definitely recommend it!
Any recs for fantasy graphic novels? (Not big on romance as a main focus but I don't mind it as a subplot) Normal novels are lovely but graphic novels tend to hold my attention for longer unless the novel is really interesting XD
Love these recs!! Paul J Bennett’s books are my faves, if you’re looking for nice long high medievel fantasy and sword & sorcery books, they’re the best
High epic fantasy: Real Breaker by Victoria Aveyard Low fantasy: The invisible Life of Addie La Rue by VE Schwab Contemporary: Legendborn by Tracy Deonn Equal parts fantasy and romance: The hurricane wars by Thea Guanzon Grimdark: The poppy war by RF Kuang Sword and sorcerery: Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames Cosy: That time I got drunk and saved a demon by Kimberly Lemming Coming of age: Of Blood and Fire by Ryan Cahill Historical: The Children of Gods and Fighting Men by Shawna Lawless
I looked up natural history of dragons because i saw your video a little under a month ago. Read the whole series (not including Turning Darkness to Light) in about two weeks and loved every second.
@@connorbooth7207 The main character is very mundane, and there is a ton of information bloat delivered in a way that is annoying to take on. At times it felt like reading a textbook.
@@stinkingyeti You're in for surprises if you keep reading The Poppy War and read the other books. Honestly, with it's somewhat of a slow start, things get so intense, and the world expands in such a way that I really appreciated the foundation that The Poppy War was. And about Rin being mundane...trust me, her and her buddies' character development will captivate you. Seriously, very few do it like R.F. Kuang.
Wow, new authors to check out, wonder if any are already on my wish list🤔. Always look to add to my list of favorite authors, hopefully they're on audible,
I can recommend like all but the last 20 pages of The Poppy War. Its based on the japanese-chinese wars of the 30s and is super good, but dark because the actual wars were horrific.
I’m reading the last book in the trilogy the Poppy wars. I warn you, it’s a lot of war. Like 80% or more, just war. It’s like a war story with a sprinkle of magic in it. And war. Just so you know what you’re getting into.
The fantasy books I read Harry Potter twilight school for good and evil I want to get into the Percy Jackson series but I have to either buy the books or find an audiobook.
I haven't finished it but The Saint of Bright Doors is a wiiiiilllld time so far, it's something akin to dream fantasy horror Notorious Sorcerer for swashbuckling fantasy Hall of Smoke for Viking fantasy Jade City for Chinese Triads fantasy Nettle & Bone for unalive your evil BIL fantasy Fortune's Pawn for the best sci-fi action blockbuster rollercoaster in book form
Kings of the wyld is specifically for people who love a comical, pseudo absurdist story set in a dndesque world. Aka, what if a dnd campaign became a book
The Words of Kings & Prophets, book 2 of the Gael Song , is even better than The Children of Gods & Fighting Men! The prequel novella, Dreams of Fire is being released this month!!!
I like all fantasy genres... But more important info is: are those books finished stories and resonable lenght? Recently I feel like every time i pick something inerrsting its just part one of fuckton and half of the time its still unfinished.
That time i got drunk and saved a demon sounds like an anime title💀😭
There's also: that time I got drunk and yeeted a love potion at a werewolf ....... 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's what I was thinking! Anime titles are so crazy for no reason😭
LMAO I SAID THE SAME THING WHEN I HEARD THE TITLE
literally that time I got reincarnated as a slime
It has the same vibes as A Boring World Where Dirty Jokes Do Not Exist

@bobwilliams1827 Yes it is! And I really liked the narration.
I loved Legendborn so much! I’m so excited to read the 2nd book 🙃
I'm halfway through book 2 and dreading a cliffhanger
Kings of the wyld is one of the most entertaining books I've ever read, and I can't recommend it enough
I started reading it on a family vacation and then spent the week ignoring my family and the beach just so I could continue reading it.
I absolutely loved the poppy war lol
I love A Natural History of Dragons, that entire series is amazing
Im gonna slund stupid, but is it actually a history book on dragons?
@@ruru2977 it’s about a woman who becomes a dragon naturalist in fantasy Victorian England where dragons exist, is such a good read
@islamurphy445 I may actually give it a read, I normally read high fantasy romance but I have major soft spot for anything about dragons 🐉😅

i LOVE kings of the wyld. great comedy, great fantasy (heavily based on D&D), excellent writing and characters. can't recommend it enough
Yess! It's so immersive! And you said it, the characters are written so fantastically😫😫
I'm busy editing my fantasy book now to prepare it for publishing. Hopefully I see it in those stacks of recommendations in the future ^^

I’ve actually only read the last one, wow! I’ve been reading this genre nonstop for approximately eleven years, so new recommendations can be rare
Wow wonderful video. I'm not a fantasy fan so I had no idea how many sibgenres there were! You made these sound so compelling.
Cannot recommend Kings Of The Wyld enough, that was the most fun I've had reading a fantasy novel in the longest time.
I had a blast reading it as well!😂😂😂

THE POPPY WAR !! 😭

I read a A Natural History of Dragons a few years back, and it is amazing.
Great picks that aren't all super well known from an actual wide range of sub-genres. Subscribed
Finally someone mentions the hurricane wars! It’s also enemies to lovers and light vs shadow (daddy) magic
after the Red Queen series, i will never let Victoria Aveyard hurt me again…
Right? But somehow I still want to read it.
Realm breaker is actually really amazing, the final book just came out a few days ago and I’ve read the entire trilogy! It’s absolutely NOTHING like Red Queen, it’s found family and multiple povs. I would definitely recommend it!
😂😂😂Every time I see a mention of the Red Queen, I often mistake it for Mark Lawrence's Red Queen's War.
Genuinely that name coming up first gave me such distrust 😅
