Caring for dead and dying, and their bodies/being a death doula is a very special calling - great to see a kids book covering this.

What a sweet little girl. So wonderful that she reads so much! My 10 year old is a reader as well, it makes my heart happy.

I love hearing about what your daughter and you read, plus family reads. The last book we read together was 'A Bear Called Paddington." My daughter loves this series, she already listened to them a bunch of times on audio, but wanted to read with me. I'm happy she asked because I never read them and they are totally a "feel good." Lots of warm feels and chuckles. She asked me to read the Wings of Fire series on my own because they are now her favorite series (Paddington has been bumped to 2nd place:) I'll check out the Ascendance series, thanks!

As a person with Dyslexia and Disgraphia, fostering a love of reading in your son I one of the most important things and it seems that you are doing that. I would recommend for the disgraphia portion getting pencils where you can push less hard and get a dark mark have been really helpful for me, also learning to type! I started to write in cursive in high school after the recommendation of my French teacher and it is so much more comfortable and easy, but as a child I found it hard to decode with my reading issues. Projects that involved working with my hands were always the ones I found most memorable.
My mom’s favorite book that she read after my diagnosis is “The Gift of dyslexia” by Ronald D. Davis. I am not sure how well it holds up but it does focus more on learning strategies, then the book you read this month. Thank you for caring so deeply, it makes all the difference!

The Percy Jackson books were written for Rick Riordan’s son who is dyslexic and has ADHD, and Percy Jackson has the same issues but they are strengths because he is hard-wired to read Ancient Greek so that’s why he’s dyslexic and his ADHD is because he is supposed to fight off enemies/be on high alert for any potential attacks. I really liked how what is supposed to be something that can set you back is actually a strength. The books are very well-researched and also really funny ( Percy Jackson is pretty sarcastic). It would be great to listen to on audio.

I LOVE Keeper of the Lost Cities series!!! I also LOVE The Green Ember Series. Read book 1. Then listen to the audio book for book 1 and book 2. Started book 3 but took a break and will have to restart it. I wish I could get my daughter (now 12) to listen to the series with me. I grew up loving Ramona and still do, but I can understand why you may not. I'm like that with Junie B Jones, although I did read it listen to them still with my daughter when she was younger. City Spies is on my list to read. I too started the Dyslexia 101 because of Sarah's podcast. I bought the kindle version but haven't finished it yet. I think the book is a good starting point but if you've already done other research or read other books then it's not very helpful. Plus as you said, it doesn't give actually things that work as you said. I enjoyed this video and hearing about all the books you and the kids read this month.

We read Keeper of the Lost Cities (after hearing about it from you) and have just moved on to Exile for our evening read aloud. We've been on a free verse kick for our daytime read aloud and just finished Inside Out and Back Again, which we really enjoyed. We're about to start Alone next.

Our read aloud for April were Ozma of Oz (book 3 in Wizard of Oz series), The Castle of Adventure by Enid Blyton, and started Gargantis (Book 2 of Malamander) which we are still reading. Btw I gave Bliss Bakery book one 1 star, I was disgusted by it. I read it aloud but I edited so much of it out while reading. I found it to have a huge problem suggesting everyone needs to be pretty, perfect and good looking to have any value, and it was mentioned so many times I lost track. Blech!!

Oh Sam just read City Spies and I don't think he knew it was a series. I just requested the 2nd book from the library to surprise him! I have only read Green Ember and thought it was okay.. I didn't love it. Sam liked it but we haven't done the 2nd one. I think we got it on audio and forgot about it.. Does that happen to anyone else? We just finished Adventures in Waffles as our read aloud. We are listening to the latest Mysterious Benedict Society book in the car and enjoying that!

Yes! I need physical books to remind me what I'm reading. Even if I'm listening to an audiobook I prefer to have the physical book of to remind me to listen

I’m catching up on videos, so this comment is super late 😜
When you were talking about mother culture, a video popped up that said “a look inside my mother cult” 😂 I know it was cut off, but it was hilarious, especially since you love books about cults. I’ll join your mother cult haha.
Claire watched this video with me, so she could see Raeca’s books. She loves Keeper of the Lost Cities too! She’s really into the Warriors Saga right now.

My oldest (6) had been enjoying The Adventures of Otto for reading practice. Awaking Wonder is the next nonfiction book I want to read. I recently finished Adventuring Together and am currently reading a biography about L M Montgomery. For family read aloud, we're making our way through The Secret of the Hidden Scrolls series and our first Geronimo Stilton book.
