Renée Fleming sings Salome's aria "Il est doux" from Massenet's opera Herodiade. This is the score's most lyrical aria and famous portion. There are a few unfortunate skips in the recording, but I thought it still worth posting as this is another example of Fleming's mastery in this repertoire.
The aria is much less demanding than Massenet's normal mode - I have posted another video which shows how extreme the writing for Salome is in Herodiade:

@@johnfox7985 Yes. It's an unfortunate recording skip. Maybe the NYPhil will release the original video again one day.
I so love what the French vowels let Renée do with her voice. Somehow there are sounds more gourgeous than in any other repertoire. Tank you so much for posting. 🎶😍🎶
This is one of my favorite Fleming performances. I saved it on an old DVR for 2 years.
So sensuous and romantic. She looks great too. I’m going to post another excerpt.

Love the fact Maestra Renée has a slightly hesitating first entrance at the very beginning of the aria. Dedication sincerity no souffleur no prompt ( well maybe some mics 🤣🤣😂😅😅)that's REAL CONSISTENT LIVE OPERA PERFORMANCE with every possible accidents mistakes and wonderful human unperfect beauties !!!!!!!

The high notes were good. The mannerisms almost creot in to some of her phrasing, and her tone wasn’t that rich or pure as Caballe in the lower or mid range or as powerful!

Not a patch on Caballe's touching and moving rendition. This is boring
