As a teenager after watching the movie Blow-Up, I saved up enough money to buy a 35mm and ended up with the Trip 35.
I own 6 of these. Love them and always buy them whenever I see them in the wild.
Use 400 neg film rate it at 320 for slight over exposure, leave on 3m or 3 people for most shots let DOF fix focus

Camera has exposure lock. Press the shutter button halfway on the shadow portion of your scene then recompose

Nice review…stay with 400 film and you are all set! This was my first camera purchased on a school trip to Buenos Aires back in 1969! I sold it many years ago and bought one again a couple years ago…the sentimental value is incredible! Be safe…Cheers
That’s so true about the sentimental value. It’s a nice looking camera with a great lens that can produce nice photos so very likely to have good memories about it.

I really like these small zone focus, autoexposure point & shoots. I have a Lomo LCA which is very similar but with a 30mm lens. Very fun to shoot, and fits in a regular shirt pocket.

Always put a 400 ASA in the Olympus Trip,
A 800 ASA will also be no problem.
If you want to meet the quality of the Trip
do a 50 ASA film in it and put the camera
on a tripod.

I like the look and spec of the DC model, I think there is an RC model also, not sure of the differences?
Pentax MX + SMC focal lengths. Trip 35 Hack: Rotate to any number off automatic setting. The shutter will snap @ 1/200th.
This review aligns with my experience, so I can say it is fair and balanced. Just to add that the asa ring is too easy to move, so a bit of dymo tape in the notch will prevent accidental change. A joy to use regardless of its limitations.

Thanks for the good info. When I start using my trip 35, I will put a 400 film in it. It is a super nice camera to see. And easy to take with you. But because I am a beginner it will take a while before I start using it.
The 400 speed film will surely prevent the blurry photos that I experienced. The Trip 35 has a really nice lens that can take great photos if the other conditions that I outlined are met. You can be pretty confident that your photos will come out good especially at infinity+

Nice review Eric, my future wife had one of these when we met in 1981. She took thousands of photos with it which I have yet to scan. I am really curious now to see how they look on the monitor.

This was the first 35mm camera I got when I was about 16 and it served me well, not the greatest but very durable and loyal till it finally started to break down
im 16 and my aunt gave me this camera, its my very first film camera what a coincidence
I have one and it is by far my most fav camera to use and hold and looks o so so cool. When im out so many people ask me what it is it generates lots curiosity and intrest. The quality of images are beautiful. I only shoot black and white through it not colour but just personal choice

Congratulations! You know, if you get everything right, ie focus, shutter speed, exposure, etc this camera takes some fine photos. I recommend in the video to just use faster ASA 400 speed film and get a hand-held rangefinder if you plan on taking lots of portraits and are particular about perfect focus. Otherwise the focus system works ok as is.
@@FilmPhotographyChannel For sure. I don't have too many portrait plans, but I do have a roll of cheap n cheerful Ultramax 400 to test it with when it's here!
“Cheap” and “Film” are two words that you don’t hear spoken in the same sentence very often these days! 😂 Good thing that’s it’s 400 speed film. I’ve had the best results personally with faster films. This camera is capable of absolutely brilliant photos.

That’s a perfect description. UltraMax 400 is a fine film. Very sharp with nicely saturated colors. I hope film prices come down soon!

Hi Jessica, check out my usage notes, ie using faster 400 speed film, etc. it’s a beautiful camera and very easy to use, especially if you’re focusing at infinity mark or beyond. Enjoy!

The two lens elements between the shutter and the film
plane have been cemented together.
The aperture has two blades'
which look like two croissants.
The shutter also has two blades.
If the E.V reaches 1/40 plus f/5,6 the AE
switches to 1/200 plus f/2,8.
How to cheat the AE system at an
extreme low EV below 1/40 plus f/2,8
when the system blocks?
Just switch to manual f/2,8.
No problem to use 800 ISO films at an overexposure
of one stop, by camera speed index at 400 ISO.
The shutter and aperture system of the Trip
and the Pen EE series are identical.
Repairing a Trip or a Pen EE is peanuts.
The Trip is the camera where batteries are not
for sale and a charger us useless.
Better a Trip in your hand than a Leica in your back pack.
A Hasselblad 500 C/M with a strap around your neck
and a Trip or Pen in your hand.

4:30 What F-Stop do you recommend when wanting to take pictures in kind of a darker environment? Because when I notice the red flag (not letting me take the pic but i want to) I always switch to 2.8 cz I don’t really know anything about shutter speed, etc… Does higher F-Stop mean its gonna let more light in? Thank you, also great video!
The smaller the f-stop number the more light the camera lets in. Also the slower the shutter speed the more light. The easiest way to go is to use 400 speed film to have the most flexibility. This camera is at its best when used in moderately bright light to full daylight. It’s just not made for low light situations.

Hi Eric, I actually had a question about the camera that you use to film these videos? Can you tell me about what setup you use.
Hi sorry I didn’t see your post sooner. The majority of my videos are made with the LUMIX G9 and the 12-60mm “kit” zoom. I put it in quotes because it’s a really fine lens compared to most kit lenses. The G9 was released in 2017 (I think) but still has better specs than the vast majority of cameras that are for sale today, ie dual card slots (both UHS-II, 4K 30p 422 10 bit internal recording, 4K 60p, Full HD at 180fps, world class 5 axis 6.5 stop stabilization, a virtual tripod mode, built in panning and can take an 80MP photo using sensor shift! It’s an absolutely loaded camera especially for under $1000 (body). Besides that I sometimes use my Blackmagic Video assist to record externally from the camera. The mic is the original Rode video mic pro. Hope this helps.
Can you half press the shutter release to lock the exposure?
Yes you can do that but remember you only have two shutter speeds to choose from.

I dont't understand how putting a fast film will make any difference. How does the camera know what film you put in? If the camera is set on iso 200 max, why would a 400 film help, other than underexposing the photos? Please helåp me understand. It sounded like Eric meant that later versions had cameras that did 50-400, rather than 40-200. What was he talking about? Then later he said if you put in a 400-fil, it's more likely the camera will shoot 200th of a second...
The Olympus Trip 35 is compatible with ASA/ISO speeds ranging from 25 to 400. Set the appropriate ASA/ISO speed for your film using the dial located on the front of the camera, near the lens.

Which one is better - this one or Rollei 35? Which one would you choose?
It’s not even close- The Rollei 35S ten times out of ten. It has a better lens, more shutter speeds including bulb a better viewfinder and superior build quality. The Trip 35’s best feature is it’s simplicity and the wonderful photos you can take with it under the right conditions. That being said I prefer the Rollei.
