Time goes by so quickly: I had this car from 2011 to 2016 and I miss it! The most fun car I ever had. :´(
Thanks for the kind words! :)
We didn't test Normal vs Sport for MPGs, due to time constraints. Sport is likely to be more thirsty, with higher shift points and the tendency to hold onto a gear (for more throttle response), rather than upshifting.
Take a look at the review video ... there are ports at the base of the dash for audio in.
Not sure on the optional Nav hard drive - if there's no USB, it rips CDs.
@MangoSmoothie16 Yep! I'll try to get it posted in the next week or so.
@Dimitri0809 Thanks Dimitri! For the record, I do appreciate dual-clutch transmissions. Very much, in fact. That's why I take the time to produce these segments. Cheers!
best review so far for such a mechanism, thanks
There's a Navigation option package that includes a 40 Gig Digital Music Server. The test car didn't have it, tho.
@adrianTNT It's to operate the tarmac, gravel, or snow modes for the transmission
The twin clutch is standard in all trims of Ralliart. In Canadian prices, the basic Ralliart is about 33k$, while the Recaro package (mine) is 37k$, versus the 39k$ starting price of the Evo GSR. For 37k$ you basically get all the options of an EVO MR, meaning leather/suede heated seats from Recaro, Nav/sat, HID headlights, FAST key, Rockford Fosgate sound system.
Not only shifting from the wheel can be made with knob also..
I was skeptical about this transmission at 1st but once i got to drive it, i change my mind. I love my car. The TC-SST is an impressive piece of machinery.
From a Ralliart owner: I would like to clarify that the vehicle is still fast with "normal" mode on. The modes just change the way the vehicle behaves transmission wise. The horsepower is still there. The car is a lot more fun and responsive with "Sport" mode on, because it downshifts aggressively so you'll lose less speeds in turns/shoulders, and it keeps you ready to go again after a significant slowdown. It does that by keeping your RPM numbers high, which keeps the turbo prime to go.
This is driving me batty. Which web browser do you use?
I've tested on a PC with external speakers, an iMac with internals, and a MacBook with internals. It's fine on both the desktops, but is soft on the laptop.
All of the tests were done with either FireFox or Safari. I don't have MSIE loaded on any of the computers.
how many gallons on a full tank? cuz i also fill my tank once a week on an older car and i dont mind it at all
Are you on a laptop by chance?
Is it possible to change the brightness of the middle display? (It was possible in the 2001 Mitsus...)
@larryadam2 i would love to see u try and chirp the tires with this thing.... ya it has fast shifts but theres more to it than just fast shifts
@louellekane The sport mode toggle is next to the shifter.
Does the SST downshift well in high RPM in sportsmode? For example, under hard braking and gearing down does it do a heel toe like downshift like the R35 GTR?
Yes, you can. Also, the people who review it don't seem to realize that you can also use the paddle shifters without pushing the stick into manual mode.
I drive a Infinity Fx-35 (2005) and my friend said its Tiptronic. I do play around with it, but it doesnt have the paddle shifters. Whats the difference between mine and this?
@MangoSmoothie16 why? depending on what vehicle (like this one) the shifts are faster then any stick shift can be but stick shifts are more fun and require more skill obviously
hey where can you find the sport mode-wot on 2009 lancer ralliart?and how?thank u..
Maybe a stupid question but would that shift boot fit in a gt
does anyone know if this is the same transmission that VW use?? the DSG?
what is its 0-60 fastest time???
the paddle shifters are a secondary option to shift with
0:53 what is that up/down button right next to SST text?
aww i like manuel cuz i like to work with the gears but i guess the twin-clutch would be the same just i dont have to do the clutch...
No, it has the Evo IX's AWD System with Limited Slip Differential.
ralliart owner....congratulations.....how much does it cost with a twin clutch instaled cuz i own an evo and i was thinking of selling it to buy a raliart cuz the evo use way too much fuel.....
so wuts the third clutch for?
Well I don't know what was wrong with the Ralliart I drove about a year ago, but I tried all of the shifting methods, and the paddle shift was horrible. Every time I would shift, it would think about it for a second and the engine would rev to the moon and then it would go into gear...But this video makes it appear a lot better...Nice review
no, it is always auto, but you can "tell" the gearbox which gear you like and you can prohibit (auto-)shifting (so the engine will run into rpm limiter).
the technologie of this automatic is more similar to manual (stick) than to traditional automatic.
Anyway: just two pedals: throttle and break
gen2 ?
are your gears slipping?
do you have a 0-60 on a normal lancer? Not ralliart or evo.
Recaro seat? Is that not an Evo?
There seems to be a bit of a lag compared to my GTI's DSG. Hard to compare though since it is a totally different beast.
I have this car and let me tell you, I never thought I would buy a Sports Car without a 3rd pedal, I went to our local Mitsubishi Dealership to buy my wife a new car (2009 Galant Ralliart), test drove this and walked out that day with two new cars, this thing shifts faster than you can shift a 3 pedal manual. Not to mention, with a Boost Pill and a ECU flash, you're looking at a sub-5 second 0-60 car, its insane.
the automatic is a diff the automatic is used with normal and sports but the clutch is used by you...the sports mode keeps the rpm high so the turbo wont stop spinning cuz the automatic usually shift at around 3-4k rpm....
When he said drive mode thats automatic right
Es normal en estos carros que cuando esta en P (parking) las revoluciones no se quedan estable en 9mil como un carro normal, en el mio baja como asta 5mil y sube ah 9mil constante mente, hace como si se fuera apagar aveces pero nunca se apagada.
So, can I drive this without myself having to shift at all?
I have a 2012 ralliart. there no time between shifts and its quick. im checking with dealer now to see if I can switch to evo x parts and not void warranty
What was the verdict?
ok if you are a true car enthusiast and test driver what do you mean by tc-sst which is available in evo 10 and the ralliart...
@NewGameReleases yeah around 5.0 sec WOT in sport mode ...not bad for the EVOs little brother.....might lean to a RA vs. a GSR since I'm lazy to push a 3rd pedal (BTW used 08 GSR are pretty cheap now)
never posted the lancer :(
so the twin clutch isnt optional??? 37k....thats alot tho cuz i bought the GSR for 38k with 240hp rather than 291 and i was hoping the ralliart cost less than 30k...
Got my for 32 fully loaded
@thweepz So it can get a faster acceleration
Also... no, the Ralliart only comes with the TC SST... no manual gearbox is available for it at all. It's not an option. Even the cheaper 30k-ish RA is TC SST only.
The 37k package for the Ralliart is VERY nice. It's not a performance upgrade, it's an options upgrade. The Sat/nav is pretty nice, and it comes with a music server of about 40-60gb. I'm not much for leather seats but those suede Recaro seats with leather bolstering are very nice indeed. Also, Canadian price, MSRP for the GSR is 39k with the most basic options. The 37k Ralliart is the top notch options package. I personally paid 22k for my fully loaded RA, because I bought it used.
It actually does provide a performance upgrade instead of the 152 hp non turbo engine, you get a 237hp turbo 4 cylinder engine with awd, it's a budget evo lol
whats your point?
so no clutch pedal????? so its an automatic car that shifts the gears by itself?
I liked this car, but I found the SST to feel clunky at times compared to other semi-auto transmissions. The 6 speeds are pretty fun to blow through though. Makes for great acceleration.
Not cramped at all!
It's easy to switch between modes, just flip the shifter to the left (manual) or right (normal).
I need a copyright free track to do stereo demos, otherwise it violates CZcams's rules.
depends on what your motives in a car would be.... chirping tires may not win you a race but it is always fun to do, which is why i prefer my manual over an auto, just for the fun of driving. i have tried the twin clutch auto and was not really entertained by it.
0-60mph in 5.4 seconds, or 5.8 for the Sportback model.
@gumper1986 AND THIS isnt possible with minor bolt ons? there IMPORT TUNERS for a reason. thats why there 30k. and if you through in another 10 - 20k on upgrades you will smoke ANYTHING.
is that stock exhaust?
+pedro rios Yup! Everything I test is stock, as provided by the manufacturers, unless otherwise noted.
@kN5ack wide open throttle
@kphillips012
you can go all the way to stage 3 for about 7-8. at stage 3 your beating 98-99% of the cars on the road
yes. its an Automatic
I will stick to my true manual with clutch, also I heard eventually sst break and it cost more then the motor itself to fix
Anything on a car will break if you don't care for it lol.
@AFinRoo .... and Porsche´s "DoppelKupplung"
I'm not a fan of hatches either. Plus it's .4 seconds slower on straightaway.
well said!
And then repair costs due to failure/damage? Don't ask, don't tell.
I'm very disappointed that this car was not offered in a manual option, 4 years straight of 9 gen ralliart and still only being offered in an automatic.
I have my 2010 Lancer gts to trade in, that is if that day comes.
It sure does! I love EVOs
well he was on automatic not twin clutch
WOW the zero to sixty on this is more than impressive. Is this even the evolution?
has the shortest 2nd gear i ever seen. i thought the g37 with the 7 spd automatic 2nd gear was short and the chrysler t&c with the 6pd auto has really short 2nd gears
just one question. why would u want a car to shift through the gears so quickly?
There is absolutely no way to use the clutch yourself in this car. When you use the paddles or the stick to shift up or down, the computer registers your input and works the clutch for you. It's actually quite different than working a clutch manually. If you try to stick the pedal on the floor and the computer is not ready for it, you'll see what I mean. The comp gets confused and suddenly drops the clutch after a moment's hesitation, which hits hard and unpleasant.
i dont like the MR that much cuz it is heavy and it carry thing i dont need like sunroof, gps, and some other gadgets i dont need. but the ralliart is 51hp down on the evo MR so can it go rallying like an evo MR cuz i like to go rallying on the weekends...
I would grab one but I mean...the transmission has so many problems and I can't find any good solutions to completely fix them.
Yeah there's a ton of problems with SST for some reason, and mechanics have little experience fixing it. Usually it involves replacing it completely.
Sir Eric Should I avoid the car completely?
If a faster car than stock lancer 2.4L engine is what you're looking for, you're gonna have to take the risk. It's not like the SST always has issues. Like a lot of things, there's a chance it can erupt with problems, but there's also a chance it can last forever. Seems like Jackstransmissions is the only place confident about fixing SST for about 2.1k, but they're in Colorado, so that's always an option if you have problems.
Easy pal rev limiter at :30 wow.
few upgrades you could have a MR and save ALOT of money
My dad had a blue one and it was fun and all until he sells it and he sold his orange candy gts and it was so fun that when am big am gunna recreate the both cars hopefully people don’t create flying cars 😪
I'm not an automatic hater, there are some good automatic gearboxes on the market... but the way the gearchange sounds and the way it feels will never come close to a manual... And that's why i prefer manuals, you can play more with em aswell...
Ive never seen a car shift this fast. that messed me up
watch a video on a r35 gtr shifting, much faster and harsher.
+Barry Barentsen A ralliart is 26k while a gtr is around 100k....
+Borntokirune what the fuck does that have to do with the speed of the shift. we werent comparing prices. you said youd never seen a car shift that fast, i said gtr, faster and harsher. the logical response would have been "cheers" or "oh cool i didnt know that"
but no, you go and compare prices.
NO FUCKUNG SHIT THEY COST 4X AS MUCH, HENCE WHY THEY SHIFT FASTER AND HARSHER.
my vr4 shifts harder than this, just a re built auto with 3500 stall, wolf v550ecu/tcu, drilled out pressure plate and c7 solenoids. and thats half the price of a "ralliart".
Barry Barentsen What's your problem? Why so aggressive? I'm just simply stating the fact that a GTR is a car we won't enjoy in our youth. so I doubt anyone looking at ralliarts can buy a GTR hence the ralliart is the fasted shifting car on the market right now.
Do you live under a rock ? Every BMW M (except the X5 and X6 M), Audi RS, Ferrari, Porsche PDK shift faster (or at least as fast) than that. And for the other guys: the Clio RS Trophy and Mégane GT have the exact same shift speed as the Nissan GTR ;)
yeah man
this isnt an evo though
@SRQshark It would destroy your GTI
Just tear out sst box, and plug 5mt box should fix.
BOUGHT THE 330 SST GSR THE OTHER WEEK, 0-62 IN 4.4SECS, NOTHING FOR THE MONEY CAN TOUCH IT
@AnTHoNyB1125 That'll happen ... congrats! ;)
@mpgomatic sweet
Mitsubishi EVO ROCKS!!!!!!!!!
I would drive sport mode 24/7
great review. although i would never get an automatic for a sports car.
Its a Dual Clutch Transmission not really an automatic. You may be very unhappy to learn many super cars and sports cars only havethe DCT as an option. Ferrari no longer even sell a car without a Dual Cluth Trans and Lambo's new model's are also only semi manual DCT, New Acura NSX only DCT. It is the future and this is coming from a guy who has owned manuals on all his cars for 17 years.
ME WANT THAT GEARBOX IN MINE!
older different kind of car
with medium throttle 0-60 in 8 seconds
what does "WOT" mean???
is this car rear wheel drive
How about a fuckin clutch with paddle shifts? That would be the bomb
