Dale Earnhardt was as dominant in 1987 as Jeff Gordon was in 1998. Earnhardt clinched the 1987 championship with TWO races left.
I agree with you BFM '87 was definitely his most successful season of his career and I believe that if Tim Richmond had lived on He would have given Earnhardt a run for his money
I don't know about everyone else, but I prefer "The white flag being displayed by Harold Kinder" over "One lap to go presented by Credit One Bank" any god damn day of the week.
Earnhardt straight up dominated that year! He was expecting Tim Richmond in the Rick Hendrick Folgers car with Harry Hyde as crew chief to bring it for real. The previous year Earnhardt won the championship but Tim Richmond won the most races and came close to taking the Cup. Richard Childress and the boys on the team made sure they were ready for warfare over the winter going into the '87 season!
Waltrip might have won the title had Junior not quit giving him good cars. Brewer admitted Junior quit giving Waltrip the stuff to win the title.
1987 was also when Dale Earnhardt earned his most famous nickname “The Intimidator”
No doubt that 1987 was Dale Earnhardt's year... winning 11 of the 29 races, including 6 of the first 8, which those 6 included 4 wins in a row.
I watched Dale race this car at LEE speedway in NH. His hood got loose and came up over his windshield blocking his view. He finished the race with his head hanging out the drivers side and still won the race. Fast forward to this past weekend at White Mountains Motorsports Park, Jason Corliss battled with D.J. Shaw in the ACT tour and Corliss' hood did the same damn thing Dale's did and he won the race by about a bumper length. Insane race and crazy that I saw this happen twice.
That 1987 season by Earnhardt was mind-bending dominance.
Championship Season 1988 Bill Elliott
1998 Jeff Gordon
Good Season 1985 Bill Elliott

Jennifer Jo Cobb isn't a bust, she's racing in her own equipment and isn't doing bad.
@@coreymarcum5728 kinda have to agree. in a sport where money has become everything and driving comes 2nd to that, ANYONE doing halfway decent on limited funds is a pretty good accomplishment.
the Oppermans from Texas will always love and miss you Dale Earnhardt Sr and we are flattered to be Blessed to be known as Dale Earnhardt Sr fans
The only one of Dale Sr's championship seasons that come close to 1987 is 1994, where he clinched the championship two races early just like he did in 1987.
Except in 1994, his biggest rival Ernie Irvan almost died in a practice crash at Michigan.
I love how many times they mentioned Harold Kinder's name on the final lap. You never hear the name of the flag man or even of Brett Bodine too much at all on the telecasts any more. It kind of adds a personal touch to the broadcast, with the broadcasters knowing all the people.
Man what memories of that season. Dale was the man and the reason I no longer watch nascar. When Dale passed racing died with him IMHO!!!!
Mark Martin 1998 - 3 Poles, 7 wins 22 top-5's, 28 top-10's and over 1700 laps led. He was a monster. Should have won the Cup if not for Gordon and a helpful rule change every week for Chevrolets (half the times the Pontiacs got the screws from the rule changes, too.)That was when Roush was killing it with Martin/Hmiel then Fenning and Burton/Parrott then Stoddard in the late 90s. As a Yankees fan, the Roush/Fenway marriage was the end for me.
Dale Earnhardt Sr ended up clinching the 1987 Winston Cup championship with a full TWO races left to go.
The closest thing to Dale's start in 1987 was Harvick this year, which is the first that comes to mind but still doesn't quite compare to his (Dale won four straight and Harvick only got to three). Dale's start and season was monstrous.
Gordon in 97 I belive maybe 98 won 5 of 6 out the gate.... I think Mark Martin ran 2nd to him in all 5 also and Gordon ended up with 13 wins that season. Dont get me wrong 3>24 all day but Gordon had a hell of a season
@@roycejones9742 Earnhardt actually compared Harvick to himself and hand picked him to replace him after he retired
Nice to see the pit crews in jeans instead of fire suits and helmets really was a different time in nascar
Hell yeah brether Earnhardt !!!!!!!!
Dale Earnhardt Sr had three Winston Cup Championships with Wrangler and four with Goodwrench
11 wins. Finished 2nd 4 times, and 2 of those 4 he led with either a lap or two to go. Dominated Atlanta in March... should have won but ran into mechanical trouble the last 100 miles... only if he had a little more luck, Dale could have legitimately won 14 races...but luck gave him wins at both Darlington races, Martinsville in the spring, and the all star Race.
Nascar Busts: Reed Sorenson
Nice to know I am not the only one who thinks he was, I also think David Reutimann, Landon Cassill, Matt Dibenedetto, David Gilliland, Juan Pablo Montoya and Trevor Bayne are massive busts tbh, and AJ Allmindinger is heading that way
And we all know which race he didn't have the points lead for... Daytona 500

These cars and the ones of the early 90s are the best looking cars that ever hit the track. They even had the best sponsors at that era. I miss the tobacco sponsorships that used to be
I'd imagine he would have lead the entire season had he won the Daytona 500.
Now that was a true championship run.
I love these background music, J. Cole has such amazing songs!
You should do a series called championship caliber seasons, in which a driver has a fantastic season which could’ve won a championship in other seasons, but just falls short of the title. Mark Martin in 1998 for example.
You mean a “Came as Close as You Can Get to the Title Without Winning It” type of season?
Tim Richmond burst on to the scene in 1983, not ‘86, however Richmonds best career year was ‘86
I Can't Argue With You, This Was One Of Earnhardt's Best Seasons, We Miss You Dale.
This man is the best ever.
Best driver ever
Richard Petty by all rights is. The Wayne Gretzky of Nascar and Dale would be Mario Lemieux
Earnhardt Gordon or Kyle Busch it’s between them three they are the greatest i’ve ever seen

Both Martinsville,Richmond, Dover and Rockingham races and what would later turn out to be historic events.
I was extremely fortunate to have seen those races along with all the great drivers and teams from that era.
BFM, glad you listened to your biggest fan lol. Tim was going to win at least one championship. Those cars are in my opinion the best looking ones. I have a couple of 1 64s of them and they look as incredible as they look in picture of them. Awesome video BFM
Championship Seasons: Dale Earnhardt 1986
I lovd and miss DALE EARNHARDT and he rocked 1987 Big Time 😎 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
Excellent video. Thanks
I agree. Definitely Dales best season.
It was not only Dales best championship year in my opinion it was the best championship year ever by a driver.Won almost half the races and never finished one out of the top 10 and showed the world several times how he was the best driver in the world and solidified him as the intimidator. It doesn’t get better of a season then that
He actually finished outside the top 10 in 5 races this year, has 24 top 10s, there was 29 races in 1987

See that you have good taste in music. 👍
You should do a video on Harry Gant .
Had Tim Richmond not lived the lifestyle he did, he probably would have given Dale a run for his money.
Which season was more dominant Dale Earnhardt 1987 or Jeff Gordon's 1998
can you do any xfinity championship seasons? If so a William Byron championship season would be cool.
How about a series called weird seasons where a driver wins a ton of races but has lots of bad luck and big crashes
Holy shit when he gave an interview in his car I just cannot see the lack of space a Hans device fills up, it just looks so empty, and no headrest just a metal plank, I mean I know they wear helmets but don't you want a bit of cushion for your head after you get smashed forward and slam backwards? It's a tragedy, he really was and probably will be the greatest racer Nascar will ever see.
I want to but anold 80's race care and get it street legal. Them things looked so good
You Should do a Good Seasons or Gone too soon on Tim Richmond

Raise hell praise dale!!
This was by far his best year win wise and average finish. I think those teams they had in the 80’s and 90’s with RCR was the best of all time. They won on all types of tracks against hall of fame talent. Had it not been for North Wilksboro in 1989 with Ricky Rudd and a bad summer months in 1995 highlighted with a bad crash at Michigan he could’ve won the title those years.
Yas! Dale Earnhardt

Great Seasons: Kyle Busch 2008 (Cup and Nationwide)
In terms of win count and average finish, definitely, although the margin he had over the runner up was bigger in 1994. That year, helped by the accident that ruled out Ernie Irvan, he beat Mark Martin by 444 points (despite the fact that he only scored 4 wins and had an average finish of 8.0). I guess another part of the reason for the extent of the gap was because of the distraction the Tyre War between Goodyear and Hoosier
Just imagine, if not for an ignition wire, Earnhardt would have won seven races in a row. In the race the ignition wire shorted, Earnhardt had the dominant car by a wide margin.
The music is mixed far too loud in this video
this dude was the man
Wide open 4 barrels,,no Res plates yet. That would happen in 1988. Love the sound, and the drivers miss the driveability. Now, it's just Lego blocks all clustered together into turn 1. Earnhart had some strong SBC motors back in the day.
Also, in 1987, amazingly and unbelievably, not one of Dale Earnhardt’s 11 victories came at Daytona or Talladega.
Championship seasons Jimmie johnson: 2006-10
‘07 was a good one, 4 wins straight not to brag to Gordon fans... I feel like that should come first.
Jimmie Johnson would last long in the old days somebody would've kicked his ass
Bad/Championship seasons brad keslowski 2018
12:46 just saying no offense or nothing but I think you said GM Goodrich
The thing I wish internet fans who are critical of the sport would listen to when the announcers talk is this. Not saying that there isn't things that need to be fixed, but how many times did they say "only 3 cars" or "only 4 cars" on the lead lap? So people complain that the races are boring...how boring do you think it was in 1987 and in those years regardless if someone dominated...it was very common for there to be 10 or less cars on the lead lap.
Bad seasons: Ryan Newman 2006
He had the championship sewn up by April

Tont Stewarts champion seasons if you have to pick only one then ofc his 2002
Michael Belcher 2011 was better since he clutched so many wins in the playoffs to advance
And people are mad at Harvick for winning 3 straight this year. They'd be cheering out of their ass at Dale Sr's 4 straight wins. Hypocrites
Those mid 80's early 90's cars where the best and I always picture NASCAR was.
