See I always thought of the song Fairytale of New York, Probably bc of the Music
IN SAYING THAT THO the song isn’t historical, Although it is a good song that I hope will go down In History
RIP Shane McGowan
You’re an inspiration Dave 👌🇮🇪☘️
Song of Dawn and Kathleen Largey need a mention sometime.
i can understand your free state perspective what is the most importen irish songs is diffrent to northen part of ireland . songs like Provos lulluby or Blackwatch . The list can make long songs from the the northen Ireland perspectiv.
Kinky boots
Kinky boots extended version
Kinky boots orchestral version
It’s really not that popular or common to hear here. I like it don’t get me wrong but its significance isn’t really remarkable
@crappypoopyfr
wait, there is an extended version? anyone got the link?
@@heyheyhophopthere’s also the Ibiza chill out version
@@Rebellescum oh gawd, have to unsee now
Fields of Athenry - tells of a terrible injustice. Sung it all my life.
I'm surprised I had to scroll so far to find this
Also a great choice
@@RowdyBrian17 I think it could be a generational thing.
Injustice 😂
Low lieeeee
3. Amhrán an bhFiann
2. Óro sé do Beatha bhaile
1. Come out ye Black and Tans
Dude come out ya black and tans is such a great song
@@sarahholden8814 i know right!
I had Foggy Dew with Come Out Ye Balck & Tans as a 4th
@@sarahholden8814fr
Come out ye Black and Tans is a stolen orange tune😂
In Mexico we love the song "Saint Patrick's Battalion". Thanks irish brothers in arms, we lost, no comparison to give a fight, but still, gracias !
Don’t loose hope in Mexico St. Juan Diego bless this country and the people. May they return to blessed Our Lady Guadapule. God bless you all!
🇨🇮 💚💚🇲🇽👍🙂
I like "The Soldiers Song". Also what about "The Wind that shakes the Barley"?
you need to go El Salvador on your cartels
It's tight but The Foggy Dew should be on there
Finnigan’s wake is the most historically significant🗿
Black and Tans is pretty cool too
@@MojangOfficial783 why, because of Joyce? Doesn't really come close to the historical importance of Skibereen, an dórd feinne, grace, amhrainn na bhfiann, fields of athenry, the valley of knockanure, etc. Doesn't even make the top 15 of historical importances really, unless there's something about it that I'm missing?
Foggy dew
The craic was ninety
I played Oro Se do Bhetha bhaile as an ensemble with two trombones (I'm the first trombone), a trumpet , tuba, and snare drum and got ones at ensemble contest. I'm now in love with Irish folk music.
Haha amazing. Love that!
My favorite we all learned it in school .would love to hear your version 😊
🍀
@@silvergirl2847 I wish I would've recorded it I've now lost that score because of some chaos in the last weeks of school (our band director got fired)
Tomorrow belongs to me? That's a Nazi favourite perhaps the IRA bigwigs sang it on the U boat during WW2.
1. Come out ye Black and Tans
2. The Foggy Dew
3. Horse outside
Thank you for including the national anthem, even though you listed it third
I agree
The Drop Kick Murphy's turned "Fields of Athenry" into a song of defiance, and it gets me everytime.
My lovely horse? Anyone else?
Fanfintastic an absolute masterbloodypiece, I have enquired where I can purchase the sheet music for this rose of songs in a bouquet of mediocre weeds.
Thank you! Finally, someone speaks the truth!
Is it never of the air
F*ck Your Subaru, I've Got A Horse Outside by the Rubber Bandits
True
Hearing Sinead O’Connor singing number 2…what a spiritual experience!!🙏RIP Sinéad
Dude, The Foggy Dew.... If we had to replace Amhrán na bhFiann I'd choose The Foggy Dew without question. Sinead O'Connor's version just solidifies it as the quintessential Irish song in my humble opinion.
Personally I think the best version which strikes with passion is Lukes Kelly's
For me it should be the national anthem instead mo chara..The longer version that mentions 7 tongues of flame..
the young wolfe tones foggy dew is brilliant
Luke Kellys is better imo
Yes Luke Kelly's version is great
I think my list goes something like this:
1. Rising of the moon and variations.
2. Garryowen.
3. And any song made by the Wolfe Tones or Irish Brigade.
"Go On Home, British Soldiers," should get an honorable mention.
“Don’t you got no focking homes of your own”
My man looks like he hasn’t slept the past millennia 💀
Nah, that's just how people from Kilkenny look.
Or been to a decent barber
He be a weepy-eyed lad!
Nah he's just irish. I look the same, plenty of Scots-Irish DNA from usa 😂
Looks Irish indeed
1 - The rising of the moon
2 - Oró se da beatha bhaile
3- Four green fields
Love your choices @davyholden, the other two listed here are so special too. I think these are often forgotten.
Great choices! 👍
Great choices!
Kid on a mountain
@@davyholdenwhat about zombie by the Cranberries, it is one of the most known Irish songs and explains a tragedy caused by the Irish Republican Army
In no particular order
3. God save ireland
2. A nation once again
1. A soldiers song
In America "Dear Old Donegal" is the quintessential immigrant tune. It's not specifically about Irish history. It's about being successful in America, but being homesick for Ireland & dreaming of going back home to Ireland to share their success w/ loved ones. My grandfather loved this song. I would listen to it w/ him, but the entire time I didn't realize what it was about & that he must have been homesick himself. Broke my heart when I finally realized what the song was about, but by then he was gone.
Dún na nGall, or my old Irish home as I know it as because I'm now living in Scotland..
Thank you for sharing your memories. I think your Grandfather would be proud to know you are remembering him. 🤗 🫂🇺🇲
Thanks you so very very much for this video, it made me start to cry. The music jusy punches me in my heart. I'm a Wilson, I'm a 5th generation Scottish American. However, before my mother passed away in 2000, she told me to find my cousin's in Ulster. It will make me proud to find my Wilson family in Ulster. ThankYou, Regards, Donnie Wilson, Ulster Scot.
relayives on Ulster
-Oró, Sé Do Bheatha 'Bhaile
-Foggy Dew

There are many more I would love to put but these three always stand out to me but on top of these songs I also like to listen to songs such as Irish Volunteer or the Boys That Wore The Green as they remind me of the contribution of the Irish people in America long live the Green Flag of Erin and a free Ireland
In Argentina we love the song to the Admiral Brown 🇮🇪 🇦🇷
@@benchilton1391 no, is because like the Irish we face whoever comes to fuck with us no matter how big or powerful they are, we also reject imperialists

Cowboy song by thin lizzy is better
Theres a old Irish song, sung by mothers during the Anglo-Boer war (1899 - 1902) where mothers sing about wanting the Boers to beat the English, and be free of tyranny, but knowing that the cost of the Boers winning would be the lives of Irish sons forced to go fight the Boers who never did anything against the Irish for the English....
As a Boer, I always believed there was a kinship between the Irish and Boers of South Africa.
Thanks to the people of Orania for removing the Irish Monument from Brixton ,Johannesburg to Orania for safekeeping as it was neglected in Brixton and they wanted to develope the ground on which it was situated.
Rising of the Moon, the Clanceys version kick-started the folk revival in the 60s
Sean o riada.. Mise Eire... should be our national anthem..
As an Irish guy, can confirm, love from Ireland!
I also like come out ye black and tans
1. The Foggy Dew (The Young Wolfe Tones)
2. Whiskey In The Jar
3. Follow Me Up To Carlow

They're all away doin the double!
Was just thinking the same
As we are now watching our country, being decimated, thank God for this young man.I have always loved my country, and I am devastated.I kissed the ground at Dublin airport long before the Pope did.💚I used to be so emotional seeing Ireland from the plane, through the clouds as a teenager coming home from London, that fellow passengers would shed a few tears with me.
Oro se is definitely a classic. Ive never heard of the song Grace before. I love Song For Ireland, although it wasnt written by an Irish person. 🇨🇦✌️
I live in Pennsylvania and I am German, Italian, and Irish which is what majority of people are here. Nice to find a channel about Ireland
You're American.
@@kinglionkayce I’m an American citizen and born and raised here yes, I’m ethnically German, Italian, Irish
Even don't people don't know it yet, a song called "Eire" by the band Gombeen could be the most
prophetic Irish song ever written.

As a Russian singer, touring with an Irish dancing show in Australia 😅 - my two absolute milestones are "Goodbye, Johnny Dear", and, of course, "My Lovely Horse".
The spark should be number 1 if we keepin it 100
You can tell how important #1 was because of how much time was dedicated to it
It's the national anthem of Ireland
@@FootballPsychoPS3T yes, you too found my joke funny, right?

My grand daughter, Gracie, is 4. I have told her Grace O'Malley stories at bed time her entire life. I bought a biography on her life recently. My son (Gracies father) had no idea she was a real person. He thought I'd been making all these stories up. I was stunned
