Awesome vid Sea Lord! Yay Wisconsin, my home state!
I had the privilege to tour the Missouri in Pearl Harbor years ago, so awesome.
Thank you Sea Lord! Loved the vid.
Your channel is highly underrated.
You really deserve more subs and views.
Thanks dude!
Agreed.
Yay! Finally it's uploaded!
I have toured her before back when I was stationed in Norfolk on CVN75 USS Harry S. Truman. I forgot how spacious Wisconsin was. Her library was bigger than Truman's. Truman's library was also where the Chaplain was located. When I was onboard (20 years ago) the library had maybe 6 or 7 desktop computers that you to had reserve time slots on. It was super small, and always crowded. The internet connection was so bad that a lot of times just sending a simple email home took a lot of time. A Nimitz class does have a much larger galley. Two of them in fact. One forward galley, and one aft. The aft galley always served an actual meal, and made to order omelets in the morning. Whereas the forward gallery had Burgers and fries on the port side, and cold cuts on the starboard side. I usually ate at the forward galley because the lines were much shorter, and it was right by my shop. I think overall the battleship built in the 40's probably offered a better quality of life than the modern nuke CVs today. Crazy.
Only the USS New Jersey was activated for Vietnam. The 4 Iowa classes were activated during the 1980s under President Reagan's Naval force increase to outspend the USSR and for more projection of power. Under the National Defense Act of 2006, the USS Wisconsin and USS Iowa must be kept in a state in which they can be restored to active duty, although the have been stricken from the roster and are being used as museums, because of the gap in Naval Gunfire Support for amphibious operations. Those "tubes" you pointed at as "Tomahawk Cruise Missile Launchers" were actually Mk141 quad cell launchers for the Harpoons. The Cruise Missiles on the Iowa Class (TLAM) were fired from the big rectangular launchers which raised up which were called Armored Box Launchers (ABL) which were the predecessor to the Vertical Launch Cells which are on ships today, as the ABL systems which raised up have all been phased out.
If you want to come and audit my class sometime, given your interest in Naval Warfare based off of WoWs, I would be glad to admit you. If you don't want to travel to East Central Texas, I suggest picking up a book on the history and function of Naval weaponry.
I enjoyed watching this video. Thank you.
North Carolina's self-guided tour is great. The time I went to New Jersey it wasn't so great, but maybe it's changed. There was a mandatory guided tour included, so entire groups were taken on board at the same time, but then you went off on your own.
You guys should definitely hit up on the North Carolina in the future. Such a lovely ship to see and explore!
I've been to the North Carolina and New Jersey. The New Jersey on a whim by driving across Pennsylvania after visiting Gettysburg. It was a busy day, close to 20 hours between leaving home and getting back home in Virginia. I hope to get to the Wisconsin in the next year. I doubt I will ever get to the Missouri or Iowa, though I would like to. HMS Belfast is a good cruiser tour if you get to England.
Muh home state
Virginia or Wisconsin?
Sea Lord Mountbatten Cheese girl
Now just imagine over 2,000 people crammed up in that ship 😂
This ship was of biggest battleship class Iowa, as for its the twin of Iowa and Missouri but ship is great and I hope to see more from it
You need to go see the USS Lexington when it cools down some
My wife would never drive 16 hours to tour a warship.
stflaw guess I’m a good sister huh? Lol
Wow he knows it all about ships
I took the guided tour aboard the Missouri. Was worth every penny. You definitely missed out
I was operating on a tight budget already and couldn't afford the extra $60 for my sister and I to take the guided tours
If they ever have to bring these back I’m enlisting in the navy
I did not get my not notification today @SLM? maybe me but just saying.
Is the bell icon on?
Where’s my jump shot bro >:(
Every time I went there they didn’t let anyone inside
You really need to slow down and keep your camera steady. We got dizzy trying to follow this.
wonder if the video will get claimed for the random music in the kitchen and whatnot
Hasn't so far!
The computers where they played solitaire during down time.
Love the Wisconsin, but this video bouncing was too much to watch. Sorry man.
I mean, there's not much more I can do on the budget that I have
17:08
I live 15 minutes away from the battleship
VA beach?
@@_cobraah no it's in Norfolk Virginia about 40 minutes away from Virginia Beach
Ah yes my favorite out of the Iowas, big wiskey… all I have to say is.. temper temper 😏
But they started. it
Don't appreciate you guys touching everything on the ship. Learn to respect your History better!
Oh my how spoiled we have become in this modern age of technology. People complaining about a lil cam shaking 😂.
I could only watched this until the 3 minute mark sorry as the erratic and unfocused camera nearly made me ill and lack of knowledge off this Iowa class Battleship made me cringe not to mention your counterpart trying to lift the anchor chain/cable.
