The stomps are legendary, and the melody is perfect. 1987 Barry is gorgeous in this video.. His beautiful voice is mesmerizing, but Robin's "Oh Girl" knocks me off my chair.
Mo's garbage can lids in his garage creation aka the stomps lol. Which the record company hated and wanted them to lose 😄
Robin could say "Oh girl" to me any time and I'd come a running! His alternating "I'll be" with Barry was terrific too.

Extra sensory perception. They all had similar thoughts and goals, especially the twins. When Maurice and Robin were born Robin said he panicked because he didn't know where his twin went for 35 minutes! They were fraternal, not identical twins, looked very little alike and Mo was an extrovert and Rob very much an introvert. They did have ESP as twins. Robin was in a severe train wreck when he was only 17 and had to pull out mangled dead and injured bodies. Over 50 died. A rail came through the window and missed decapitating him by inches. He never got over it until the day he died. After that he became very aloof, introspective and somber while he had been a hilarious kid before that and that was reflected in many of his songs. When that happened, Mo was miles away and said "Something has happened to Robin!" They would even get aches and pains at the same time. When Mo got suddenly ill in the US and died, Robin felt the same pain before knowing his twin took ill.
The record company wanted the stomps in this song removed but I think that is what catches you right away. Love Robin's and Barry's alternating "I'll be" and Robin's "Oh girl" ad libs in the song. Barry sang lead in this one but Robin's ad libs MADE the song!

This is another song that came to Barry in the middle of the night and woke him up from his sleep - and he went searching for a recorder so he wouldn't loose it by morning...
Yes, Mo and Ribin are fraternal twins, born 12/22/49 - Christmas babies - Robin being born 34 minutes before Mo. Funny thing, even though they aren't identical, it appears Robin "stole" a vertebrae from Maurice! Most people have 5 lumbar vertebrae, but Robin got 6 and Mo got 4! Lol (Rob stole the majority of hair follicles, too! 🤣)

I have a picture in my head of Barry, running around barefoot (don't know why - guess just because Miami would be warm), opening every kitchen drawer, stubbing a toe or two, and then eureka, finding a cassette. It's a good thing this one was a great melody to work with. I laugh when I have heard Mo talk about some of the tapes they heard next morning, that weren't so great. I'm imagining myself singing a little tune made up from a deep sleep. Not a good picture. LOL
@@belindastoltzfus7029 No, Barry and Robin both have talked about Barry waking up with some of the melody and not being able to find a cassette. He found a tape, got what he could remember down and talked to Robin and Mo, and they decided to pursue it and finished the song. Mo put the stomps together in his garage - not the song.
@@janicetrimmell6897 - They all learned it was a good idea to have a tape recorder handy so when inspiration struck it wasn't lost. Sometimes it was good and other times not so much.
@@janicetrimmell6897 I just watched an interview yesterday. Barry said maurice came up with the beat in his garage and called Barry and Robin and they wrote the song together. Not debating, I heard them on the interview
That beat is so iconic. You know the song before they ever start singing. And gives me chills. No one can bring it like the Bee Gees. I request that at some point you do Massachusetts with Robin in the lead. I just adore his voice.

The Bee Gees played this live for Princess Diana when she was still married to Prince Charles. She loved this song! They even scanned the audience and show her jamming to the song. Other artists were there and sang as well. You can find it on CZcams.

When they recorded this in 1987 the Bee Gees was still hit by the Disco Backlash that started in 1979 with the Disco Demolition Night.
So it did not do well in the US but went to number 1 in the UK and other places in the world.
The stomps is an important part of the song and when the record company said they liked the song but would like the hard stomps removed the group said " The stomps stays or the song will not be released", the group won the argument and the rest is history for this song. The stomps immediately tells you which song it is.
And I'm so glad that's the case because I LOVE the stomps (actually, they're not stomps, they're Maurice slamming some metal onto concrete lol iirc). The 'stomps' just make it hit perfectly.

There are actually NO DRUMS in the recording! Mo created the "stomps" in his studio!! This was Princess Diana's favorite song! Love it!! The ponytail was for his upcoming movie I think, Hawks. Love it too! *ESP = extrasensory perception :)
ESP stands for extra sensory perception, or being able to tell when something is going to happen or being able to read a person very well, etc. The title track of the album is about a man feeling he has such a special connection to the woman he loves it feels like ESP, they can communicate telepathically, etc.
I'm a hard nosed rocker, but this is one of the best songs to sing along to while stamping your feet. Awesome. :)

This was in 1987 from the E.S.P album. This was after the disco revolution and they had taken a break from recording and were coming back with a different sound and slicker videos. You need to listen to the High Civilization album from 1990 for more different sounds.

I LOVE this one. Should have been a bigger hit. They performed it live at the Nelson Mandela tribute and it was a wonderful performance especially with the wind blowing Barry’s hair around. (But Maurice was always my favorite with or without the fedora.)

@@reneperez2126 yes, it reached #1 in the UK and other countries. I should have been more specific. It wasn’t a hit in the US but should have been. The disco backlash continued in the US and robbed us of great songs like this since it didn’t get enough airplay.
I wish people would stop slammin' these guys for being a Disco band. Like Barry said ,it was the movie and the times that made them disco, not their music. They just played love songs you could dance to.The first part of their career ,they were as big as the Beatles and their later love ballads were the best. Just a super group . :)
