Cinematic intro gave you way too much info. Would have felt so much better to learn about the ncr and legion, from character interactions. Rather than from a narrator.

The literal emotionlessness of the first scene was horrible to watch. "It's nothing personal.. it's bad luck" as opposed to the iconic "Truth is... the game was rigged from the start.."

Cut content aside, I just love how Bethesda swept New Vegas under the carpet because they can't handle the fact that this broken, rushed, and unfinished game still managed to still become superior than both of their fallout games combined. At least in my opinion.

@@brandishaccount5439 I don't hate FNV. But people treat it as a masterpiece. It was supposed to be a spinoff game but Obsidian got too ambitious and shot themselves in the foot. The best part of the game, the writing, is by a man who now condemns Obsidian and has vowed to never work for them again. FNV is an unfinished mess that got most of everything else from the framework of Fallout 3. I'm not a Bethesda fanboy, i dislike both Skyrim and F76, and FO4 to an extent. But what POs me is when people try to apply that to Fallout 3, one of the best games Bethesda put out and a labor of love from Todd before Zenimax turned the studio into a cash printer at the expense of quality. Fallout 3 is just as good as New Vegas, and i'm really tired of people bandwagon hating a great game made by developers who loved their jobs just because it's what everyone else says.

Her actress did a fucking amazing job, but I'm also really glad the Fiends didn't get dialogue. Characters like Cook-Cook being reasonable people that could be talked to for any reason would not only would be wildly out of character for them, but also would humanize these characters who do such gruesome and needless acts against random people and that would be borderline tasteless.

the legion are far worse than the fiends in terms of needless cruelty- for example, the slave collars.
there are many characters, even outside the legion, like Raul, who justifies the legions actions,
and even worse- there are characters like Cesar who is shown in a human and sympathetic way in some case.
the best example for this, in my opinion, is the ending in which you sell arcade to Cesar. this ending makes you feel incredibly sorry for Cesar.
the game definitely humanizes incredibly cruel people.
besides, several dialog options with Betsy do humanize the fiends- even if a little bit. and motor runner is certainly reasonable- he is willing to trade, and he is much more intelligent than other fiends.

Blame the company for giving developers the damn timer so they won't spend their money to help them produce.
Seeing all of this really makes ya realize just how ambitious they were with this game even though they had only 18 months to develop it. Imagine had Obsidian had a full 2-3 years to work on New Vegas.
Every game is super ambitious. Fallout 4 and Skyrim had hella content cut mostly because of budget cuts and crunch time.

When New Vegas first came out, it had a lot more glitches than 3 did. So that likely affected the score.
That bit from Mr. House about the Courier having a grandiosity complex was HILARIOUS when you consider the fact that House himself has one of the biggest grandiosity complexes of all time.
That's very in line with his character, considering how much he projects on others. His dialogue about the Brotherhood of Steel is basically him being pissed off at his own reflection.

If we cook it, Bloatfly Slider is a pretty good healing item, and survival skill is more important than medicine in my hardcore experience

Practically the problem with Fallout:NV, a junkie dressed in rags tries to mug a known killing machine dressed on military grade armour and carrying experimental high tech weapons with a pool cue.

It would be interesting to see AI programmed to not try their luck when your gear value is higher than their group's gear value, but for most games it would just mean that 95% of your enemies run away from you by the end. Or try and attack you with extremely overwhelming force. In one scenario the average gamer will be bored out of their minds and in the other it would mean you'd need to do the running away instead.

I took all 37 you can hide behind one of the electrical columns and Elijah will walk right past you and leave the laser door off, then jsut sneak through, that also give you the ending where Elijah gets trapped in the Vault and you can hear him over the radio.
There are only a couple things I really want from this cut content:
1. Brotherhood of Steel faction option
2. Setting the animals loose in the Thorn
3. Violet's dialogue (and non-hostile fiends)
4. Victor avenging House
5. Game continuing after Hoover Dam (and being able to switch alliances still)
6. That cute part where a securitron shows you the Strip in the distance
7. Finding the thieves who stole Vance's gun
8. Forgiving Benny so often that eventually he stops running and thinks he can take you on
9. Rotface
10. NPCs doing push ups
You can find the thieves however you cant turn the gun in to primm slim

21:06 The interesting thing about the drill sergeant and recruits is that they were in the original version of the game when it first came out, I remember seeing them. They were patched out in later versions to make room for DLC.

any mediocre dev can do fallout new vegas with all the tools and systems created for F3. What they can't do it's the writing/adaptation and that dude doesn't work at obsidian anymore, he made horizon zero dawn and now it's working in it's sequel.
I mean, yeah that's not a bad wish. Though better yet would be if Bethesda had gave them all the time/money they needed to totally flush it out, as well as let them develop a sequel to NV.

They can still do writing just fine, and some of the old writers even came back to Obsidian for outer worlds. Plus Josh never left Obsidian and was one of the main devs for Fallout 2, Van Buren, and NV. Josh is the dude who made New Reno, and was the lead dev for Fallout NV. He was key in both Fallout 2, and NV. He also has done great writing/directing in POE 1& 2 and Tyranny.

I'd love to see Obsidian remaster this, with cleaned up graphics, some of the cut content added back, dialogue tweaked, and all downloadable content standard with it. I've been playing Fallout since it first came out. This is the best Fallout, in my opinion.

This is so depressing. 90% of this stuff is fantastic, and it’s so sad it’s not in the game. All of the anti NCR stuff would’ve been amazing to have as a way to make the NCR look less like the typical “good guys” :(
They already are tbh, if you look into it more then what the game shows you that is. Talk to people and read logs about the ncr, the only ones who think they're the good guys are the ncr themselves

They commit actual atrocities (like at bitter springs), they invade people and force them to comply with their laws and often deal with resistance with violence, and their government is overall actively and brazenly imperialist. Yet, despite all of that, they genuinely see themselves as the good guys; and you can’t help but agree with them. You brush all of those things off as necessary evils or justified engagements for the sake of the NCR’s continued survival, that still doesn’t make it right, yet that doesn’t seem to matter. The justification simply comes from the fact that the NCR must survive, simply because it is the NCR. It is YOUR establishment; it gives you a sense of familiarity with what you currently live under. You as a player don’t feel comfortable condemning them in any concrete way because that would be equal to condemning your own government, and to entertain the idea of siding with something else is an even bigger condemnation.

@Joe well, you can still clearly tell he's insane, if it's not the outfit and his choice of words. I feel they gave him a dead voice on purpose to make him feel more sane. Personally, Cook Cook and him are the only relatively sane ones. All though Cook-Cook and violet do show how violent he is, but his violence has nothing to do with his sanity, other than the fact he might be on a mix of psycho and jet.

A lot of this cut content has been implemented as intended by obsidian into mods for like, the better part of this decade....where have you ppl been? If you check your Pip-Boy journal logs in the 'misc' section you actually receive a note that is sent to every other Rob-Co device that details a memoir about his death - the funniest thing being that it's actually just a draft with some unprofessional notes at the very end. But yeah, everyone basically gets the message that he's passed away.

The fiends (as well as vipers and jackals) are a genuinely intriguing yet criminally underdeveloped faction. They are one of the most realistic portrayals of a ruthless raider gang that would emerge in the wasteland. It's a shame in the vanilla game they are reduced to mere fodder for the courrier and are seldom interacted with in that one Khan delivery job.
That rotface murder scene could have been the perfect wild wasteland encounter: "I WANT THAT HAT!!!"
what's funnier is that in the base game, thugs really will just walk up to npc's and shoot them to death, like what happened to Grecks in my playthrough. The Thug even took his tire iron.
I think it would have been really Wild Wasteland if you paid 100 caps for a tip, he's about to say it, and then "oh what's that behind you? Looks like someone else wants to speak with me!" and then he just gets murdered and the thug takes his hat.
I wish a lot of this had ended up in the game.

You can talk to the Fiends in the final game, it's just difficult to pull off and requires wearing a certain outfit (I think Great Khans). No one does it, so they miss it.

well, some of it was justified. violet's dialog was pretty awful, and the Gomorrah 3rd floor woulda made that casino even more confusing. I believe the final Benny encounter was cut because they wanted an option where he wouldn't die.

They helped Obsidian all the way though New Vegas production, made all the post-launch patches and still talk with Obsidian employees like they are in good terms.
