    Good Beginner Armies:
    Stormcast
Khorne (New book is out! They look like a pretty straightforward melee army with cool Blood Tithe tricks, should be a solid one for beginners!)
    Maggotkin
    Slaves to Darkness
    Ogor Mawtribes
    Ironjawz
    Normal Beginner Armies:
    Daughters of Khaine
    Fyreslayers
    Deepkin
    Kharadron Overlords
    Sylvaneth
    Beasts of Chaos
    Skaven
Slaanesh (New book is out! Lots of tricks and tech, but they look solid.)
    Flesh-Eaters
Bonereapers (They got an update where they get to play the same game!)
    Nighthaunt
    Soulblight
    Gloomspite Gitz
    Kruleboyz
    Savage Orruks
    Bad Beginner Armies:
    Lumineth (Complex)
Seraphon (New book/models on the way!)
    Tzeentch (Complex)
Cities of Sigmar (New book/models on the way! Some models may even get removed.)

As someone who is brand new to Warhammer, Warcry and TTG’s in general, I’m very happy to hear the two armies I purchased (Maggotkin of Nurgle and Slaves to Darkness) are great for beginners. The more I read, the more synergies I find out about the two. Very excited to start painting and playing next week!
    Thanks for this video!

I thought this video was really cool. What might be a good little series would be like a "Where to Start" with each faction, like a brief overview of their ideal play style and some examples of what would be some good purchases to make to start a 1K army with that faction (also a good place to have some product links to the store site in the description/pinned comments). Another one that would be good would be a similar style video with suggested paint/ hobby supplies. I see lots of posts online about people interested in the hobby with absolutely no idea where to start, so that could be a good niche to explore, at least at first.

That first point is absolutely the most important. It's why I eneded up going with Deepkin as my first army, because I just love my big turtle. Do I win a whole lot of games? Not really, I'm honestly not the best player when it comes to remembering about objectives. But it doesn't really matter as long as my big turtle gets to be on the table and chomp down on a few enemies as a treat.

I'm not a beginner but I recently have been having a bit of a new experience in AoS. I started with Legions of Nagash, Daughters of Khaine and then Slaves to darkness but once I started painting skaven I found I love them and I can't stop painting more.
There is something to be said about an army you love. I can look past any flaws and I want to make things work and try to optimize because I just love my little rats. My normal philosophy with gaming is the more simple and straight forward my army is, the better I can focus on the objective and board. Skaven are not like that at all but my love for them is so great I might end up changing the way I play to something much more cunning with teleporting, spells and risky maneuvers.

Skaven are okay for a beginner; not the best, but not the worst. They're my favorite army by a mile, but they're also pretty frail and swingy; you have to put them in the right place at the right time and pick your fights carefully (as well as not blow yourself up). Running 40 Clanrats is the popular move in most lists and metal models don't bother me at all, I actually like a lot of the old sculpts, they've got character! Fingers crossed they're next on the range refresh list though, seeing GW kill it on all these new Seraphon sculpts gave me high hopes for the future!

    • @warpfireminis
      @warpfireminis  Před rokem +2

Sons of Behemat are a very good army right now in my opinion! You'll have a little bit tougher time with battle tactics since you can only achieve 4 of the regular ones; you'll have to build/plan for doing one of your book specific tactics, but they're so good at denying objective control and denying opponent's battle tactics that it's usually not a problem. You can definitely bring Kragnos in for the 3D6 charge and a little extra damage output, but to excel with Sons it's really all about staying out of combat, picking your fights, and maintaining control of the objectives for as long as you can; if you just charge in you're going to lose more games than you win.

      1. Soulblight and Daughters are solid for beginners. Sons of Behemat are a weird one; you can do really well holding primary objectives and outscoring opponents, but you aren't the most killy. Then there are some matchups for them that can end up feeling hopeless, so it's not somewhere I normally steer people for their first army.

Hi. I know this comment is quite old, but I would like to put my two cents in.
I, personally, would say go Beastclaw Raiders. Sons of Behemat play quite differently than the the other armies, so if you want to get another army you will need to get used to a different style, if only because of the likely drastic difference in army size.
I do, however, see that you play Knights. I don't know how similar they are, but you should have some experience playing a low model count army.
      In short.
I would say go Beastclaw. But if they jump out to you, then Sons would still be a good choice.

Nighthaunt can be a little tricky for sure. There's a lot to keep track of, but that gets countered by most of the army moving 8", almost everything saving on 4+, 6's to hit auto-wounding, and so on. I wouldn't put them on the easy list by any means, but they counter a lot of what the meta armies can do so they can still compete in games without being super heavy hitters.

Die easy, cant hold objectives , can push stuff off objectives. Bad magic and top of that the models l initialy bought were the ones l liked. Imagine my suprise after spending 500$ and painting 1200 points of stormcast infantry to find out that sacrosancts and evocators are real bad. Wouldn't advice anyone to pick up stormcast eternals unless they don't care about fun playing . Double so , if they can't quickly rebuy an army.

Right now I wouldn't call Sylvaneth a beginner friendly army. You normally have fewer units than your opponent so you need to be really careful about positioning; if you lose a unit it really hurts. Then on top of that the playstyle is just very technical, you need to make the right decisions on where to charge, where to teleport, where to fade away, and so on while also being light on bodies for holding objectives.

    Why not Sons of Behemat?
    1. You are not learning the game, you learn big monsters stomp hard and are unkillable.
    2. No fast, small battles available to you. (these are the battles you need WAY more than 2000pointers)
    3. Good luck finding anyone that, on the regular wants to play versus your 3 titans AND up to 9 giants.
    4. This IS a tournament army, so everybody that wants to play against you, WILL bring their A-list. Not caring you are a beginner.
    5. Get a second army on the cheap... for learning the game and actualy playing it on the regular. Take an alied army of the 'grand aliance destruction', so you can sometimes get some giants in the thick of it. Then curbstomp them with your 'not SoB' big'onz.
