Great talk! Knowing what doesn't work is a huge time saver.

He's off by a few conferences; Joey was voted best speaker at HHC 2019. The video announcing the best speaker of HHC 2023 will be published on November 10.

Pity we can't hear audience contributions - something to consider for next year

Neither mic I had for the audience produced usable audio, even though I tested them beforehand. When editing the videos I tried to turn up the volume when the audience was speaking but missed some places. If you turn up the volume in those two short places you should be able to hear. I also subtitled this video so you can understand what is being said by reading the subtitles as well.

I've been thinking about a way to make keypads using PCB art techniques. This is already quite common using two PCBs in a sandwich with the lower one providing the mounting and circuit for tactile switches and the actuators protruding through holes in the upper board which has no circuit, just PCB art legends for the switches. Using reverse surface mount switches such as RT3301AF260Q from E-Switch (available from usual electronics distributers beginning with 'D' - sorry my posts disappear if I include a link), this can be achieved using just a single PCB with the circuit on one side and the PCB art legends on the other. I've not found a PCB supplier willing to use more than one colour silk screening, but you can get a second colour, gold, by using plated copper and you can also select the colour of the ground using the solder mask layer. Of course, no legend on the button itself, but there is still a good amount of space around each button hole.

All during this I was overcome by the feeling that there is some profound meaning to the process of emulators within emulators.

When it comes to keycaps and labels, I've been looking at water slide decals.
Custom decals can be printed, BUT trying for white text (on dark keys) is a major pain in the backside. You need a printer with White toner, which is both rare and expensive.

I've seen someone recently using UV-curing ink to print on plastic. Can't remember who it was but I think it's a comon process that could be worth a try
