Elder scene/screamo's lived and died by the sharpie/paint pen. We'd make our own "band" shirts, our own tights with patterns, and we'd do our nails and (sometimes) a bit of our makeup with them. I don't know a single person from the peak of scene-era fashion that bought hollister stuff, but I know that started popping up as we got older and had to dress like normal people again. Also, anything is a choker if you're brave enough. We used to braid shit like shoe strings and ribbon to make them and hair bows. a big thing was making thumb holes in long sleeved clothing too. Never got into the beads deal but in my area we had more leather and lace stuff with chunky accessories. I adore that the fashion is coming back.
@@TombNGloom get a cheap pack of solid color or striped tights and either distress them for the ripped look, or some people I knew would use paints or markers/sharpies to stain them and create patterns (worked best with white tights). those going the extra mile would dip dye or paint them with cheap Rit dye. Sooo cool to see scene coming back! As someone born in late 1996, when scene fashion was a thing in the 2000s, I was a bit too young to participate in it, but I always admired it from afar and the outfits are so colourful and creative. I love the black/bright colour contrast and the mix of dark and cutesy elements. Not sure if I personally would do the typical scene haircut or dye it, but I love the clothing and accessories, so I'm glad to see it coming back!
I am turning 30 this year. And yes, you have the look down to a T. 😍 One thing: perhaps this was a Salt Lake thing, but back in the day, Hollister was extremely popular among the preppy kids. In more modern terms, the alternative kids thought that Hollister (and its fellow summer-in-Cali-stereotype stores) was only for "basic" girls. That being said there was a lot of bleed through and crossover in fashion at the time. My local scene was definitely inspired by Japanese punk and street-style. We were more like Anime-inspired-emo-pixie-vampires. Also, in retrospect the "mainstream" girls had the same silhouettes as the"freaks," just a different color pallet and brand logo.
Hahahaaa! I’m a millennial woman who wears colored pants/jeans still lol. I promise it’s mostly for work though. You’re videos randomly popped up in my recommendations after going on a scene music binge. But wow you are taking me back to the good ole days before adulthood ruined me ha.

A huge part of scene is kitsch, go to a flea market and you're bound to find something that fits the style. I live in Poland and stuff like shirts with tiger and leopard prints on a rainbow background is very easy to find if you know where to look.
this comment is old, but I live in Europe too and there's an online store similar to hot topic called emp. I buy a lot from there, and even though most of the stuff they have there is more emo/goth/metalhead you can find some things that could definitely be scene! for example they sell a lot of band merch, I bought a pair of black and white striped stockings there, they have knee high shoes similar to converse... etc.The only problem is that it can be expensive sometimes and the shipping is long. I also customize or make a lot of my clothes. I painted a checkered pattern on my converse and added colored shoelaces and got a little of compliments on them! I also make all of my kandi (I use perler beads but it works anyway). I bought a pair of black skinny jeans (they're on a lot of regular clothing stores) and ripped them by myself. Also you can get fishnet stockings pretty much anyway Hope this helped! 🖤
Do you potentially have any advice for more male-centeric scene stuff? A lot of talk of scene fashion is more female-centric, which kinda sucks but yannow, makes sense since there are generally more scene gals than guys.
It used to be studded belts, black skinny jeans, statement zip up hoodies, black nail polish, and some metal accessories. Well, mostly same as for girls but I distinctly remember black skinny jeans being a thing. Oh, and black or white slim fitting shirts (mostly short sleeved ones) with red skinny tie.
Literally thank you so much for this, I love your channel so freakin much!! I’m 19 and goth, but I’ve been trying to branch out and try other fashions/subcultures and haven’t known how to do so
I loved it when Sears and Gordman’s had colored skinny jeans on clearance. Now, I rarely ever find colored skinny jeans. I outgrew all of mine except for my Joker jeans. I have picked up two pairs of red plaid skinny jeans which look pretty scene.
Yup 10 years ago when I was an emo /scene kid . We were poor so most of me and my friends only had a few basic pieces. We had the same converse and bangs for 2 years and when we had a bit of money we spent it at hot topic buying accessories and belts and 2 good band t shirts . Aghhh I'm an elder emo kid now 😅
i found pink skinny jeans, this black belt with pink glittery stars, and black and pink cheetah print skirt at thrift stores, which are like my favourite clothes i own. i love thrift stores so much omgg
Wow I just love your personality and attitude (I mean that in a positive way!!). You’re just so well spoken and creative. Absolutely love your content!!!!
My mum always gets me some type of pastel or colored skinny jeans and shorts over the years and i didn't know what to do with them but now I do and thank you for the tips definitely did help :)
It’s cool seeing emo style today!! I love the style still but am more into Lolita fashion now. When I was a teenager tho I was very much wearing the emo aesthetic. Back in the day it was sort of slim pickings and my wardrobe was small.
I would also recommend back in the day when I was in highschool in 09 we would cut tank top the at the back bottom we would make rip then stretched it so it show the back of the low rise then yeah just put holes on black shirt then neon bra’s monster necklaces and purple and black stripe zip up hoodies and verry tight low rise skinny jeans and the wedge sneakers or converse and white belt is definitely the way to go
I was more into punk, but anyone remember when we used to sew our pants into skinny jeans? I used to have to do it all the time because not that many stores were selling skinny jeans yet lmao
Unfortunately "thrifters", as they so call themselves, of started going to thrift stores and taking the good clothing from them whenever they can afford to go to Walmart or the mall they are just taking all the actually good clothing out of like Goodwill and whatnot and then leaving people who can't afford Walmart or the supermarket to trashy clothing that was being used and given to the Goodwill because they accept that where I am. It's sad because it makes it to where I can't find clothes that I need but it also makes it to where I can't find clothes that fit in my style because they're really only taking the good clothes that fit into specific styles and it's really upsetting. :(
Also I would like to add that well I know tight fitting clothing was a big part of seeing emo fashion I personally feel that there are a lot of people out there who don't like clothes that fit tied to them such as myself and while everyone has their personal reasons for me is personally because of the fact that I am transgender and I'm not allowed to have a chest finder so being seen would be kind of hard in that sense but I feel like you could make it work and you don't absolutely have to buy form-fitting clothing I don't feel like it is an exact necessity I feel like it would just need to match the style of design not really the style of tightness ^^
Just wanna add as a tip for thrifting-- it's better to go to a local thrift shop than Goodwill. Goodwill pays their disabled workers as low as 22 cents per hour... I wish I was joking. Also! If you want your jeans (or really anything) to be black but they're not, consider dyeing them black!

Man this brings back nostalgia feels… back in 2010-2014 I was a scene kid and honestly one of the best times of my life
Do you potentially have any advice for more male-centeric scene stuff? A lot of talk of scene fashion is more female-centric, which kinda sucks but yannow, makes sense since there are generally more scene gals than guys.
It used to be studded belts, black skinny jeans, statement zip up hoodies, black nail polish, and some metal accessories. Well, mostly same as for girls but I distinctly remember black skinny jeans being a thing. Oh, and black or white slim fitting shirts (mostly short sleeved ones) with red skinny tie.
Literally thank you so much for this, I love your channel so freakin much!! I’m 19 and goth, but I’ve been trying to branch out and try other fashions/subcultures and haven’t known how to do so
your videos make me feel so happy and comfortable!! i am guilty of rewatching some just while i do every day things
I loved it when Sears and Gordman’s had colored skinny jeans on clearance. Now, I rarely ever find colored skinny jeans. I outgrew all of mine except for my Joker jeans. I have picked up two pairs of red plaid skinny jeans which look pretty scene.
Ok wait I’m definitely too young for my teen years already coming back.. 😂 Now I miss my MySpace Account...
i remember 2014 is emo teen me but originally i think it start from year 2006 ?
Yup 10 years ago when I was an emo /scene kid . We were poor so most of me and my friends only had a few basic pieces. We had the same converse and bangs for 2 years and when we had a bit of money we spent it at hot topic buying accessories and belts and 2 good band t shirts . Aghhh I'm an elder emo kid now 😅
As a new scene kid with sensory issues, I can't wear jeans so I wear flare trousers instead!!
i found pink skinny jeans, this black belt with pink glittery stars, and black and pink cheetah print skirt at thrift stores, which are like my favourite clothes i own. i love thrift stores so much omgg
LITERALLY i always find the cutest things at thrift stores, i found two mlp plushies last time X3
@@yote333 i found a pair of glittery converse at a thrift shop but they were too small for me
@@yote333 our thrift stores dont usually have plushies
or anything at them, its either dvds or clothes
my scenemo phase was a long time ago but i wanna still have some of it back in my wardrobe so i'm rewatching this :]
Wow I just love your personality and attitude (I mean that in a positive way!!). You’re just so well spoken and creative. Absolutely love your content!!!!
honestly im new to the scene but i wear black but my accessories are so colourful. :D it looks super duper kyute o3o
for all my uk scenekids, a thrift store is literally a charity shop :DD
been binge watching your videos for days!!💜love ittt
I actually just learned about the scene style and music genre and I’ve fallen in LOOOVEEEE with it. Thanks for these tips!
„I don’t need to tell you why. Look it up” is exactly the reason why I subscribed 😌
My mum always gets me some type of pastel or colored skinny jeans and shorts over the years and i didn't know what to do with them but now I do and thank you for the tips definitely did help :)
Acid milk is a beast username
I really love how much effort you put into this video 😄nice job 👌
Perfect amount of comfy in front of a camera. Ur doing amazing sweetie
THANK YOU for mentioning that scene kids and e-girls are two different things
It’s cool seeing emo style today!! I love the style still but am more into Lolita fashion now. When I was a teenager tho I was very much wearing the emo aesthetic. Back in the day it was sort of slim pickings and my wardrobe was small.
Your voice is so soothing also great vid it’s sooo helpful
I would also recommend back in the day when I was in highschool in 09 we would cut tank top the at the back bottom we would make rip then stretched it so it show the back of the low rise then yeah just put holes on black shirt then neon bra’s monster necklaces and purple and black stripe zip up hoodies and verry tight low rise skinny jeans and the wedge sneakers or converse and white belt is definitely the way to go
I was more into punk, but anyone remember when we used to sew our pants into skinny jeans? I used to have to do it all the time because not that many stores were selling skinny jeans yet lmao
I wanna be scenemo/scene so bad and I'm sadly don't have much money to spend so I'm hoping this will help
My sister was born in 2006 and gave me most of her clothes, now I'm trying to be a scene kid
The collar/necklace is so cute!!
I’m starting to realize I was a scene kid before I even thought I was these are all things I used to want to wear
I found a creeper jacket from 2016 at goodwill in perfect condition AND my size!!! i was so happy omg. i wear it every chance i get
Unfortunately "thrifters", as they so call themselves, of started going to thrift stores and taking the good clothing from them whenever they can afford to go to Walmart or the mall they are just taking all the actually good clothing out of like Goodwill and whatnot and then leaving people who can't afford Walmart or the supermarket to trashy clothing that was being used and given to the Goodwill because they accept that where I am.
Also! If you want your jeans (or really anything) to be black but they're not, consider dyeing them black!
i love u. we all needed this omg thank u
9:01 the string is VERY durable and works really well btw
I’ve always been obsessed with the style and I finally have the money to kinda dress up but this will help a lot
This so really good advice thanks
I already love your personality
*wear tight fitting shirts* me, a chubby person: i dont think i understand XD
SWAGGG fr though ur right i like the ultimate factor is either all in the clothes/accessories or all in the hair lol
Boutta make notes and walk into school with a scene outfit, I'm already the "weird kid", so might as well roll with it!
WAIT I LOVE YOUR PERSONALITY OMFG
