- 'The Scarborough Steam Special' rail tour (1Z75) with LMS Jubilee Class 6P 4-6-0 no 45699 'Galatea' seen in this video at Doncaster then York on Saturday 17th May 2014.
The rail tour ran from Skegness to Scarborough.
I can't believe these events are now 10 years old (it is the 17th of May 2024 today). I haven't been watching this particular video, LMS Jubilee No 45699 'Galatea' - The Scarborogh Steam Special - York & Doncaster 17th May 14 for that many 17th of Mays now but I do like to do it once a year on this day. I love York in a profound way and have a bit of an interest in trains (although not too strong - I couldn't tell you every nut and bolt of the Flying Scotsman, for example). Like with the Double Steam Heaven video, it's great to hear the train's noises reverberating throughout York station. Thank you and happy anniversary to these events and may there be many more.
Thanks very much for your comments. Time really does fly and I am pleased you like the video of 'Galatea'. There's nothing like the sight of a steam loco under that beautiful York Station roof. Its a delightful city to visit and always a bonus seeing a steam excursion visit the station. Best regards - Allan. 👍
This has got to be one of the most beautifully balanced and designed locomotives I have ever seen. Everything from the tapered boiler to her lines and driving wheel diameters...so beautiful, and the sound she make...bloody awesome! I'm searching for a 5" gauge live steam of her for my office display.
I must agree with you about the Jubilee steam locomotives. A beautiful design and very pleasing on the eye indeed. My favourite British steam locomotive. Many thanks for watching and commenting.
Regards - Allan.
Cracking shots on a smashing day Allan, love the sound under the canopy plus the smoke box handles had vanished between your first and second shot.
Thanks very much Stephen for viewing and for your comments. The handles going missing is very unusual, I can only imagine they worked themselves loose maybe. Cheers - Allan.
I remember we could always quickly realise the distant approaching engine was a Jubilee class by the distinctive shape of its funnel, It reminded me of a proper toff a top 🎩. Though I can never remember seeing one in scarlet, they mainly where, but not all green, though at times they where so grimely, it was sometimes hard to know. It was a class I never managed to underline all of they were so numerous but nevertheless popular at least among my friends. Maybe the fact that it was so hard to complete made them so welcome to see, there was always the expectation it was a cop.
I was fortunate enough to see the Jubilees in BR days but only the last few remaing in the mid 60s. Great locos with those massive driving wheels and pleasing appearance. Many thanks for watching the video and commenting.
Regards - Allan.
Wow, brilliant watching Galatea pull way from York. Also the sound was fantastic.
+Steve Rowe Thanks very much for taking the time to watch and to comment Steve. Much appreciated.
Regards - Allan.
I liked the bit at the beginning - "And now for some important manners..."

Good one Allan - A powerful Loco, but not suprised she struggled to pull that lot out of there.
Cheers, Bob.
Thanks very much for watching Bob. Yes it was a hefty load for 'Galatea' today. Nice to watch it doing its job. Cheers - Allan

Super video Allan !!! :-)
Thanks you very much :-) Cheers - Allan.
The day of the MACHINES, the raw power, totally orgasmic, haw one can explain it to the none believer, not just the locomotives, but the ships, the plains and the cars that we use to make, they were for rich or famous , but they were an art a useful decor , now we make large plastic soap holders and call it TOYOTA. TH
I very much agree with your sentiments Krystian. Built to last and durable over many decades. We are lucky in the UK to have many preserved examples of steam locomotives that we can still run on the modern main line railway. Thank you very much for viewing and for your interesting comments. Best regards - Allan.
Great video Allan, well captured, you must have put your foot down from Doncaster to catch her again at York, job well done, thanks for sharing, cheers...Bill
Thanks very much Bill. Thankfully the steam loco took the long way around to get to York and took on water in between so I was able to get ahead of it before it arrived at there. Cheers - Allan.
Would have loved to see this one..but was helping our crew get Ollie ready for the Main line shortly..!
Thanks bugalugs661 for the comments. Be nice to see Ollie back on the mainline :-)
Very nice. Thanks.
Thanks very much :-)
Nice footage again Allan at Donny and York. The Jubilee sounded suburb as it set off.Couldn't make the morning special but got the A4 in the afternoon....Trevor.''
Thanks very much for your comments Trevor. It was indeed a lovely sound from 'Galatea' and a beautiful morning in sunny Doncaster and York. Cheers - Allan.
Great footage Allan and nice to see Galatea back in action. Your sound really came through on the departure from York - a nice throaty roar off the Jub! I've been thinking for some time now that the chimney on Galatea doesn't quite seem right - a bit flattened looking when compared to Leander and others. Was your tripod acting up? It seemed to be giving you problems with sticking. Thanks once again. Ken
Thanks Ken for the comments.
It was indeed a lovely departure and a fantastic sound. Interesting comments about the chimney. I will have to look that up.
I didn't use a tripod Ken so I think the sticking is the result of me trying to manoeuvre myself into place and get between the bodies on the platform and do the best to make a smooth pan and zoom while twisting and turning in a low position while following the train movement. Not good at all for these ageing knees :-) Cheers - Allan.
good video of 45699
Thanks Andrew......pleased you enjoyed it. Allan.
Excellent Loco Allen .:-) Ulli
Thanks for watching and commenting Ulli. Quite a regular this steam loco in the UK since its rescue from the scrapyard and restoration to working order.

Lovely to see...especially as its my Dad driving! Where else would he be on his 45th wedding anniversary!!!
Thanks Stu and that's really nice for him to be driving on his wedding anniversary. I hope he has had a great all round day today. All the best from me to your Dad and for the good work he does. Regards - Allan.
Thanks Allan, hes just passed another anniversary too....52 years service, and still loves every minute of it. Thanks to quality video clips such as yours, in the future I will be able to show my grandkids what their Great Grandad did :-)
Stu Coupland That's an amazing achievement of 52 years service Stu. Well done to him on his loyal service to the railways. I am pleased you enjoy the videos too and it really makes all the filming even more worth while when I see such nice comments such as yours. Its something I enjoy doing a lot. Best wishes - Allan.
Sounding great arriving at Donny. Nice to see County of Essex out as well, 12 coaches plus the Brush is a heck of a load.
Thanks Andrei. There was a lovely sound to the steam loco today both at Donny and York. A good load for it to haul as you state. Allan.
i was going to see that but got the times wrong
Hope you catch it another time Rhys.
