The sad part is just how they almost 100% exclusively covered the environmental aspect of this tragedy in the news when it happened. I say this because until this movie got me to look into it some more,I had absolutely no clue that there was even so much as a papercut and a trash can fire let alone explosions and loss of life. I had seen NOTHING WHATSOEVER on the news about that part.

He’s been through fires, work mates being killed and he him self has been injured. I can tell by Mike's response to Mark's question about something being done differently, quickly giving a pat answer about evidence being under the sea and giving Transocean/Halliburton/BP the benefit of the doubt, he might have been threatened by someone with retribution if he says the wrong thing to the press. There has to be much more to the story and to his feelings than just that. He also uses a performative "I have to tell myself every day" to preface his answer, which betrays that he has much deeper feelings or other information that he is not sharing in this interview. He may be under a gag order.

Of course, he's probably got a lot of deeper feelings and thoughts on the whole disaster, but again, that is not the point of this movie. So why even focus on it, especially when there are dozens of videos here on youtube alone that focus on said "conspiracy narratives".

One more disaster in a line of disasters that should never have happened, at all. Greedy company men cutting corners because they don’t want to spend money, and innocent people die. Deepwater Horizon, Bhopal, countless air crashes, Texas Oil refinery...

I was working offshore on an oil rig at the same time this accident happened. And for the same company, although in Brazil. At that time, every yank (sorry, calling someone a yank is not offensive in Brazil) on the rig knew someone that worked there. There was a feeling of loss among the ex-pats, and that feeling went on for the rest of our tour. Oil rig workers deserve a lot more credit than they get.

Somebody has got to do the dirty work and put their life on the line so the rest of us can live comfortably. If you are not part of the solution please don’t be a part of the problem and that include complaining. Invent something which you think is viable and sustainable or else shut the hell up!

Like a slightly larger emphasis on safety? A little fewer profits? This was more than just an unfortunate accident.
A series of safety compromises and straight up mistakes were made, even accounting for the unprecedented circumstances. Rules are often written in blood and many in production seem to forget that.

Making a film about a disaster like this doesn’t mean you need to donate the proceeds to victims or anyone, the filmmakers are making a film. The company responsible for rushing and being negligent causing human harm is responsible for fully compensating victims and/or jail time. Any move to give the money to the families from the film would just be a kindhearted gesture, they’re not entitled to all the media money surrounding the disaster

Mike Williams was a paid person on the movie set, he was there the whole time. That's why he's in this interview with Mark. None of the other survivors would speak to them at all, BP intimidated them all into silence. All the rig survivors got big payouts in settlemets with BP and transocean, with those who died, their families, getting more than any other party. Mike got paid from that, and from the production of this movie.
