12 years later and still Obscura’s Magnum Opus. Flawless album
I want to say Diluvium is their best, but statistically speaking I come back to this album the most so it's a struggle for me to pick between the two.

One of the best technical Death Metal Albums of all Time!
after Necrophagist, of course))
@@ibayazitov diluvium is better than all necrophagist albums if you would ask me
@@akin519 you're to young , sorry)
@@ibayazitov .d sentence made me sad
Necrophagist may be Obscura's "grandaddy", but Obscura have become the masters...
This is just such a beautifull work.. the brutality, complexity of music and philosophical meaning hided in those amazing lyrics.. I'm trully in love with this album. That's a kind of music that i would like to create someday. True amazing technical/progressive death, with maybe a little pinch of clean vocals.. And respect to the bass.. ooh my God. Every instrument is just clearly hearable, and nobody is aprecciated less than the other musician. Perfect album guys!!
The only problem is the sound of drums
@@peppefrasca5179 ???
I hope you've been able to make progress towards your goal of creating this kind of music!!! If you ever do you should upload it or a link to it to your channel I'd love to hear :)
@@peppefrasca5179 and the vocals (listen to the ending part of Ocean Gateways, from 5:07 onwards. It hurts hearing this bc I know exactly how it feels doing it the way steffen does it. The pain in one's throat is absolutely disgusting, it's so sad that some people lack the proper technique so they fuck up their voice so much (just listen to the latest Obscura Album. The drums on that are sick though, David Diepold is an insane drummer))
I remember I bought this album because I thought the album art was cool. Now it’s one of my favorite albums of all time. How cool is that?
Agreed. IMHO, one of the best death metal albums ever made.
9.5
No words of how amazing this record can be... Obscura guys has set a SUBLIME standard for technical death metal.
Our huge congrats to your work and amazing musicianship, Cheers.

Ode to the life... the cells... the evolution of everything...
The continuation of The sound of perseverance
I have just listened to this album for the first time and i am mindblown. This is the first time i woulg give a album 10/10 on the 1st listen. The atmosphere is unreal and musicianship insane. Perfect blend of technicality melody and brutality, words cannot describe how good this is. I gotta check out theier other stuff
dude check out also alkaloid which features muntzner and grossman from this album headline! you will love em even more, my moneys on it!
I'm gonna see them in 2 weeks. I listened to all their discography, and this is their best album, IMO.
did you see them ? how was it?
@@danknormie4986 2nd time. Good. Great.
Yeah it's definitely the best one.
Ocean Gateways sounded like a kickass villain theme.
BERSERK!!!!
The best morbid angel song never written
Yes, sound a lot like a Morbid Angel's track
In my opinion this is what you get if you mix death and cynic this is the first time I heard this. Shots awesome
A bit of Necrophagist too!
+AigreSonge yeah because Christian Munza used to play for them ahah
im a necrophiliac
Don't forget Grossmann did too.
Listen to Gorguts' album 'Obscura' if you haven't already,. That's where the band name comes from
Everyone needs to hear this in their lifetime at some point
A genuine master piece
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘you forget how good this still is, man they'll be enjoying this in 500 years, "classical music" 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Masterpiece
thank you for this album. cheeses crust what an amazing listen

Very underrated good shit!, shame on people really..
+Ömar Wally most metalheads dont know this album its fucking stupid
Metalheads only listen to slayer and REEEEL METAL They're too busy to be aware of the surroundings
+Ömar Wally Nah. Just people that dont put in tyhe research effort to find what really appeals to them most musically. Most I imagine anyway.
Great stuff. I can't decide which Obscura album to purchase.... They are all unparalleled.
Perfect.
great album, great riffs
One of the greatest albums of all time.
Still my favourite even after 5 years
Same. It’s 2019 and still my favorite.

5. Prismal Dawn
Behind those halls yonder, above the caliginoous enigma
Where soul and spirit unite, there lies buried everything I have
Where we left the quiet sanctuary that united us on this side
To be separated for aeons, enchained in eternity
I lost you when I am chased away yet again
Yet your feeble remnants adores them
I am torn away even from the area of ground that covers you
Which was the very last thing I had of you
I lost you when I am chased away yet again
Yet your mortal remains rest peacefully and purely
Whatever part of this earth will retain them
Passing the world beyond, I'll be with you
This is our heart, our mind, our conscience
Our soul no longer belongs to us
Returning home to eternal freedom
Begin a new course, ennoble our essence
In the latter we find one law and one purpose
A purpose that can not be from this world
Beyond abyss through which blackness shines in
Behind those halls, where soul and spirit unite
There lies buried everything I have in the Prismal Dawn
great from start to end
Fantástico
Masterpiece 😈👌
Best album of 2011
Reginaldo Edson Carlos one of the best album of all time IMO
akroasis is better
Idontknowone1able It's good yes but I prefer Omnivium
Akroasis is mediocre compared to this. The reason why is Hannes Grossmann.
Reginaldo Edson Carlos destroyers of all
3. Ocean Gateways
I consider our Earth as a part of the lowest area
We live as we were at the bottom of the sea
Where nothing is pure and undespoiled
Where everything is eaten and eroded
Where the grips of externality is unable freely
To emerge beyond a certain space of this one
Where nothing is pure and undespoiled
Where everything is wet and salt
Where earth and spirit unite
An opposition to the visible
A call of the purified souls
Emerges beyond, breaks free
Deliverance - an acroamatic halo
Deprivation - in particular obedience
Eclipsed - shackled and torn apart
Emptiness - devoid of heart and soul
9. Aevum
Where profound souls shy away from self fulfillment
We stroll in silence through this universe
Where abysmal pansophy wallows in deepness
To enjoy the bliss of a fractional existence
The holiest necessity of inner being is not a law for nature
In nature even divine necessity takes on the bleach animosity
To keep our inner being free of this contradiction
With the irresistible force fore of a terrible necessity once present
Those who are ashamed to start from the earth
To climb up from the creature mankind
To draw those thoughts that are beyond
Earth, fire, water, and air
Void Dimension - as man stands here on earth
Void Dimension - as flash of eternity
As man stands here on earth in this life
As flash of eternity that enlighten this gloominess
Portraying this progeny of their soul as enigma
Devoured by its own will, unbounded, inevitable
Wherever one thing reaches into the other
Neither of the others can leave
Each requires the other
Velosity solo is incredeble!!! Great album
Listened...love it...on my way to the shop to buy the real deal (this and the other Obscura cds, I mean). Over and out!
Thanks very much
Pretty fucking awesome I just love everything about it.
Came for the metroid, stayed for the metal.
41:28 Beautiful, like Orbital elements
Them Dissection harmonies, even the vocals reminded me Nodveidt \m/
Then Thulcandra should suit your taste! Same vocalist, Dissection tribute project, basically.

@@glassguitars hell yea Dissection V2.0 with their new album 🎉
Technical perfection!👌🔥
I think this is the best second wave of techdeath album ever, even better than Epitaph and Onset of Putrefaction, I've never thought I'd say this but it's true, Necrophagist has been a big inspiration for me and a bigger influence than Obscura but this album it's really the absolute peak, maybe it's the more melodic approach to it or the progressive not only harmonic minor kind of soloing that makes it so great, also the clean parts are memorable and unique, I even think it's better than the classic of melodeath Slaughter Of The Soul and other great second wave techdeath albums like The Aura.
Definitely a top10 album of the past decade
Ocean Gateways reminds me of MA´s god of the emtiness (Obscura actually plays it on their first album retribution) in a good way, because at the same time i hear the unique siyle of Obscura. The part starting at 9.50 for example is incredible. Since two years i try to understand and the only thing i got is that the first half of it is counted 16 and 15, a 31 so to speak (if i got it right). That part is high tech metal! Cheers from Sinzig between Bonn and Koblenz
@@chopholtz4950 If you were so much better, you would not need to pick on someone like me. Give some proof and explain the part! Or better, post a video were you play it on drums! Or what instrument do you play? Btw. you are not only insulting me but also Obscura, by calling the part small and easy to figure out.
7. Velocity
This is the end, where everything finishes
What will be revealed in silence
This is the end, where each secret disappears
Fragrance of the dead, redemption of the weak
Those who arise despite ourselves
Where the left hand path begins
A fragment is pushing through, enforces my memory
My mind has been swaying for some time
Your sign, suggesting a pale remembrance
Where everything finally disappears
This is the end, where everything finishes
What will be revealed in silence
This is the end, where each secret disappears
Fragrance of the dead, redemption of the weak
Between the worlds, where the one merge with the other through them
Where the growth of an external world amalgamate into a spirit truth
Where a transition occurs within death and salvation
You'll see the whole, the whole of the undivided one
At a stage where you'll lead delightful
The one that is fallen awaits frightful
Masterpiece!
6. Celestial Spheres
The inclination will become naught
When a justifiable longing is accorded to it
Within the magnitude of the object
For the gain of an everlasting truth
Amalgamation will be scorned by both
When there is a whisper of faith
Within the halls of eternity
For a wish of silence in the black eclipse
Light and vision, day and night, will break free
A night like day and a day like night embrace us all
Our wishes find their final resting place in us
A moonlit night touches our inner being
...and makes a shudder run through our flesh
A night like day and a day like night embrace us all
Our wishes find their final place
When our mind disappears into a sudden
Shuddering movement and leaves behind in his soul
A painful longing for its survival
Light and vision, day and night, will break free
very,very,good.......bravo.
This shot my fucking balls into space ! Amazing.
GEEZUS What an Album !!!!

Nunca escuché nada igual a esta banda. ¿De donde sacaran la inspiración para hacer las letras?. Where they get the inspiration for the Lyrics? This band is amazing, never feel this with other bands.

The dude that played that solo is the vocalist of Alkaloid and Dark Fortress LOL
thats florian (also known as morean).

rings of saturn does similar stuff
That solo is also is sped up. Guys came out and talked about it in a interview.
Wow. Adding jazz elements. Hate to say I just discovered them. Second only to Spawn of Possession.

The first arpeggio too reminds of crystal ann
wow this songwriter pretty amazing like some wise priest
There were multiple songwriters on this album
Ocean Gateways are very similar to a Morbid Angel's "Where the Slime Live", in my opinion
Their first album sounds a lot like Morbid Angel.
@@markshampine1528 their first album sounds more like necrophagist
@ Mark Shampine I take it your refering to Retribution album I totally agree has that Morbid Angel sound indeed!
@ User Userovich I take it your referring to there second album Cosmogenesis which is the first of there four album concept? I totally agree certain songs like Universe Momentum has that Necrophagist sound to it!
As I was listening to it, I thought the same thing.
As a whole this album is epic, romantic, tragic and ends in heaven but in valhalla or rather artistic type of heaven
the intro reminds me to "everlost" from In Flames.
amazing tech death metal
nice
8. A Transcendental Serenade
In deepest depths, at the dark side of a burning star.
By the dully shining black sun - the dance of the dead.
Prismal Dawn is the best song because of the bass player.
The last song, reminds me one of Blind Guardian songs
This video gets a dislike for putting a Burger King ad in the middle of the Velocity guitar solo but this album rules.
Why don't we have more clear vocals like the ones on Celestial Spheres?
31:31 *_______*
2011 holy fuck that's a long time ago, wow
41:07 FUCK YES DUDE, THIS RIFF 🥵
They are like the modern Death. Not popularizing death metal but they have a VERY similar style and soumd
Later death, that is
Yeah, that seems more accurate.
+RagingRogue29 If so, it's either accidental (on the main composer of this album's part) or because the frontman WANTed you to think this is like a tribute band. Hannes and I focus on more what makes this album stand out from anything that came before it tbh I think...
Zyborggian Either way, its fucking awesome. Cool vids btw
oh? ty :)

I hear Cynic and Dark Tranquility, but nevertheless this is pumping.
Did you notice Mahavishnu Orchestra?
I hear death, cynic, necrophagist and even a little bit of gojira but the solos are unique as hell. Its my 2nd fave album of all time right behind symbolic - death

I waited the entire song to hear Phil labonte I mean no hate but that was a cheap trick guys I realize it said special appearance but musically that means a feature I don’t think that’s the best approach to get your views up is to troll ATR fans lol

proggy death . metal!?
who wrote velocity solo? he's a fucking genius
i think christian munzner
Florian Maier from Dark Fortress/Alkaloid wrote that solo my guy. First Alkaloid has a hint of that stuff as well and Florian discusses its use during interview of them writing behind the scenes. He stated technically its not physically playable (at least the really fast parts with the harmonics) but he wanted to add it from a compositional standpoint.
Technical Death Metal from Germany!!!! ./,,/
no death core scum
Learn how to enjoy a good band, no matter what genre is. A lot of your "deathcore scum" is better than some shitty death metal band.
This isn't a valid argument, Metal scene sucks because of toughts like this one. This is the difference between being a good musican or a bad metalhead.
Kunal Gairola suicide silence is better than at the gates
@Kunal Gairola But there is no such thing like a "shitty death metal band" am I right :D
