  • Not ready to jump in the saddle just yet? Teaching your horse to pony is a great skill you can use to expose him to different environments.

I don't know if you will answer this as this video was long ago, but here's my question. I ride in an English saddle, more specifically a Dressage, although I don't think that matters. Do I need to get my western saddle back in shape? Can I use an Aussie saddle? Is there a way to do it safely in an english saddle? The horse I am going to be ponying is very strong, and quite spooky. He's a super good boy and does actually know his ground manners as anyone can lead him, but he gets distracted easy. Working on helping him think without reacting first. My main mare is pretty stable. Not bomb proof by any means, but will deal with loud, large, and pretty fast objects without a problem. Can trot over tarps and everything. Even walks on plastic things found in the pasture without flinching. Her spooks are very small.

Amber Blyledge well you can get it done with out a horn, just make sure you lead rope is not to long, fold any length and not coil around.
And beware riding your mare, they have have Tendency kick out

@@cwtraining Thanks, I'll probably start tomorrow and see if I can even get on with them close to each other. One step at a time!
