    Do you have to burn the end of the magnet wire for it to work?

    • @mrnac5
      @mrnac5 Před 5 lety +2

      Indy IFA the wire you have to use is coated kinda like a regular wire with rubber/plastic on it, but instead of rubber/plastic it’s coated with a very thin layer of non conductive material, so when he burns the ends he’s taking off that coating so it’s conductive and he can make a connection.

    Could I just cut the 3.5mm jack from broken headphones and connect it to the copper wire, then plug it into my phone?

    • @OverEngineered
      @OverEngineered  Před 7 lety +9

      The only reason that would not work well, if at all, is because the signal coming out of a phone is fairly weak. You need a strong signal for a crude speaker like this to produce sound. That is why I used a powerful stereo system amplifier.

    • @ozapenguin
      @ozapenguin Před 7 lety +4

      Would you need a less stronger signal if you used more coils or a bigger magnet?

    • @OverEngineered
      @OverEngineered  Před 7 lety +8

      A stronger magnet might help some. But, the best thing to do if you have a weak signal is make the speaker very small. For example, the 3.5mm jack from a phone is made for powering headphones which are small speakers. You need to amplify the signal from a phone if you want to use speakers bigger than headphones.

      i was wondering the same "can you use more magnets?"
      as far as i have seen its all ok if they are stacked on top of each other and if they are of course the same size
      as for the thickness of wire i think its 0.2mm (idk what gauge is that)
      i have seen 10 inch speakers using same 0.2mm wire, so i guess every speaker pretty much uses same vires, but you should watch out how much ohms does your speaker have before putting it into an amp. You should probably look towards 4ohms as most amps support it. But i couldn't find how can you calculate how much ohms will the vires have
      I hope i helped you
