- Check out my story on the WACR M&B in the August 2024 RailPace Newsmagazine!
It's April 2024 and the Washington County Railroad's M&B division, or the "Little WACR" has already begun their work for the season, taking heavy loads of granite from the loading site in Websterville down to the interchange at Montpelier Junction, a treacherous path that includes a switchback and grades reaching 9%, as well as some tricky urban (by Vermont standards) running in Barre and Montpelier. The star of this video is Green Mountain Railroad 804, a GP9 that's often assigned to the M&B.
Also seen is New England Central 500 running a passenger extra from Burlington to Montpelier for a state assemblyman's luncheon. I caught the move at Waterbury with NECR 3038's INSANE RS5T doppler and VTR 307 along for the ride.
Check out @mattygunn693 for similar content from WNY, including this video which features the same Barre granite being delivered:

Worked that line before. Hated it. Sketchy track, sketchy grade, and people never stopped at the crossings. Lol
This earned you a subscriber, I love small operations like this!!!
@@AppalachianRailfan99 They’re my absolute favorite to film! Thanks!
Me as well!
I watch those engines every day we work in the brown building at Forbins!
I watch those trains every day we work in the brown building at Forbins in Barre!
Rough set of tracks, but that rock rolls by morning and night on them. The tracks from Barre up to the quarry close once snowfalls, but the engines live in that lot all winter and still roll every day
Love seeing shortlines! Thanks for sharing!
Very nice.
Wow that climb!

Great video! Nice chase. Was watching Jason Asselin when CZcams AI put me onto you. Subscribed! Want to see more.
Great catches awesome chase and nice video
I’d love to learn more about these operations up in Vermont! Great video!
Great video! Interesting to see all those new CSX gons heading back up the hill.
@@danmartin8414 Definitely more new ones than there were last year
Just so you know, the crossing you show as Barre Montpelier road in Barre is the town of Berlin. Also Berlin is where Montpelier Jct. is actually located. I grew up in Berlin.
Fantastic sunrise
Very nice!🚂🚂 GP's working hard!
Minute mark 12:00 is where they stored the units when the rains and high water came earlier this summer I believe.
Absolutely solid video man
Great show Harrison! And talk about serendipity, a day before you posted this I recieved my latest action-packed issue of "Railpace" and look who made the cover! AND with a four-page equally enjoyable article on the Granite Railroad! Well done!
I'll tell you, you're doing so well with "Railpace" it wouldn't surprise me if you're running the mag ten years from now! 🤩
Think I'm joking? Let's wait and see...
@@wayneantoniazzi2706 thanks Wayne, I’m eyeing R&R next…
@@NorthCountryTrains Good choice! Railfan & Railroad is another powerhouse White River product I subscribe to. The gent who owns White River, Kevin EuDaly understands the railfan mag business and it shows.
We love switchbacks

Your channel is the best in class
Narrator: "8.9% grade, there is nothing like it anywhere in North America"
Cass Scenic: "Hold my coffee"*
*:(close to 12%)
Okay, not on a regular, freight-carrying Class 3 road. The Madison incline in Indiana at 5.89% was considered the steepest grade on a line-haul railroad in the USA but although the Madison RR still operates, it hasn't gone down the incline in ages now. Guess Washington County has the title now.
@@NickBurman Cass is incredible, but geared locomotives and passenger cars just isn’t the same as geeps and heavy rock
Too bad the rivet counters spoil it with silly comments
Good morning
Pan Am would have needed a locomotive per empty car to do this 31:37 😂😅😂
Any activity in the Newport area?
@@himat The “big” WACR runs there and interchanges with CP!
Railroads & Porta Potties- like peanut butter & jelly

looks like they need a lot of track work

@ 5:50 that track doesn't look safe at all.
@@ferdinandfrancis9673 The track isn’t mainline standard, but it’s perfectly fine at the speed they operate
Excellent video my friends awesome like and Greeting from Argentina nuevo subcritor suscribete 👍🏻 😊
5-mins in and I am already disappointed because the entire consist of gondola's & hopper cars are never shown and I can't tell how many cars the 2 Geep's are hauling. Missing out on the entire train being pushed up the switchback was a big disappointment too. I stopped watching after that. 👎👎
You take some great shots at excellent locations but why cant you show us the full length of the trains.??
@@jimfuller113 I do try to show the entire train at least once… however, when doing a slow and short chase line this, I can’t show the entire train and still beat it to the next spot. When I’m chasing on the mainline, however, I try to show the entire train at least once. On the M&B all you’re missing is gondolas.
