    I get that when I'm commuting except it's both to and from work/school...Actually, I get it all day every day really. Every lecture the whole lecture I can barely breathe and no one is even looking at me. This has been my whole life and I tried beta blockers for the first time 2 days ago and omg they work. Yes, there is a large placebo effect but that's because I'm not getting the random adrenaline rushes to begin with. No caffeine definitely had an effect but I learned after being caffeine free that sadly that wasn't causing it. Being able to walk down the street for the first time 2 days ago and commute on the bus to school without feeling like a lion's about to jump out and kill me was even more amazing than I thought it would be. After feeling normal I can't believe I've lived my whole life like that. I'm able to talk to people and look them in the eyes. Also I spoke in lecture for the first time 2 days ago with the beta blocker and didn't have a panic attack it was the weirdest thing. I never thought I'd ever be able to speak like that.

    It's so sad to hear what you've been through, and particularly your not wanting people to look at you when you are clearly a very beautiful girl that people would naturally want to look your way. I suffered terrible PTSD after an injury when I was serving in the Royal Marines and it took a lot of time, support from friends and Seroxat (investigate before trying that drug - it has a very high suicide rate in the USA). Now, years later I am starting to struggle (I now work in the NHS so it's a different kind of stress compared to the military!). My GP has just prescribed Propranolol so I hope it takes things down and gets me through the day. I wish you all the best - I know this is an old video so hopefully you are in a much better place in your life now x

    Thank you for this video. I have the same exact feeling about people looking at me. I have developed really bad social anxiety that it’s hard for me to talk to people. When I am talk to someone I get internal tremors because I get so anxious and nervous I don’t know why? It’s been so bad that I can’t leave my house. I’ve tried about 8 different anxiety meds and they always make me feel worse/weird. My doctor today prescribed me propranolol and I did not go to the pharmacy to pick it up. I think I’m just nervous or scared to try it but after watching your video I’ve decided ok I’m picking it up tomorrow. Now I’m worried about what if it does save me from my mental health and then my doctor takes it away? Thank you again for this video! Loved it!

    • @sherbetstraw
      @sherbetstraw  Před 3 lety

      Deborah thanks for commenting. Anxiety is a wee turd! Just try propanolol and see what happens. You sound more sensible and mature than me and I’m sure you can have a chat with your doctor about using it longer term if you find it helps. I was young in this video and felt unable to voice my needs!
      Since this video I’ve come to the conclusion that my anxiety stemmed from being perfectionist at work and racing around trying to get things done in record time (which then got my heart rate and adrenaline up and sort of initiated the fight/ flight response) accompanied by an unhealthy thought life. I only realised a few years ago that you can agree or disagree with thoughts that come into your head, and that disagreeing with negative thoughts towards yourself is powerful. Finally I restored my faith in (and relationship with) God which has helped me more than I can ever tell you. All the best to you and a massive hug xxx

    Hey! Thanks for sharing. I'm looking into taking beta blockers, specifically propranolol, for anxiety symptoms, but I've heard it can make you tired or cause weight gain.. And along with those, exercise is affected by making you tire more easily. I know you said you didn't really have any side effects, so you didn't experience any of these? I just don't know if it'll be worth it if I were to have these side effects.

    • @sherbetstraw
      @sherbetstraw  Před 5 lety +1

      Hey so sorry for late reply (took me a year LOL!). They can apparently lessen your exercise tolerance (due to the fact they stop your heart from being able to beat as fast) but I've not really had any issues with that except when I first started them and I just felt a bit more tired than normal when I played tennis. It leveled out though. Would definitely recommend trying them.

  • @HellterSkelter
    @HellterSkelter Před 8 lety +2

    Hi, thanks for the vid - really helpful. I was given beta blockers by my GP about a year ago but he gave me the lowest dosage of 5mg which didn't do much for me, though I've heard how big you are (petite or larger build) can affect a drugs effectiveness. Just curious what dosage your GP gave you and if he/she recommended how often to take them?
    Also, if it's not too personal - How did you find counselling? My GP suggested it to me a while ago but I didn't have the cojones to go through with it (I have social anxiety).
    Thanks! The positive message at the end of the vid was cool too, put a smile on my face :)

    • @sherbetstraw
      @sherbetstraw  Před 8 lety +2

      +Scouski
      Hey! Thanks for your message!
      Yeah I just looked at my prescription and I was on 80mg modified release 1 a day. I definitely agree that a dose of medication can have different effects on different people but i don't think it's all to do with the size if the person. My sister is roughly the same height and dress size as me but any time she takes medication, drinks alcohol, has anaesthetic at the hospital or even one of my sleeping pills she finds it has far less effect on her and often needs to ask for the dose to be upped. Basically i think the concept of being a "lightweight" when it comes to alcohol can apply to prescription drugs as well. 5mg sounds like a really low dose so maybe you should try to up it to 20-40mg if your doctor will let you. I think the reason i got 80mg is because my doctor thought it would be for short term use.. i don't think 80mg is a long term sort of dose. Could be wrong though.
      Counselling can be extremely helpful for some people but it's quite tough as well. I tend to keep things to myself so when I do share stuff with a councillor i find it really scary, draining and a bit uncomfortable. But when you voice something out loud that you haven't shared with anyone before, THAT is when you can start to sort out the problem. It's easy to push your problems to the back of your mind and counselling is good for making sure you bring those issues to the surface and work through them! I'd say that you may need to try a few counsellors to find one that you are really comfortable with though.. i know that I changed around a few times and thats completely normal and ok. If you have any other questions fire away!
      Good luck with everything and i'm glad i got a smile out of you in my vid!
      X

      @@sherbetstraw I have been doing homeopathic supplements and natural supplements and I have cut caffeine out for years and they do help but I still have bouts off crippling anxiety from time to time, but I have a very high stress job that I own and I have had some traumatic events happen over the years and so this is the main cause but back in 2013 I had surgery and was put on percocet for pain and I got addicted to that drug and I knew I needed to come off of it but when trying the withdrawals were brutal with very high anxiety and so it was then when I was put on valium and I took them daily for 4 months and it simply turned absolutely evil on me my anxiety went from level 10 to level 30 and had respiratory depression and my BP was 200/120 and was in hospital for nearly 3 weeks but even after that I continued to withdrawal from valium and percocet for the next 1.5 years and then eventually it got better but now anytime that there is a stressful time or a traumatic event the first place my anxiety starts is in my lungs cause of valium that I took 8 years ago and have been clean of benzos for 8 years but when my anxiety gets going in my lungs its crippling and sometimes it's an ER visit for oxygen and my drs. Know my situation so they know the routine, and so in my honest opinion benzodiazepines will destroy your life mentally and physically and even when being off of them for years I believe this damage is permanent they are simply satan's drug.
