I remember these engines from back in the 1970's until the mid 1990s. They used them to run between Ronse and Oudenaarde. We always watched them in louise-marie. They are the reason I feel in love with trains. Every summer I would go to visit my family in Ronse and there was a tunnel right near the house and you could hear them climbing out of Ronse. We must have ran 1000 down the hill and to the louise-marie station watch them go into the tunnel.
Nope. The line to Ronse had Class 62s not Class 55s. They look similar, but the 62s are smaller and have four axles not six like the 55s. They also have a smaller engine with less horsepower. 1,250 instead of 1,800.

Jammer dat den mooie oude tijd met de diesellocs stillaan gedaan is. De toekomst is aan de electrische traktie en stelletjes en moterwagens. Maar fantastisch dat we ze nu nog kunnen zien. Leuke video
Der Sound der Maschine kann sich messen mit der guten alten Ludmilla allias BR 231 BR 232 altbelüftet ( Russen Diesel ) einsatz in der ehemaligen DDR. Ebenso kann sich der Sound mit der Taigatrommel ( Russen Diesel )und der BR 216 218 und der V300 aus Deutschland messen. Daumen hoch. Die Class 66 ist ebenfalls nicht von schlechten Eltern. Aber der Sound der EMD hat was gewisses für sich und das liebe ich. Daumen hoch.
@GerardHLD55 Bedankt Gerard, het was een magisch moment! En zeker toen die instructeur van NK voorstelde om zelf de machine te bedienen, jij hebt ook goede ervaringen met de mensen van Kinkempois :-)
@noggin48 For now, Infrabel is using this type 55 locos for track maintenance, carrying al sorts of big and smaller tools. But on occasions like at Kinkempois, we as big fans can still enjoy the sound and hear the engine scream. I also was in luck that I ran into an instructor outside the 5517, I asked him if it was possible to make some noise (hitting the throttle :p) and it was no problem, he even said that I could do it! So I did and it was magical, controlling the thoughts of such a beast!
Ik weet niet of je het weet maar toen je het geluid opnam en toen je in de machine kamer stond van de 5517 zat ik aan de hendels te spelen. Ik eigenlijk heel de dag in dat machine en ik zal het niet vergeten dus als je het bekijkt vanaf 2:36 hoor je mij eigenlijk bezig
Heerlijk! Ik mag aannemen dat je wel gehoorbescherming op had toen je in de machinekamer stond ;-) Machinekamer van de loc ziet er zeker nog goed uit van binnen moet ik zeggen, jammer dat de locs nauwelijks nog worden ingezet.

Je had geluk, de ventilator draaide een aantal keren mee! Dan heeft de 55 toch wel het mooiste geluid.
