I think they always loved each other. They had great chemistry, I think they had a bond that was never broken. She was devastated by his death and did his eulogy. I think they were soul mates.
Is it weird that I like the divorced shows more ? Cher is more relaxed and open, laughs more, feels like she is free to do and say what she wants.
I consider it a new season / or a spinoff

I think the reason their show failed in the ratings after their divorce was because the audience felt it was fake because they were not really a couple anymore.

You can truly see they had fun! Here in 1977 after they each had their solo shows..( CHER'S was the better of the two!)...He adored her and like most older Italian men do (11 years Sonny was her Sr.) try to control everything! He knew he fucked it up and should have let here be the ICON she is! I loved her as a 14 year old here in 77' and still do at 54 today! God bless' Sonny too, check out David Lettermen show with them both on in 1987'...Sonny was very emotional and Cher held him "up" that night! They were great in the 70's! HOF Team! Sad ending..*
Mark Sonny definitely had charisma and a great sense of humor. Cher was gorgeous, all woman. Women today should see what a true knockout is all about. You don’t need a 38 DDD pair of breasts. Also, she had a great sense of humor and boy can she sing. They don’t make shows like this anymore and that’s a shame.
I don't think it was strange to see them teasing one another after the divorce. In fact they seemed way more relaxed than the pre divorce show, especially when you see the their stuff from around 1973 - they weren't smiling as much as they used to. After the divorce they seemed to be having fun again just like the old days.

I was watching a video where Sonny mix business and pleasure together and you should never do that never that a no no that partly why they fall apart cause Sonny was Cher manager agent mentor and friend all in one when his should of just be her husband and let someone else manager them

Fascinating. Thank you for posting! The dialog for those of us who remember way back when, is pithy (concise and forcefully expressive) and genuinely humorous. Alas, it goes on too long. This was their attempt at reuniting after each having a failed solo show. Sonny's show was abysmal but Cher's show was not so bad. Still the viewing audience was intolerant of the fact they were divorced and despite their obvious chemistry together forbade them to enjoy any sort of success thereafter. Probably a good thing as Cher would not have become what she has and Sonny would not have taken his enormous talent in a whole different direction. The man was indeed gifted, just not as a singer.

She wasn't pregnant.. this tape is from March 1977 (she and Sonny were already divorced ) By this time she was married to Gregg Allman and dealing with Allman's drug addiction; Her son with Allman was born in 1976.. not 1977.

They are divorced here yet they are more rela exed then ever.
Maybe since the pressure is off they are not hung up with tension.

Cher is beautiful but Sonny is a smart business man and the reason she got her foot in the door in show biz...she never quite got over him...Cher has a big ego.
Sonny’s solo show failed in like 13 weeks. Chers show had 2 seasons and she only agreed to do a show with Sonny again is because Sonny won a court case against her for some concerts that she gave for which he had negotiated the deal prior to the divorce. I believe it was about 2 million dollars. She agreed to reunite with him so he could be on tv again instead of paying the settlement…

Teach him how to sing, Cher, or at least go to rehearsal, sheesh! Sonny is dragging the words, kicking and screaming, to the music...the best segments of the latter 'Sonny & Cher Show' were the Flashback segments they did, as they sang "Just You" and "Baby Don't Go" in there old bobcat vests and bell bottoms....talking about that time. That reminded viewers of their real connection, and it was where you could witness the chemistry, mutual love, and respect, between them. Anybody have those?
Post divorce...whew, a tad uncomfortable. None the less, they were fun to watch. Her more than him.

That's why it ended, people couldn't stand seeing them be mean to each other even if it was playful. It was just too sad. It was funny when they were together but after it just seemed sad and strained.

I think the show was pretty much over at this point on two counts. 1- It had already been on a while and ran its course. 2- Its almost hard to believe the network went on with it after the divorce, that topic in itself was still more than a little racy for network tv at that time........and to have a real life married / divorced couple on air supposedly being polite and joking about it, wasnt really entertaining.
waynemegaman the lovely entertainment it was when they were married and quipping then making up with each other in a sense by continuing to sing each episode does NOT have the same effect when they are digging at each other as divorced. All the same timing and humor is there but now being divorced it comes off meaner, how could it not? Just a thought, still always loved them!
